"You've got astronomy tonight, right?" Eloise asked Caroline at the dining table.
Tyler kept glancing at the blonde with this sort of coldness that made Archie keep looking over at him curiously. What had he got against Eloise all of a sudden? He'd be sure to ask him after dinner.
"Mm," Caroline nodded as she took a big gulp of water.
"Make sure you're quiet when you get back, because-"
"I know, I wake you up...I'll try not to this time," Caroline said.
"Please Carrie, I need my beauty sleep," Eloise half-joked, smiling lightly at her friend.
Tyler's frown deepened. He had no proof that anything was happening, therefore he couldn't technically be mad at Eloise yet...innocent until proven guilty and all that...but something just felt wrong, and he didn't need any proof for that. He was gonna be suspicious and nothing could stop him there.
"Bro, you okay?" Archie muttered, "You look ready to kill someone."
"I'm fine," Tyler muttered back, before forking some chicken into his mouth, a bit too aggressively.
Caroline caught Julian's eye at the Gryffindor table, and the boy winked back at her. She felt her heart skip a beat looking at him, those brown eyes. She felt safe with him.
"God I'm so glad I stopped astronomy," Jane said, "can't be dealing with a class at midnight, like what's up with that?"
"Pretty sure night time is the best time to see the stars, J," Archie said, grinning teasingly.
She nudged him, "well yeah, I know that but-"
"What, would you prefer to look at the constellations over lunch?" Caroline asked innocently, causing Archie to snort.
"Shut up, Caroline," Jane said, rolling her eyes but biting back a grin.
After dinner Caroline went back to the Ravenclaw common room with Eloise, wanting to fit in some good studying before she had to leave for Astronomy. The others walked to their own common rooms, but before Tyler could part from Jane and Archie to go to the Hufflepuff common room, Archie held onto his arm and pulled him into an empty corridor. Jane, unaware of what was going on, decided to follow just in case what happened was actually interesting.
"Seriously, Arch?" Tyler groaned as Archie made no move to let go of him, "Jesus, how are you so strong..."
Archie loosened his grip on the boy's bicep after he had stopped trying to move away, before letting go and stepping back, folding his arms, "tell me what's going on."
"Also tell me," Jane raised a hand, "I have no clue what's happening."
"I don't know what you're talking about," Tyler said.
"You looked like you were going to hit Eloise literally all through dinner."
Jane nodded, "oh yeah, I noticed that too...what was up with that?"
"It's really nothing, it's..." Tyler sighed and looked at the floor, "nothing, it's stupid..."
"Mate, I've never seen you look at anyone like that before," Archie said softly, before putting a hand on his shoulder, "you can tell us, whatever it is."
"I..." he looked between the two, "it's nothing concrete, I just have...suspicions..."
"Ohh, yeah, Julian and Eloise right?" Jane asked.
"What?!" Archie's head snapped over to her.
"You knew?"
"I've just had my suspicions for a while, but that's all they've been," she sighed, rubbing the back of her neck. "I've wanted to talk to Carrie about it but what if it's wrong, you know?"
"It'd kill her," Tyler said.
"Son of a bitch," Archie said, shaking his head, "no...Eloise would never do that to Carrie...they're like sisters..."
"I know, I don't want it to be true..."
"Why are you even suspicious? What reason have they given you?" Archie asked.
"Well, I, uh...it was the end of the summer holidays, and El kept bailing on me because she said she was with a guy, and then remember Carrie was saying Julian hadn't talked to her properly for weeks at the end of the holiday? Hadn't answered her letters?" Jane asked.
"I remember that," Tyler said.
"That could just be a coincidence..."
"If so then there have been about a hundred other coincidences like that, which isn't likely..." Jane said.
"What's it they say? One's something, two's a coincidence, three's a pattern," Tyler said.
"And a pattern that...that tells us that Julian's cheating with Eloise?" Archie shook his head in disbelief.
"You don't have to believe it," Jane said, "but next time you're with either one of them, pay attention, like really pay attention. You'll notice it then."
"God, I hope I don't."

"Have you ever heard of Neil Diamond?"
"Yes," Caroline murmured as she looked through the telescope once more before adding another note to her diagram.
"Have you heard his songs?"
"Yes..."
Sirius looked at her then, grinning, "have you heard your song?"
"My song?"
"You know...Sweet Caroline..."
"Oh yeah," Caroline said unenthusiastically.
"Oh come on, it's a song with your name! Don't you like it?"
"It's alright I guess, my cousin just always sings it when he sees me and I guess it's just gotten annoying."
"Come on, it's such a good song, you know...Sweeet Caroline," he sang quietly.
"Please don't."
"Good times never seemed so good," he carried on singing, leaning in a bit closer to her.
She couldn't help but laugh at his face, so sang a bit under her breath, it was a mere whisper, a murmur, "I've been inclined..."
"Yes!" He said loudly, causing a few of the other students to shush him, so he said in a more hushed voice, "yes."
"How do you know Neil Diamond? You're a pureblood," she said to him.
"A pureblood who hates his asshole family so always made an effort to invest himself in muggle culture."
"Huh..." she raised an impressed eyebrow at him before turning back to his diagram.
"What's your favourite muggle band?" He asked her in French.
"Why are we speaking in French now?"She asked, also in French.
"I like it, it's like our own secret language..."
"What are you, five?"
"Oh shush," he waved her away, "let me have my moment."
She sighed, "Fine, we can speak French."
"You didn't answer my question, tell me your favourite band."
"That wasn't a question," she said absently, re-focusing the lens of her telescope.
"You're very annoying, you know that?"
"Oui."
"So..." he looked at her.
"You'll call me basic," she said in English.
"It's not the Beatles, is it?" He groaned.
"And what if it is?"
"Then I'll call you basic."
"Well..."
"Well what?" He asked, looking at her daringly, an amused smile tugging at the ends of his lips.
"Well...I'm older than you," she said childishly.
"Wow," he laughed, "not by much. My birthday was last week, you know?"
"I know, everyone knows, your friends are very loud."
"Yeah, they are," he agreed, smiling fondly just thinking of his obnoxious mates.
"You know, it makes sense that you're a scorpio," she said.
He got out another bit of parchment from his bag after finishing his previous roll and nodded, "yeah...I know...makes sense you're a virgo, too. You're like, textbook virgo."
She scoffed, "I am not. How do you even know I'm a virgo?"
"Your birthday was mid-September, wasn't it?"
"I...yeah, the fifteenth," she nodded, a bit taken aback.
He raised a knowing eyebrow at her before turning back to his work and continuing his work. She watched him write for a few moments. He was beautiful when he was focused.
She blinked. That was odd. She didn't think of him like that. Snap out of it, Carrie. You have a boyfriend, and besides you are definitely not going to be another silly girl charmed by someone like Sirius. You're better than that. Now stop looking at him, and go back to your work.
But oh, how incredibly difficult it was to not look at him.
