Prologue

            It's the bottom of the sixth inning, Callie Jacobs and the Kal Central Tigers were up three to two. The quietness of the crowd comforts Callie as she steps on the mound. The count three balls and two strikes with bases loaded. The next pitch could mean a bittersweet victory and the National Title or it could be a horrific loss in Callie's softball career. Callie takes a deep breath, nodding her head at the catcher's third call – a knuckleball. Callie's lethal pitch. She grips the ball in her sweating hand, winding her pitch and fires the softball towards the catcher's mitt.
