“Yeah, lemme guess,” I start, “The three of us were tied up and there was this woman telling you to shoot us. Am I right?”

“Uh…yeah, you are. How did you know that?” She says, bewildered.

“Look at your arm,” Sage cuts in just as we walk out of the bathroom, “they injected us with something through these tube things, Sugar and I took them outta you guys when we woke you up. We think they injected us with something to make us have that exact dream.”

“Why would they do that?” Asher asked.

“We haven’t gotten that far. I’m thinking it’s for some sort of experiment or something.” Sage responds.

“It probably is, it’s unnatural to be born on the same day here.” I state.

“So what do we do now?” Lilly says.

“We go up to Ms. Dew and demand answers.” Sage counters.

“Good idea, Sage, let’s go.” Asher agrees.

“No.” I say as I step in front of them, blocking the door.

“What? Why not Lills?” Sage asks.

“We have to think about this. None of us are really on her good side, and personally, I don’t think any of us like her to begin with. Plus, we can’t trust her. We’ll lay low, maybe ask Barker about it.”

“Well what if it happens again, Lilly?” Sage interjects.

“If it happens again, then and only then will we ask Ms. Dew. Can you guys live with that?”

“I think I can. You Sage?”

“Fine.” He grumbles as he pushes past me, walks out the door, and slams it behind him.

“Should I be worried, Asher?”

“No.”

“Would you mind giving me a quick look into his mind?”

“He’s just angry ‘cause he really cares about you and he doesn’t want you to get hurt, and he’s always protective over the people he gets really close to. He’s just walking it off. Don’t follow him. He needs to be alone, when he gets upset and angry this bad, he tends to react violently to pretty much anyone. Now he’d never hurt you, but he’d still be pretty pissed off.”

“Okay. When do you think he’ll come back?”

“Give him a couple hours. God, it sucks that we can’t know the time here. It’s freaking ridiculous!”

“I know. We’ll just go by the sun, it’s already, I’m gonna guess 4. If he’s not back by about 6, so dark, we’ll go look for him. Sound good?”

“Yeah, we’ll do that.”

“Okay, so what should we do till then, Sugar asks. Quite honestly, I forgot she was even in the same room.

“How about we find some way to cover those panels in the wall that move.”

“That’s a good idea, but I don’t think we should give them any way of knowing we know about them if they don’t already.” Sugar says.

“Yeah.” Asher says.

“What if we complained that we’re cold and request more blankets? Then we could pile up the blankets where the panels are.”

“That’s a perfect idea, Lilly,” Asher says, “Let’s check if there are extra blankets already here first though.”

“Okay but where do we look? The only other room in here is the bathroom.” I state.

“You haven’t looked much in there have you, Lilly?”

“Um.. not really, why?”

“Oh, you know. There’s a door in there that leads to a room filled with boxes of stuff.”

At the same time, we all run to the bathroom. How could I have missed this? I ask myself.

As Sugar tries the door handle, she says “Asher, it’s locked, how do you know what’s in there?”

“Uh, I looked through the keyhole, like everyone else does when there’s a locked door.”

“Hold on. See the hinges?” I say pointing.

“The answer doesn’t lie within the hinges, Lilly.”

“Actually it does Asher. Step aside.” I say to both him and Sugar.

“What is she doing?” I hear Asher whisper to Sugar. “She’s using what I taught her.” “And that would be?” “The strength she didn’t know she had until I showed her.”

Okay. I’m getting sick of their playful/flirt banter. BANG. Is the sound the door makes when I kick open the locks.

“So how and what did the hinges show you?” Asher comments.

“The hinges, my dear Asher, showed me that the door swings inward. If it swung outward. I wouldn’t have been able to do that.” I say as I smile triumphantly.

“Okay, okay.” He says putting his hands up in defense. “You got me. I wouldn’t have thought about that.”

“Okay, let’s see if we can find some blankets.”

“Good idea.” Sugar says.

It turned out to be a pretty big room. Filled with boxes, just as Asher said.

“Found them.” I said as I look at a huge box labeled ‘blankets’. I pick up the box and set it on a nearby end table. Peeling off the packing tape, I screech as big, furry, black spiders crawl up my arms, and make their way onto my face and down my shirt. Still freaking out, I make my best effort to quiet myself down as Sugar and Asher wipe all the spiders off of me.

“Asher, turn around.”

“Got it.” He says, fulfilling Sugar’s orders.

She helps me peel my spiderey shirt off and shakes it free of the spiders as I wipe the rest of the infernal not-so-little things from my torso. After a good 3 minutes of Sugar convincing me that they’re all gone and checking me multiple times, I put my shirt back on, and take a few more steps away from the box.

“Okay, Asher, you’re good now.”

“Okay” he says turning back around.

“Well, at least now I’ll know how to scare Lilly if ever I get too bored.”

“I swear, if you even TRY-“

“Lilly, let’s go back to the room. Asher, shake the spiders out of the blankets please.”

“Yes, commander.” He says holding his hand to his forehead in a salute.

“Lills, you okay?” Sugar asks.

“Other than more traumatized by spiders than I was before? Yeah. I’m fine.” I still shudder at the memory. When I was about 8, a time when my parents were particularly sick of me, they decided it’d be fun to dump a bucket full to poisonous spiders on me while I was sleeping. I was really lucky, since none of them bit me. But I’ve been deathly afraid of spiders ever since and I’m pretty sure I always will be. Sugar’s the only one I’ve ever told. Heck, she’s the only one I’d ever had to tell.

“Now listen, Lilly. I’m gonna go back and help Asher shake out the blankets. You gonna be okay alone for a few minutes?”

“Yeah. I’ll be fine thanks.”

“Okay.”

‘I should’ve kept that jumpsuit on.’ I think to myself. I’m gonna guess it’s only been about an hour since Sage left. I think I’ll stay awake. If I did I’d just sit there and think about that terrifying memory and I really don’t wanna do that.

I drift off into a hopefully dreamless sleep and hope that they’ll remember to wake me when the hunt for Sage probably commences.
