3 months later....
Brooke POV:
Voight has just got finished explaining our case. My CI had gone rogue and helping out drug dealers now. They were killing the families that didn't pay up. He had asked me to go do a deal and I agreed.
"I can't let you do this." Jay said and everyone looked at me
"Let me?" I asked
"Uh oh." Adam said under his breath and Kim smacked him.
"This is my job. I'm a cop. Run in when every one is running out. To serve and protect. Nothing less. There is no letting me. It's my decision." I said
"But this... is too dangerous." He said
"It's just like any other day."
"Brooke..."
"No. I'm good." I said and walked away and Adam followed.
We had went out in the field and made a deal to meet up later. I went into the locker room to gear up.
"Can we talk?" Jay asked walking in "I didn't mean it like that. I wasn't trying to control you. I just didn't want you doing this one."
"We don't get to pick and choose who we save, Jay. He's my CI. I'm going to help him."
"I just don't want you getting hurt."
"I won't."
"Okay can we forget about this then?"
"Jay, I wish it was that easy. But you know it's different for me." I said
"I understand." He said and put his hand on my cheek "so we'll cool it. But we'll always have each other's backs" he finished
"Always." I said
"That's good enough for now." He said and walked out.
"You alright?" Adam asked as I walked out
" no but let's go." I said and we left.
We went and met up with the dealer but my CI was there.
"You've got to be kidding. She's a cop." My CI, Ryan said
"Shut up Ryan." I said but it was too late the guys were running. Ryan pulled a gun towards me and I pulled mine. Jay was in front of me and Adam next to me.
"Ryan don't do this. Come on I can help you just like last time."
"I'll just end up back here."
"No. You won't. You have family and friends. Put the gun down. Don't make me do this." I said but he wasn't putting it down. Jay charged him and a gun shot went off. Everything was muffled. I was getting dizzy.
Nobody POV:
"Brooke? Hey you okay?" Adam asked her and she began to fall "Jay!" Adam chirped and they both rushed to help her.
"Woah woah hey hey hey Brooke are you alright? Can you hear me? You're going to be okay." Jay said trying to prevent her from falling.
"You're okay you're okay come on." He said "just breathe come on stay with me Brooke." He said and the rest of the team showed up.
"5021 Ida 10-1 10- 1 shots fired at the police. I need an ambulance at my location fast!" Burgess called into the radio. About five minutes later ambo 61 was there. We put her in the ambulance with Brett and Dawson.
"One of you come with." Sylvie said.
"You go man you're her partner." Jay said to Adam
"You go you're much more than that." Ruzek said
"Not anymore." Jay said
" Jay, you'll always be. Go." Adam said and jay got in the truck. They got to the hospital. Will came running towards his brother.
" 26 year old female gun shot to the chest and lower abdomen. Pulse is tachy. She's in and out of consciousness." Brett spewed out.
"Jay you alright?" Will asked him
"I'm good. Just.... just make sure she's okay." Jay said tripping over his words
"What happened?" Will asked
"We we're working. I told her it was too dangerous. I told her she shouldn't go in. We broke up. She... she thinks I'm over protective but I knew this was too dangerous. I still love her man." Jay rambled
"Okay hey. I'm sorry this happened. But jay I need you in the waiting room you can't be here." Will said trying to push him out the door
"No. No she needs me here. She can't be alone." Jay said but then the monitors started to beep and she flatlined.
"Get him out of here! Jay, go!" Will yelled
"She can't be alone!" Jay yelled
"She's not! I've got her. Go." Will said and gabby pulled him out of the room.
Jay POV:
I was pacing.
"Jay she's going to be okay. She's a fighter." Gabby said
"What if she doesn't make it and the last thing I said to her was that I was good being friends for now. I should've told her the truth."
"What are you talking about?" Gabby asked. Brett joined us in the hall.
"I love her. That's why I'm so protective of her. I love her. She's my entire world and I can't lose her." I said with tears in my eyes.
"You won't." Voight said walking up to me "she has to fight and that means we have to fight right alongside her." He finished putting a hand on my shoulder and I just nodded.
"How is she?" Adam asked
"They're working on her." Brett said "let's go in the waiting room." She added and everyone walked together. The fire department was there soon after.
"Matt." I said
"Hey. She okay?" He asked
"They were working on her last time we checked." Gabby said
"Are you okay?" Matt asked me and I just shook my head and he gave me a hug. Everyone just sat there.
Hours later....
Will came out and I stood up.
"I need the family." Will said
"Will, this is her family." Matt said and he looked at me and I nodded.
"She's out of surgery. She should be in the clear. Just needs to rest a bit. She's awake. 1-2
People at a time." Will said and Matt stepped forward "she's ugh. She's actually asking for
Jay." He continued
"I can't. Let Matt go." And Matt nodded
"Severide." Matt said and he followed
Nobody POV:
"Hey kiddo." Kelly said walking in.
"He didn't want to see me?" Brooke asked weakly.
"That's not true. I think he's just scared." Kelly said
"What happened between you two?" Matt asked
"I pushed him away. Said I do things differently. I never do in house relationships. He was protective and didn't want me going out on this one cause it was my CI. I figured if I pushed him away he wouldn't get hurt if I did or if I didn't make it back one day." Brooke finished.
"Awww kid. That's not true and you know it." Kelly said wiping a tear away.
"I don't get it." Matt said
"Get what?" Brooke asked
"Matt." Kelly said and shook his head.
"What's wrong with being dependent on someone who loves you with everything he has?!" Matt said louder.
"You don't get it." Brooke said
"No I do. Trust me. Our jobs they're the ones where we risk our lives every time that radio goes off. But that doesn't mean we don't deserve to have someone by our side day in and day out. He loves you brooks. He's losing it out there because he regrets letting you walk away."
"Then why won't he come and see me?" Brooke asked
"Because I don't think he knows that you're regretting the same decision." Kelly said
"You two need to talk. You need to tell him what you told us." Matt said and Brooke nodded. There was a knock on the door and it was voight.
"We'll come see you in a little. Rest up." Kelly said
"Love you little sister." Matt said and they both kissed her head.
Brooke POV:
Voight came to my side.
"How you feeling?" He asked
"Like I was shot twice." I said and he smiled
" we're all happy you're okay. Some more than most." He said and smiled
" I just don't know if this can work."
"I get it. I don't always approve of this type of thing. But, ruzek and burgess are doing it. I know they have each other's backs. I know jay will always have yours. You have to trust each other . It's not going to be easy but if you love him and he loves you then why not, kid? The question is do you love him?" He asked.
"Yes." I said and he smiled "I'm scared." I added
"If you weren't I'd be worried." He said. A little while later jay came to the door.
Jay POV:
"Alright well I'll see you in a little bit alright kid?" Voight asked and kissed her head
"Thanks hank." She said and he walked towards me.
"Only do this because you care. Don't break her heart." He said
"I won't." I said and walked in
"Hey. How you feeling?" I asked
"Sore." She smiled
"Listen, Jay..." she started
"No I get it. It's okay." I said cutting her off "it just wasn't the right time."
"That's not what I was going to say. I thought if I got hurt or if I died then it wouldn't hurt you as much if I let you go."
"Brooke..." I said with tears in my eyes
"Let me finish. I thought it would be easier. But after being convinced and realizing I was wrong. I knew it wasn't true. Jay, if this was you I'd be devastated. I'd be worried sick. I wouldn't have came when asked either. I'm surprised you're sitting here because I'm sure you don't feel the same way."
"You're right." I said still looking at the floor. She looked away.
"I am devastated. I was worried sick. When you collapsed in my arms I thought you were gone. I thought I had lost you. I had so many regrets; not fighting for you, just letting you walk away from this, not telling you I love you. Brooke, whenever something happens to you it will always destroy me to my core. We can be together and break up a million times but I will never stop being there for you. I will never stop caring for you. I will never stop having your back. I will never stop protecting you. I will never stop loving you." I said and she started to cry. " I love you Brooke. I always will." I said
" I love you too." She said and I smiled and kissed her.
"So are we doing this?" I asked
"Only if we promise to communicate everything. Trust each other completely. Because I have to be honest. I'm scared. Terrified even." She said
"So am I." I said and grabbed her hand.
