summertime has rolled around once again in hot and sunny sydney, australia. the final bell rings on the last day of school. as per usual friends are biding goodbye to each other and telling each other that they'll text them so they can hang out.
lee mina and her twin brother lee felix were the popular unpopular kids, chill with everyone but has little close friends.
"see you in autumn guys!!" their closest friend ava, bid them. the two waved bye before returning to emptying minas locker.
"finally time to leave this hell hole and enjoy the sun" mina said excitedly while piling papers beyond papers into the recycling bin.
felix chuckled at his sister, it's not like they were in a rush to get home anyways- their mom would probably load them with chores and explain their work system for the summer.

"okay I know neither of us want to get home, even though we have to pick up olivia from school- but besides that WHYD IT TAKE YOU SO LONG TO CLEAN YOUR GODDAMN LOCKER" he ranted to the smaller girl beside him as they walked home
"because it annoys you" she snickered and he punched her arm
they walked in peace, let the warm summer breeze flow through their school uniforms. mina stopped at one of the trees by the playground, where they normally stand while waiting for their sister to finish school.
"hmm the scenery is really pretty today. wanna take photos felix?" mina asked her brother with a pout, he scoffed
"mina i love you, but im not embarrassing myself in front of the other parents" mad, mina looked away and sat against the tree
she pulled out her phone to check the time

the end of day bell was just about to ring. mina stood up, brushed the dirt off the back of her skirt and walked with felix to the fence where they waited for their youngest sibling.
the doors opened and kids started pooling out one by one. they spotted their sister. she wasnt that much younger than them, she had just finished her last year of middle school- year 9- and mina and felix have just completed their junior year.
she walked up to her older siblings with disgust on her face
"really guys, im 14, you dont have to pick me up from school- especially since it's the last day" mina snorted and whispered to felix
"is this her teenage rebellion phase coming" he snorted too just picturing what she could end up doing
"what you got a date or something" olivias cheeks flushed red
"n-no i-its just you guys don't need to pick me up anymore" she stuttered, mina walked over and slung an arm over her shoulder
"who's the guy?" she whispered smirking
in the corner of her eye she saw a boy around olivias age looking over at them nervous. she gave felix the 'found him' type of look.
"okay olivia have fun on your playdate, mina and i will go" the younger punched felix in the arm before sprinting to the boy
"they look cute together" mina said as the twins continued their walk home
"we should hurry, get them out of my sight before over protective brother mode kicks in.

"MOM WE'RE HOME" mina yelled, walking through the front door kicking off her black converse.
"oh good you're both home" she said walking down the stairs to greet her children
"i have a surprise for you two" she gave them one of those smiles, you know the one your parents give you when they're about to do something you dont like or will find weird
felix and mina exchanged looks before glancing back at their mom
"what's the surprise" felix laughed out
"well- drumroll please" all of a sudden their older sister rachel started drumming against the wall, the twins looked at their sister unimpressed
"you're going to summer camp!!"
"WE'RE GOING TO WHAT" they both shouted in unison
"mmhmm, the both of you are flying over to california to attend a teenage summer camp for all 8 weeks of summer!!" the two were stunned, the didnt know what to say
"what are we 11? mom we're turning 17 soon-" their mother cut them off, and rachel snorted
"this is a decision your father and i made, some of our old friends from school are sending their kids as well- who are by the way, the same age as you two. its always been a dream of ours to make you all friends" mina whined like a little kid
"mommy i don't wanna go to a smelly summer camp, i want to stay home and sleep in everyday" she pouted but her mom just shushed her by placing a finger over her mouth
"no complaining the plane leaves first thing tomorrow" and with that she ran to the kitchen to start preparing dinner
the two glared at the now wheezing rachel
"3...2....1" they counted down before chasing rachel up through the house, unfortunately the eldest was too quick and locked herself in her room
"you guys might wanna start packing" felix punched her door earning a yell from mom
"sorry!"
lazily the two walked into their separate rooms and reunited at their connected bathroom.
"what am i even supposed to bring? my phone stuff, bathroom stuff and clothes?" felix shrugged while grabbing a suitcase from his closet. mina jumped and lay on her brothers bed
"what did we do to deserve this-" felix opened his mouth to speak but he was cut off
"actually dont answer that" she unwillingly got up and walked over to her room and began packing.

mina barely packed anything. all she packed was : six pairs of shorts (blue, black and white), multiple tees that dont take up much space in her suitcase, 3 hoodies (one of them being felixs, that she stole last week), 2 pajama shorts and 2 oversized shirts for bed, bathroom necessities, and her tech (phone and laptop along with chargers and earbuds)
even though when mapped out it seems like a lot, it didnt look like that much in her suitcase. she zipped up her suitcase and walked over to Felix's room. only to see him laying down, suitcase already packed and on the ground.
mina jumped on the bed beside him and stared at the ceiling
"welp, this is our last few hours of the enjoyable part of summer break" he groaned
"why us, why not rachel or olivia" felix whined
mina was going to say something but was interrupted by their mom shouting for dinner. mina jumped up and headed for the door, she stopped and turned around
"let's just hope we can make friends, I'll get sick of your face sooner or later"
