This is a poem to pay my respects to George Flyod.
If u don't know, George was a normal guy. But his neck was leaned on for a straight 8 minutes before he eventually died.
This for me is bullsh*t and scary because if u saw my face reveal before I deleted it you will know that I'm black. Afro Caribbean to be exact. But I have African American family who have suffered similarly and I'm sick of this sh*t
U don't have to read this
Okay here it is:
So here we are, once again back in the loophole of time
Pointing finger in the opposite direction of where the problem is
Distracting us from the real culprit
Our labels, they must define us all.
I am what my label says I am
I must learn to stay put
To stay far from the glorified
To "hang in there"
Do you remember them?
Our grandmother's grandmothers
Working hard just to stay alive
The children were supposed to be kept safe
But then in the paper we hear a child was whipped and starved to death.
But the prosecutor was the one on trial
The judge put the hammer down as innocent
And there we have a story of lies
Killer, dealer, hater, traitor
Gunned down, pinned down
Held down, held back
I wonder, what they would say now.
The people who died for a better future.
Those who risked it all.
The man who saw the mountaintop
He saw its beauty and went to tell the world
But he didn't live to witness it up close cos he was shot for being "Negro"
Now here we are
Our protectors instilling fear into us
They were so scared of a teen in a hoodie
So petrified
He might have been carrying anything
A gun, a knife, a history
The heart of a mother, the soul of a father the weight of being who he was.
Now here I am.
I am not my label.
You can pull my hair, you can call me names
Spit on me
Laugh at me
Its only a joke
But I am who I say I am
A normal human being
And a descendant of slaves
"Heaven couldn't wait for you, so go on, go home"
