"Boys! We have a visitor!" Bruce called out from the main room, knowing that any second there will be many broken objects.
And sure enough, the pounding of feet could be heard from where he stood, and at least one object already breaking.
Jason was the first to arrive, jumping off the tall railing at the top of the steps, falling down only to roll once he hit the floor so there was a smaller chance of breaking things.
Tim was next, slowly walking down the steps, holding a mug of coffee, his bags so heavy you could see them from downstairs.
Damian arrived last, walking in from what he assumed was the library because of the face Damian made told him he interrupted his reading.
Dick was visiting for the weekend, but he was still about an hour drive away from the Manor, so Alfred agreed to just introduce the girl before hand.
"Boys, this is Alexis." Bruce gestured to the girl standing half behind him, half visible.
"Tt. Is this another orphan you picked up father?" Damian asked, clearly unamused by the new person.
Bruce's stare turned colder. "No. Alfred wanted you to meet his granddaughter."
"GRANDDAUGHTER!?" All three boys shouted in suprise, staring at the girl in disbelief, only causing her to fully hide behind the billionaire.
Bruce narrowed his eyes at his sons after the girl hid in fear.
"Sorry." Tim mumbled, looking at the floor feeling ashamed of himself for already scaring the new guest.
"Yes. Granddaughter. And I expect you treat her nicely." Bruce sternly ordered his sons before exiting the room, leaving a scared Alexis to face the boys.
Damian stepped forward. "Damian Wayne." He simply told the girl, before sticking out his hand, waiting for her to shake it.
Alexis hesitantly shook it. "Alexis Pennyworth."
Damian just nodded before exiting the room all together and heading back for the library he came from.
"Jason Todd." Jason just told the girl, before running off, skipping three steps at a time up to his room.
"I'm Tim Drake." Tim explained, also offering a hand for her to shake, which she hesitantly shook.
"So you're the one who keeps staying up nights at a time." The girl giggled while shaking his hand.
Tim blushed. "Ah, so Alfred told you about me."
"A little bit. He told me what to expect the most from all of you." Alexis explained, releasing her grip on his hand.
Alexis crouched down to grab the backpack off the floor and the small red suitcase before popping back up.
"So how long are you planning on staying here?" Tim asked the girl.
"I honestly don't know. I just packed for a week at most."
Tim nodded. "Want me to show you to an empty room you can stay in?"
"Is there one by the music room?" Alexis asked, a shine in her eyes.
"Yeah. It's not right next door, but I'll show you around as well."
Tim noticed her body slightly relax, which made him think back to how she acted when she first arrived.
She was hiding behind Bruce, and the fact she was very stiff and was sweating a little on her forehead would back up the evidence that she was scared.
"Are you... okay?" He asked the girl as they walked down the same hallway Damian had exited the room from.
"What? Why would you ask that?" She asked the boy, stiffening her back again and squaring her shoulders.
"Because you are sweating, your backs stiff, you hid behind Bruce earlier, and your shoulders are squaring." He explained.
"Don't be ridiculous." Alexis laughed, a nervous tone an under layer in her voice.
Tim sighed. "Alexis. It's okay to be scared. Was it Damian? The fact that we're new people? The fact you'll be living with strangers for who knows how long or-"
"It's none of that. Promise." Alexis quickly cut him off.
"Then what is it?" Tim asked, turning around to face her.
"It's nothing."
"You're lying."
"I get scared of big rooms, okay?" Alexis yelled in a hushly manner, which caused Tim to be shocked.
"Wait, so you're telling me you have agoraphobia?"
"Yes." Alexis hissed, looking down at the floor.
"May I ask why?"
"There's just so much space that could be left to be uncertain if someone is there or not, if someone's just ready to come and attack you."
By now Alexis was physically shaking, and he could make out the tears that were falling off her chin and onto the wood floor.
"Did you... have a bad experience in large rooms?" Tim asked, trying to grab hold of the situation.
Alexis didn't answer, but her legs did give out on her and she fell to the floor, shivering like she was in a hailstorm in nothing but undergarments.
She had lost her grip on the suitcase, and the red backpack she had on earlier slumped off her shaking shoulders.
Tim kneeled down and wrapped her in a hug, slowly stroking her long brown hair, shushing her.
Alexis cried into his shoulder silently, making a sob sound here and there, but all in all, it was very quiet in the hallway.
"I don't know what's wrong, but I'll try not to push. Mind you I'm very curious." Tim soothed her.
Alexis just nodded into his shoulder, her shaking had settled down, and her tears were almost gone.
Alexis just squeezed Tim even harder after she stopped crying and shaking, more of a "thank you" hug than a "comforting" hug.
When Alexis released her grip on Tim, Tim pushed her back lightly, grabbing hold of her shoulders, making her look into his eyes.
Her eyes were a peculiar color, it was purple with a faded yellow circling the outer edges. Such strange eyes.
"Thank you." Alexis smiled at the other, a small content smile spread across her face, not reaching her eyes.
"If you need someone to talk to, I'll always be here." Tim replied, gripping her shoulders a little more to show her he meant it.
And he did.
Yay! Another chapter, another idea gone. Phew. Don't need any more of those.
