Peri: female, brown hair, green eyes, tall and skinny, and pretty. (wingless spark fairy; can't fly)
Sirena: female, blonde hair, sparkling blue eyes, average height, skinny, beautiful, has a beautiful singing voice. (enchanter)
Emory: male, light brown to blonde hair, tall, skinny, pale blue eyes, cute. (water fairy)
Kit: feamle, light brown hair, purple eyes, small, very lightweight, cute. (air fairy)
~Preface~
The sound of bells went down the hallways of the old hospital. The girl, Sirena, silently floats into the room, unseen. Before her eyes was a brilliant and beautiful little girl. Oh, how she wanted to touch the baby but she must remain unseen.
The baby girl looked up when she felt a presence. Sirena stared in awe. The princess was looking at her. Sirena is an enchanter and in this story, they protect fairies and other mythical creatures but nothing was mythical when Sirena saw that the princess had no wings. Her awe turned into horror. She'd never seen a wingless fairy before. Of course this had to be the princess, she had the fairys' mark and her mother's look.
The shadows were among them and the princess had to be safe. What will the queen, the baby's mother, say? Sirena takes the precious little baby girl and flys off. She stared back as the shadows looked for the baby. "Your name is Peri," Sirena whispered to the girl as she put a neckalce on her that said her name.
Suddenly, Sirena bumbed into a pole and dropped the baby. Because of Peri's fairy blood, she floated softly on the porch of a house.
Sirena took a deep breath of relief and flew down to get her. The porch lights turned on and Sirena heard some yelling. "MARTHA, GO GET THE PAPER!!!" She heard footsteps coming closer and flew away as fast as she can. Uh oh, she thought, I forgot Peri!!
All she could do now was watch as the woman looked down and took her inside the house. I'm really in trouble now, she thought.
Chapter 1
I'm Peri, a fifteen year old girl who has her head stuck in dreamland. Fairies, mermaids, and all that sutff has always fascinated me. I daydream about castles, gardens, water, air, fire, sparks, princesses, etc. I know I seem like a dork but that's my life. I sometimes wish I have wings and could fly away from here.
"Peri, come down and eat breakfast!!" Mom yells. Of course I know she isn't my real mom. I look nothing like her. Plus, she keeps reminding me that my mother abandoned me. Mom is nice... Tim, my 'dad', isn't. He cheats on her with some twenty-year-old girl. Did I mention he's forty-nine?
I run downstairs and look for my hot pockets. "Oh honey bee, Tim took the hot pockets with him to that college girl's house."
"Why do you stay with that, bastard?" I ask.
"He makes the money. We can't afford to go on our own with my part-time job. The economy is bad this time and I can't find a job anywhere."
"I told you that I'll get a job," I say.
"No, baby doll, I wouldn't want a job to get in the way of your school and stuff. I want you to be a smart girl with a good job."
"You can't pay for college. We don't have enough money."
"Oh I can try to squeeze every last bit of money out that old man."
"That's why I'm going to aim for a band scholarship."
"I told you, you can quit if you don't want to do it." The thing was, I wanted to quit but putting my mother through all that money loss (even if we barely have any) would be too much for her... and me. "Go eat breakfast," she says as she starts wiping the counter.
I grab a box of cereal. This is empty. I pick up another one, this is empty too. "Where's the cereal?"
"I saw some boxes," she says.
"They're empty. I hate it when Tim leaves empty boxes in the pantry. It makes it so hard to shop."
The bus squeaks as it stops.
"Go grab a granola bar and go!!" She gently pushes me out the door.
I get on the bus and a wad of paper is thrown at my head. I go to a really bad school. The education isn't that good and pretty much everyone is a stupid jerk. I sit next to Kit, my friend, and she greets me with a smile. "So, Peri, guess what!"
Kit always has her hair in her eyes and no one could see them but I see just a peek of her eye and it is... purple? "What?" I say as I try to look at her eyes again. She just covers them with more hair.
"I found a book about mermaids I thought you'd be interested in." She hands me a book with a mermaid on the cover.
"Wow, this is great!!" I open the book and with the old binding I thought I might tear it. "I just wish I was a fairy!!" I sigh. I seems that everytime I say 'fairy' Kit seems to tense up.
At school, it seems even more dangerous. Kids are getting slammed into walls, toilet paper everywhere. Wow.
~Emory~
I look out the window; humph, it's raining outside. I sigh as I sit in my throne, next to my Mom. "Emory, sit up striaght," Mom corrects my positure. I do what she says. Just like when I didn't use a british accent my mom yelled at me.
"Next," Father calls. I groan and slump in my seat. I really don't care if Mom yells at me for not sitting up straight. A girl runs into to room with her small wings wet and water dripping from the ends of her blonde hair.
"Who are you?" Father asks.
"I--" she takes a breath, "am Sirena--" takes another breath, "from the Spark Fairy Kingdom. My queen has sent me for--" another breath, "Prince Emory. It is his destiny to help find the--" breath, "Spark Princess."
"But she has been missing for fifteen years!!" Father scoffed.
"But the shadows are among us. Surely you can't sit around here waiting for their attack!! Only the four charmed fairies or enchanters can destroy the shadows. That would be me, Prince Emory, The Spark Princess, and an air fairy."
"I don't know why The Spark Queen would spend time trying to find her daughter when she should be strenghening her army for the shadow attack!!"
"She's taking a chance with fate." I fly from my seat and stand next to her.
"She's right!!" I say.
"Emory, not you too," Father groans.
"Please let me go, father. I could save the world!!"
"Um... well..." he looks at Mom who's noding her head yes, "Alright but what about your wedding?"
"Postpone it. I want to take a chance with fate too." I fly off.
"Wait for me!!" Sirena cries as she tries to fly. I take her arms and help her fly.
We walk in silence. I lift the rain off our wings as we walk. "I think I know where she is," Sirena says after a while.
"Where?" I ask in my non-british accent voice.
"At a school in that place!!! And hey, you're talking normal!!! I like it." She takes off but falls once the rain soaks her wings. I run to her and lift the water off her wings. "Sorry, got over exicted. I've seen the baby with my own eyes."
"You?"
"Yeah, I was kind of the one who..." she gets quiet as she speaks.
"How did you loose her?" I ask.
"I was saving her from the shadows and I bumped into a pole and dropped her. She landed on a porch and people live there and I freaked out so I left her there," she speaks too fast, "Anyway, we'll need a place to sleep until the rain lifts. Then I know where she is."
She walks off to a cave. "Don't worry; it's safe... maybe. I spend most of my time here and I haven't seen any creatures," she walks into the cave.
I cautiously walk into the cave.
We sit on the ground across from each other.... this is an ackward silence. The fire is burning out and Sirena stands up and says, "I'm going to get more fire wood." I grab her arm and shake my head. I didn't want to be left alone here. Who knows what might get me?! "I'll be back in a few minutes.... are you scared to be alone?"
"No!! Of course not!! I'm not a little boy." I cross my arms.
"Fine, just watch over the fire." She skips out and I look around. I'm a little afraid of the fact that animals could come and bite my face off. The fire goes out, leaving me alone in the darkness.
Footsteps sounded like they were coming in the cave. With my heart pounding against my rib cage, about to crack, I look around the cave, trying to see through the darkness.
"Boo!" someone grabs my shoulders.
I scream.
Sirena laughs, "You weren't scared, were you?"
"I wan't scared!!!" I protest.
~Peri~
I fight against the currents of crazy students pushing and shoving. Someone spanks my butt. I turn around and yell, "Hey!!" The guy runs off and I chase him.
"No, Peri, it's not worth it!!" I hear Kit call to me.
I don't care, he did something so innapropriate!!! He goes into the guys bathroom. I stop for a second. Should I go in there? Yes, I'm not the person who acts out like this but he pissed me off!!
I run into the bathroom. He's in the stall; I crawl under and start punching him. He screams in pain. My knuckles hurt too!!! He shouldn't be crying. The teacher opens the stall door. Now... I see.... why... oh boy. I groan and say, "This isn't what it looks like!!" He grabs my shirt collar and drags me to the principal's office.
"Peri, I am very dissappointed in you. You were always the quiet one. Why do you choose now to go in a guy's bathroom and punch the hell out of the boy?"
I cross my arms and slump in my seat. "I refuse to speak without and atorney."
"This isn't Judge Judy." What's Judge Judy? If it's a Tv show, I don't watch TV (Tim doesn't let me).
"It might as well be since I feel like I'm being threatened just to walk through the hallway!! I don't mean to be mean but you need a little more order. I feel like I'm going to be killed!!"
He sits and stares at me with a long gaze and finally, picks up the phone, "I'm calling your mom."
"What?!?! NO!!!" I reach for the phone, if my mom finds out...
"Yes? I'd like to speak with Peri's Mom.... oh okay, yeah so your daughter has been acting out in school...... well why don't you come over here then?" Almost in a heartbeat, Mom rushes through the office doors.
"What did she do?" Mom asks.
"She went into a boy's bathroom... and punched a young boy."
"Peri!!" Mom accused.
"He spanked my butt!!!" I'm self-concious and I don't like it when people touch my in the 'no' spot. I don't mind if it was just a joke but he did for... I don't want to talk about it.
"Was it a joke?"
"NO!!" I say.
The Principal has a look glare at me and then says, "You're kicked out of this school. GO!" He points to the door.
We walked out to the car and once we're in Mom says, "Oh, Peri!"
"Mom!"
"I know it wasn't right but you know that this is the cheapest school I can afford." I frown and look out the window. I could feel heat building up in my cheeks.
Once we get home I run into Tim. He's.... portly. "Where're you goin'?"
"To my room, doosh bag!!" I growl.
"You know you can't use that language to me!! I make the money!!"
"What do you work as? A cashier at McDonald's? I bet they give you a disscount on food because, wow you're a fat ass." I spank his tummy.
"GET OUT OF HERE!! I'VE HAD IT WITH YOU!!! GO FIND SOME OTHER PEOPLE TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR SELFISH NEEDS!!!" I frown at stick the finger up at him as I walk out the door. I run as I get on the sidewalk.
I hate my life!! Tears burn the back of my eyes and blur up my vision. I run into Kit. "Where are you going?" she asks.
"I'm going.... somewhere," I slowly creep away, "I need to run and errand." I run away but she grabs my arm with a worried look on her face. "I got kicked out of the house," I sigh.
"What are you going to do?"
"I don't know," I groan, "It's like I don't I have anywhere to go."
"Oh," she stares at the ground, her face lights up, "Hey, you can stay with me!!"
"No, I couldn't do that to your poor family." Kit's family has always been nice to me. She grabs my wrist and pulls me towards her house.
~Emory~
We creep around the school building. I can't wait to see the Spark princess. I heard she's the fastest flyer ever.
"I know she goes to this school!!" Sirena explains, "We have to find out."
"But we can't just walk in, we have wings!!"
"Here," she gives me a shirt that says... 'Aeropostale'. "Put it on and tuck your wings inside."
I slip it on as she tucks her wings inside her shirt. We walk inside. Oh my God, these wild humans are absolutely nuts!!! A slushy expoldes in my face. I wipe my eyes with the look of disgust.
We walk inside the office. Wow, these poor humans have to walk around all day long!! "May I help you?" a guy asks. I'm guessing he's a.... 'principal' from what I heard.
"Does Peri go to school here?" Sirena asks.
"Who? I don't know what you're talking about."
"Peri..."
"What are you doing?" I mutter to her.
"I don't know her last name," she admits.
"I just kicked a Peri out of school."
"Where does she live?" I ask.
"Why would I tell you?"
"Because we might give you a little something in return," I set a piece of gold on the desk. "Don't touch it until you answer the question."
"She lives here," he writes down an adress on paper. I take the paper and leave the school.
"How did you do that?" Sirena asks.
"I may not know about humans but I know what all fairies and humans want... wealth."
"Do you want wealth?" she asks.
"No, I want adventure." And I also want love but I wouldn't tell that to her... ever. She might get over excited thinking I like her, which I do, but not in that way.
I take off the shirt and let my wings free. They flutter with delight. Sirena takes off her shirt and let's her wings free too. Enchanters have very small wings with little gold specks.
We fly off to the address that was on the paper. We land on a porch and tuck our wings back. Sirena knocks on the door. A fat ass man answers, "No, I'm not interested in your little goodies."
"Excuse me?" Sirena says. "We're here for Peri."
"I just kicked her out of the house."
"Do you know where she is?" I ask through my teeth.
"Why would I care? If I did know, I still wouldn't tell you." Sirena's face turns red with anger.
She walks away and he slams the door. "GREAT!!!" she yells into the sky, "I just thought for a second I found her!!!"
We wander around. "So Peri, I can't wait until you're moved in with me," I hear someone talking. My head pops up and I run towards the sound. "Sirena, I think I've found her!!!"
I find two people talking and laughing. One of the girls flips her hair over her shoulder and I catch a glimpse of a Spark fairy tatoo. I run faster towards the girls. I stop in front of them and they scream.
~Kit~
"So Peri," I say, "I can't wait until you're moved in!! We can be like sisters!!"
"Yeah, that would be nice," she says, distracted.
"What's wrong, Peri? You've had your head up in the clouds today and more than usual."
"I just keep thinking how great it would to be a fairy!!" Uh oh, she said 'the other f word'. I'm an air fairy and I guess it kind of makes me uncomfortable when she says the word 'fairy'. My mom says just to ignore the word and move on but I feel really uncomfortable. My parents aren't fairies because I'm adopted.
"Uh, Peri, I have something to tell you."
"Hmm?"
"I'm.... an air fairy."
She stares at me for a long second (not good) and then bursts out laughing (also not good).
"I'm serious!!!"
"I'm sorry, Kit. I want to believe in them but Tim says that it's stupid."
"Do you always believe what Tim says?" I snap.
"No, I guess not but Mom agreed too."
"I'll prove it!!"
"Sorry but you don't have any wings. Unless I overlooked them."
"They're tucked in my shirt." I reach back to untuck them when I crazy guy jumps in front of us. We scream and try to run away. He grabs my ankle and pulls me away, "HELP!!!!" I scream.
"KIT!!! NO!!!" Peri tries to grab me but fails.
"RUN, GET THE POLICE!!!! SAVE YOURSELF!!!!" She gives me a look of sympathy and then runs away. Good luck, Peri.
The guy drags me; my torso is getting scraped on the pavement. When he drags me on the grass, the grass juice stings my cuts. "What do you want?!?! I carry pepper spray!!" I reach into my empty pocket. I don't have pepper spray but I have to threaten him.
"Shh," the guy hushes, "My name is Emory."
"What do you want?!" I scream.
"I heard you know a Peri."
"Yes I do but is that any reason to drag a person off?!?!"
"Was that girl you were talking to Peri?"
"Yes."
"Did she just get kicked out of her house?"
"No," I didn't want to tell him everything. He's a creep. I catch a glimpse of something sparkly.... wings. "You're a fairy?!?!" I burted out.
"What? No," he says.
"I saw wings!!!"
"Do you live in a crazy house? I can assure you that I don't have any wings." I jump on him and feel something soft and light.
"You have wings!!" I love the feel of wings. They feel soft and light. Almost as if they didn't exsist but you can feel them a little bit.
"Okay, I'm a fairy but now that you know, you're our prisoner." I nod; what? Did you think I was going to tell him that I'm a fairy too? Hell no!!
~Peri~
I run as fast as I can to the police. "Help!!" I yell once I get there, "My friend has just been kidnapped!!" The police rush out the door.
This is offically the worst day ever. I get kicked out of school, then out of my home, and then my friend gets kidnapped. WTF?!?! This is probably the worst day in the history of all days.
