Lake Day
"Alright maggots" Shadis exclaims, "Since graduation is so close I will give you guys a day off! Don't come bothering me, especially you (L/n)."
The said girl shyly waves at him, faking innocence, and he lets out an annoyed grunt. Her friends began discussing what they were going to do with their free time when Reiner wraps his arm around (Y/n) with a grin.
"How about we go out to the lake?" Reiner suggests, making everyone's face light up.
"That's a good idea, let's meet up at the edge of the forest in an hour," Krista says and pulls (Y/n) away from Reiner. They all part ways to get their stuff to go on the small excursion. (Y/n) packs up a towel, an extra set of pants and shirt, and some bandages. (C/n) meows and jumps into the bag.
"Good girl" (Y/n) whispers and pats the feline's head. She brings the bags up to her shoulder and heads out of the cabin. She reaches the edge of the forest, Reiner, Bertholdt, and Annie were talking closely. That's weird, they never talk to each other, she thinks to herself. She quietly gets closer to them and she hears them say something about Trost and wall, but couldn't make out anything else.
"Hey, what's up guys? What are you guys talking about?" (Y/n) asks, making her presence known. They all look startled at her sudden appearance. That's definitely suspicious, she thinks to herself. Reiner walks over to her and drapes his large arm around her shoulders.
"Nothing, princess" Reiner nonchalantly says with a shrug, "We're just talking about the fish we're going to catch."
(Y/n) raises her eyebrow at them. Her demon senses were telling her that something was wrong. That something was going to happen. She wanted to ask questions, however, one look at Annie's face told her not to. The blonde's eyes were wide, her lips parted slightly, and her eyes kept moving between Reiner and Bertholdt. It was their secret sign to shut up.
"Bet I can catch the biggest fish," (Y/n) finally says and sways on her feet, her hands wrapping around the straps of the bag. The rest of their friends appeared.
"Reiner! Get your hands off her!" Jean screams, snatching the man's arm away from the girl. Jean then grabs her hand and leads her into the forest with everyone following behind. (Y/n) wanted to take her hand away from his hand, but his hand was shaking nervously and the blush on his cheeks made her heart soften.
"You're so cute" (Y/n) teases and the male turns back at her.
"I'm not cute," he shyly stutters. Connie comes out from behind them and pokes Jean on the cheek with a smirk on his face.
"He's blushing like a little kid cause he's holding hands with (Y/n)" Connie loudly says so everyone could tease the two-toned hair boy.
"Don't get too comfortable with (Y/n), she's my wife!" Ymir screams from behind them earning a laugh from everyone.
"You have Krista!" Jean screams back.
"But I want both" Ymir complains, her arm coming down onto Krista's head and ruffling her hair.
"You're so greedy" Jean retorts, bringing up his hand that was holding onto (Y/n)'s hand, "She's my wife now."
At the comment, Eren and Reiner run up to him, their fists up in the air. They began shouting about how he shouldn't make comments that aren't true and to keep his greedy hands off of (Y/n). All she did was watch from the side, laughing at their weirdness. Today is going to be fun, she thinks and looks back at Annie who was walking by herself. She took pity on her friend so she lets go of Jean's hand and slows down to walk into step with Annie.
The blonde looks up at her friend who was smiling down at her. (Y/n) holds her hand out for Annie and the blonde happily holds onto her hand. It was a small act of intimacy that they shared to comfort each other.
"Wanna go swimming with me once we get to the lake?" (Y/n) asks.
"I don't want to get my clothes wet" Annie replies and shrugs her shoulders.
"That's fine" (Y/n) says and they continue walking through the forest, hand in hand. It was unknown to them that Armin had his eyes on their hands. He was simply, downright jealous. He didn't know who he wanted to be more, Annie or (Y/n).
A beautiful lake was shinning before them, it seemed to stretch for miles. They place their stuff down on the rocky ground that led directly into the lake. Sasha and Connie took off their boots and socks quickly and ran to the lake. However, when they step into the lake, they scream and run out.
"It's freezing!" Sasha screams, running back to the group who was still setting down their stuff. They laugh at how stupid the two look.
"Is it? Let me check" (Y/n) says and takes off her shoes and socks. She moves to the lake, placing her feet into the water, "You guys are so dramatic. It's not even that cold."
"What are you talking about? That's clearly freezing" Connie cries out, his finger pointing at the lake.
"You're such a chicken, I'm getting in" (Y/n) states moving back to the group. She unbuttons her pants and slides down to take them off. All the guys quickly cover their eyes, blushing at her sudden action.
"What are you doing?" Eren screams, his face as red as a tomato.
"Oh chill out," (Y/n) replies, "You guys can look, it's not like I'm naked."
They move their hands away from their eyes and notice that (Y/n) was still wearing her black turtle neck. She also wore elastic shorts that were very similar to male trunks, in fact, they were trunks that she had altered to fit her figure.
She gave a salute and turns around, sprinting towards the lake. She dives into the freezing water, her skin tightening at the sudden temperature loss. She reaches the bottom, taps it and swims back up. She waves at her friends who were all staring at her.
"Join me if you guys aren't losers" (Y/n) shouts and splashes the water.
Reiner took this as a challenge so he strips down to his boxers and runs into the lake. He swims towards where (Y/n) was supposed to be, but she was nowhere to be found. A figure suddenly jumps up from the water and pushes his head down into the water. Reiner easily moves away from the hand, his hazel eyes spotting the familiar girl.
"You almost got me, princess" Reiner flirts, winking at her.
"I went easy on you" (Y/n) playfully says, sticking her nose up into the air with a smirk.
"This water is so fucking cold" a voice speaks up. Eren's lips were trembling from the low temperature of the lake, his face pale, "How are you guys handling this?"
"Because I'm a man" Reiner states, raising his hand up to shows his muscles.
(Y/n) rolls her eyes, smiling towards Eren, "I used to go with my brother down to the lake outside of Stohess. It was always freezing so I'm used to the cold. If it's too cold for you then you should go warm yourself up. You could get hypothermia."
"I'm not a little kid, I'm a man" Eren replies, copying Reiner's pose, but his muscles were a lot less impressive. (Y/n) rolls her eyes at them again, letting out a snort at how stupid they looked. She swings her arms backwards, swimming away from them and moving towards the deeper end of the lake.
"(Y/n), you shouldn't go so far in" Reiner scolds.
"I'll be fine" (Y/n) says and continues moving towards the deep end. She smirks at him, this should be fun.
The (h/c) haired girl sinks down like if something had pulled her. Everyone starts screaming and she swims back up to reveal that she was fine. She was laughing at their worried faces, "I fooled you guys."
"Shut up," Eren screams at her, "Don't scare us like that."
"Yes, sir" (Y/n) mockingly salutes, that same devious smirk on her face. She was floating on the still water, gazing up at the blue sky. Her demon senses went off when something or someone swims under her. She stops floating, looking down into the water to see what in the world had activated her sense.
In a flash, her body was being dragged down towards the bottom of the lake. (Y/n) opens her eyes, shining yellow eyes met hers. She starts wiggling her leg, kicking at the hand wrapped around her leg. Whatever the creature was, it was adamant on drowning her.
(Y/n) felt her lungs run out of air, her movements becoming slower as a result. Fuck, am I really going to die like this? she thinks still trying to make the creature get its hand off her leg. Strong arms wrap around her figure, pulling her body up towards the surface before she could drown.
The person that had grabbed onto her figure was carrying her bridal style out of the lake. She lets out a cough, trying to get air back into her lungs. She looks up and sees Reiner holding her, his face expressing how scared he was.
"I told you not to go to the deep end, princess" Reiner lectures her as he walks out of the lake with her in his arms.
"Yeah, yeah" (Y/n) mumbles with a blush on her cheeks, "Thank you."
"Holy shit, you could have died!" Eren shouts, running out of the lake towards his friend, "You have got to stop doing that."
"I'm fine" (Y/n) replies, "My leg just cramped up."
"Your right eyebrow twitched" Eren points out and she curses at him. For someone who is so slow, he sure knows how to pay attention to when I'm lying, she thinks.
Reiner places (Y/n) down onto the rocks and Krista wraps a towel around her. Once the towel was safely wrapped around her, Krista raises her small hand and hits (Y/n) on the back of the head, "You idiot, stop scaring us."
"You don't have to hit me" (Y/n) cries out and moves her hands to hold her head.
"You're right, I have to hit you more times" Krista scolds and starts slapping the girl's back. How cute, she thinks that actually could hurt me, (Y/n) thinks with a smile on her face, it's like she's tickling me.
"Krista, that's enough," a stoic voice says, "She's learned her lesson."
They peer up at Annie who was standing with her arms crossed over her chest, a bored look on her face. Krista lets out a sigh, this time she wraps her arms around the girl. It was a silent apology for hitting her, but (Y/n) knew that Krista really did mean to hit her.
"Come on, let's start a fire so you guys can warm up" Krista says and moves to where the rest of the group was. They were already stacking up firewood for the fire. Annie sticks out her hand to help (Y/n) stand up. She accepts it and gets off the ground.
"You really did scare everyone" Annie whispers so only her friend could hear.
"It wasn't my intentions, I think a fish grabbed me or something" (Y/n) whispers back. It wasn't a fish though, it was a demon and I have a feeling that won't be my last encounter with it, she thinks. (Y/n) sits down on a log that was close to the growing fire.
The orange flame flickers, reminding her of how a similar fire had burned away her home. She had spent so much time in the brothel that it felt like her home, where she could be true to herself and to others. She's been lying for the past three years, especially to Eren who was already catching on to her lies.
She and Eren had gotten into several arguments over the three years about how much she lied to him and that she needed to tell him the truth about everything. And when she was ready to tell him, memories of the brothel burning would come to her. (Y/n) didn't want her friends to share the same fate that Madame Ava and Fredrik had.
Madame Ava and Fredrik are not dead, her mind reasoned with her, they're alive and are somewhere hiding probably feeding information to someone. No, her heart would then say, they would never turn their back on us.
Someone wraps their arm around her figure, holding a towel. (Y/n) snaps out of her thoughts and looks at Annie who was wrapping a towel around both of their figures, "You still look cold with your towel, so I'm sharing mine with you."
"Thank you," (Y/n) softly says as she leans her head onto her friend's shoulder. Reiner, Bertholdt, Eren, and Jean were off in the lake trying to catch whatever fish they could. Mikasa, Armin, Krista, and Ymir were conversing about heaven knows what. Connie and Sasha were performing some kind of ritualistic dance.
"What are they doing?" (Y/n) asks, a laugh escaping her lips.
"They said that it would help catch more fish" Annie replies, holding onto (Y/n) a little tighter. (Y/n) joyfully gets closer to the blonde, her wet hair was brushing on Annie's neck and the blonde didn't complain.
Annie would be lying if she said that she didn't have some kind of connection with (Y/n). Although, everyone seemed to have some sort of connection with the (h/c) haired girl.
Night had soon fallen. Reiner had caught the biggest fish, and Jean and Eren fought each other over whatever in the world they were mad at. Fish was propped up on sticks over the open fire.
"I'm going to go change out of my clothes" (Y/n) states and stands up from the log. She grabs onto her bag and heads into the dark forest where no one could see her change. (Y/n) was taking off her wet shirt and bandage when her demon senses go off again, "Come out from wherever you are hiding."
A girl with dark green skin and covered in algae pokes her small head out from the tree that was in front of (Y/n). Her green hair was dripping wet and her hands were webbed. Her yellows eyes stare at her curiously.
"You're not a demon, are you?" (Y/n) whispers softly. The girl shakes her head in response to show that she was indeed something other than a demon.
"Are you a water spirit?" (Y/n) whispers, slowly stepping up to the girl. She nods in response and a bubble comes out her mouth, popping when she closes her lips, "Why did you try to drown me?"
She shakes her head furiously, stating that she was innocent. She then makes a motion with her webbed hands. Cave, she motions.
"You wanted to take me to your cave?" (Y/n) asks and the girl violently nods her head, smiling. Her sharp teeth showing, "I can't breathe underwater like you, so you almost killed me."
The girl lets out a whimper, her yellow eyes dropping down in shame, "I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you upset. Just know for next time."
The water spirit lights up at her comment. Her head snaps towards the lake and she looks back at (Y/n). She motions her arms like if she was cradling a baby and waves, running away towards the lake.
"Did she want to show me her baby?" (Y/n) asks herself. She had never seen a nature spirit, neither had her demon friends. Elma had explained to her that they only come out in the presence of someone powerful or someone who could be trusted.
(Y/n) shakes her head, I am not going to ponder over this, I'm just going to put on my clothes and head back so I can eat. So she quickly changes into her dry clothes, making sure that the new bandage was on and heads back to her friends. Annie was still sitting on the same log, holding two sticks in her hands. (C/n) was happily eating a small fish that Jean had caught for her. At this point, everyone knew about the feline's presence, perhaps even Shadis.
"Is that for me or are you going to eat both?" (Y/n) pipes up, sitting down next to her friend.
"Well, if you don't want it then I wouldn't mind eating it" Annie replies, a small smirk appearing on her face.
"Nah, I'll take it, thank you very much" (Y/n) says and takes one stick from her. As she ate her fish she couldn't help but watch over all her friends that were sitting around. They all look relaxed as if titans never existed. At this very moment, (Y/n) couldn't help but feel that she would do anything to protect her friends. Even if it means outing herself to the world.
