"HUUUURGGEHH"

As if on impulse my body jolted up and I began puking.

I looked around and all I saw was darkness.

"Ah nice to see that sleeping beauty has finally awoken" I heard someone voiced.

I followed the sound of the voice and startled in surprise when I realized the figure was sitting on the bed beside me.

Wait, bed?

My eyes re-adjusted in the darkness. Although the moonlight coming from the blinds were faint I could recognize this setting anywhere. I was in my childhood bedroom. The real question was why was I here? How did I get here?

"Stop making that face, you'll get wrinkles." The voice next to me called out while reaching for my face and trying to flatten out my frown lines between my eyebrows.

"Who are you?" I questioned while swatting the hand away and moving closer to the edge of the bed.

"A beauty among all deities is what I am." the voice stated with a tone of amusement.

Although I was in no mood for jokes as I studied the face next to me more I could not deny her statement. Under the moonlight, she looked especially alluring. Her long silver hair flowed to her small waist. Small, sharp nose with thin baby lips. The part that enchanted me the most was her eyes.

Those eyes are something I've never seen before.

Scarlet red eyes that could bewitch me if I stared any further. So I did the most plausible thing I could think of to break the trance I was in.

"Ugly little thing" I stated and looked away. I said that to break eye contact, but I could feel my cheeks heating up. Something must be wrong with me to be able to blush just by staring at her.

"Who are you calling ugly, ugly!" the girl roared as she stood upright. "I, Yue Lao am a god...err or should I say goddess that no one would dare disrespect" the girl continued to voice.

I ignored her while she continued to rant about her beauty and shapely body. Yue Lao? Where have I heard that name before?

"GASP!" I exclaimed when I realized who she was.. or should I say him?

There is a legend that told of an old man under the moon. This old man was also known as Yue Lao. Yue Lao is a god of marriage and love in Chinese mythology. He appears as an old man under the moon. Yue Lao appears at night and unites with a silken cord all predestined couples, after which nothing can prevent their union. It is said he is immortal and lives either in the moon or in the obscure regions (Hades).

According to Chinese legend, the deity in charge of "the red thread" is believed to be Yue Lao the old lunar matchmaker god, who is in charge of marriages. According to this myth, the Red Thread of Fate is a belief that the gods tie an invisible red cord around the ankles of those that are destined to meet one another in a certain situation or help each other in a certain way. The two people connected by the red thread are destined lovers, regardless of place, time, or circumstances. This magical cord may stretch or tangle, but never break.

The legend told says there was once a young man named Wei Gu he was passing the city of Songcheng where he saw an old man leaning on his pack reading a book in the moonlight. Being amazed at it, Wei Gu walked up and asked what he was doing. The old man answered: "I am reading a book of marriage listing for who is going to marry whom. When Wei Gu and the old man came together to a marketplace, they saw a blind old woman carrying a three-year-old little girl in her arms. The old man said to Wei Gu: "This little girl will be your wife in the future." Wei Gu thought this was too strange to believe and he ordered his servant to stab the girl with his knife.

Fourteen years later, Wang Tai, the governor of Xiangzhou, gave Wei Gu his daughter in marriage. Wang Tai had difficulty finding a suitable match of higher standing for his daughter even though she was a beautiful young woman because she had difficulty walking and had a large scar on the small of her back. When Wei Gu asked what had happened, he was told that she had been stabbed by a man in the marketplace fourteen years before.

"You...are you perchance Yue Lao the god of marriage and fate?" I whispered ceasing the girl's rant.

She slowly curved her lips upward in an almost seduction smile and moved closer. "From what I've seen the younger one was the brighter one, but you're not too bad yourself. Not too bad at all" Yue Lao stated while clapping and laughing.

I gave her a confused look.

"Why are you here? Why am I here? Shouldn't I be dead?"

Yue Lao sighed. "I was going to trick you a bit more, but you're too serious that it's no fun!" She exclaimed while pouting.

"I am indeed Yue Lao the god of marriage and love." Yue Lao said while smirking.

I gave her a confused look. "How can that be? Yue Lao is an old man and you.." I eyed her face and body up and down, "are clearly not."

"Ah THAT. I figured it would be more fun this time around if I spiced up my look a little bit. No one takes an old man seriously. Don't you feel more comfortable with me like this rather than an old man? Besides.." Yue Lao proceeded to do a little twirl, "look at my hot bod." She exclaimed while giving me a wink.

I couldn't help it. I blushed.

"Y-you're saying you're an old man disguising himself as a young girl?" I asked.

"What a pervert" I mumbled under my breath.

"PERVERT!? You ugly thing dare insult me!" Perverted Lao began to rage.

"Regardless that doesn't explain why you're here! I'm supposed to be dead." I stammered nervously.

"Oh THAT." Yue Lao said in a bored tone. "Due to your STUPID decision to follow after your sister and jump off that bridge you did die...however, for reasons that are of no concern at the moment you have been reborn. In other words, you have been given a second chance." Yue Lao abruptly stood up and slowly made her way towards me. Her eyes darken and looked almost hauntingly.

"A second chance. Take my advice. Don't. Mess. It. Up." She stately coldly, putting emphasis on the last four words. I swear the temperature in the room dropped a few degrees sending shivers down my spine.

And almost as if nothing happen Yue Lao smiled and changed back to her bright, annoying self. "Got it?" she said giddily.

"Why me though?" I asked confused. For what unknown reason would I be given a second chance at life. I didn't do anything to deserve it.

Yue Lao sighed loudly once again. "UGH. I take it back. You must really be the stupid one of the two. Why must you ask so many questions?" She continued to give me a dirty look before continuing. "Right before you died, don't you remember what you said?"

I thought about it. I wish I could take it back, take it all back just to bring you back to me my sweet lotus.

"Do you get it now?" She stated bored once again while laying on my bed.

"So I was given a second chance to bring LianLian back? To fix the mess I made?"

"More or less. There's a bit more to it, but where's the fun in it if I give you all the answers. I'll let you use that little brain of yours to figure it out yourself." Yue Lao smirked devilishly. She was enjoying my confusion.

"I'm not stupid," I started getting a bit pissed off that she kept insulting me.

"Oh? So you do know? I couldn't tell because in your past life you acted pretty foolish. Especially when it came to him." Yue Lao smirked again. God her face was starting to annoy me. I want to wipe that big ol' smirk off her perfectly shaped face. "I'll give you a little hint so you don't mess up this second chance. You've been given a second chance. A second chance at life. A new life! I already know you're thinking about how to save your meimei and bring her happiness, but don't forget about yours too." She stated before abruptly getting up.

"I won't mess it up," I stated with confidence I didn't even know I had.

"I hope so. Now if you'll excuse me, this body could only last me for so long. I need to recharge. I'll be watching what moves you make from now on. I hope you don't disappoint me, little stupid." She stated with a smirk before disappearing.

Once she left I was left on my own with only the darkness and my thoughts to sort through everything that was going on.

The only thing I knew for sure was I definitely wasn't going to ruin this second chance I was given. I would right my wrongs and be sure to give Lianlian the happiness she deserved.

I wouldn't put my happiness above hers this time.

If this was a drama, I vowed to be the best supportive second lead in Lianlian's happy ending.

Meimei: younger sister

A/N:

The picture above is what I imagined the female Yue Lao looks like.

The story is probably going to progress pretty slowly, but I'll try my best to make it interesting!
