I woke up the next morning and got dressed for the day and went into the common room. Harry and Ron were playing Wizard Chess talking about that oh so beautiful girl the saw last night.
"I'm telling you we have to figure out who she is she's gorgeous! Did you see the way her hair shined when she turned around." Ron said
"And her eyes were a perfect shade of brown." Harry said
"Who are you guys talking about?" I asked as I sat down next to Harry.
"This beautiful girl we saw last night she was the one in the dark teal dress." Ron said
"Oh really." I said internally crying I was laughing so hard
"Yeah she was the prettiest one there." Harry said
"Well Ron to answer your question no it did not hurt when I fell from heaven." I said and couldn't hold back my laughter anymore. I fell over off of my seat I was laughing so hard Ron and Harry both looked bewildered.
"That was you!" Ron and Harry said at the same time and I nodded still laughing as I sat back in my seat. I wiped the tears from my face from my laughter.
"That was not nice to lead us on like that! God Hermione I thought you were our friend!" Ron said
"I am but you were very content on dancing with me and I could risk anyone else knowing that was me." I said
"Who knew it was you?!" Harry said
"The girls from my dormitory and Ginny." I said calming my laughing and I heard her laughing as she walked over.
"You knew that was her and youdidn't tell me!" Ron said to her as she sat down.
"You never asked me who she was." Ginny said "Which pick up line did he used?" Ginny asked still laughing
"Did it hurt when you fell from heaven." I said and started laughing again
"Oh Ron you need some better pick up lines." Ginny said. We stopped laughing a couple minute later. "Hey Hermione can you help me do my hair for the masqurade since you're so good at it." Ginny asked
"Yeah I'll come by your dormitory just before I get ready and I'll do your hair." I said taking Harry's turn in wizards chess and checkmating Ron because Harry was going to move the wrong piece.
"Hey! You can't do that that's cheating." Ron said
"Not cheating just helping." I said with a smile.
"Well your helping just lost me my game." Said Ron grumpily
"That's for hitting on me." I said with a triumphant smile at his loss for words. The day seemed to go very slowly as I waited to get back to the ball. We wen down to breakfast and everyone was talking about who they might've been dacing with. I looked over at the Slytherin table trying to identify my date but there wasn't a single person who had his hair color. Maybe he changed it to make himself even less recondnisable, he was smart.
"Why do you keep looking at the Slytherin table?" Harry asked as half way through breakfast I looked over for the 5th time trying to think of possible candidates for my date.
"Well it turns out that my date was a Slytherin which was a really big shock to me because he acted the complete opposite of a Slytherin." I said still scanning the table.
"Wait?! You're going to the masqurade with a Slytherin?!" Ron said
"A Slytherin who was more of a gentleman than you were. He didn't hit on me or try to make a move on me or insult me even after he knew I was a Gryffindor. He wanted to get to know me, he wanted to get to know the person behind all the beauty. That's the kind of person I want to date, that's the kind of guy every girl deserves not just one that only cares about how she looks. The whole time I danced with you and Harry you just hit on me and told me how beautiful I was you didn't really want to get to know the person behind the mask. I bet neither of you could answer what your dates' favorite colors are." I said to them
"Yeah we can my dates' favorite color was uhhh green I think." Ron said
"See you aren't even sure!" I said
"Oh yeah well what's your dates' favorite color?" Ron asked
"Sunset orange because he used to sit at his window when he was little and watch the sunset go down thinking about if he'd ever find someone." I said
"Oh please he was just saying that to make you fall for him even more. Boys always fake sensitive to make you fall for them." Ron said
"He wasn't faking I know when I'm being lied too and I wasn't being lied to then. We don't lie to each other because lies get you no where but hurt in life." I said and I got up and stormed out of the Great Hall. I walked outside to the tree by the lake and climbed up it. I sat and started to cry. I hated when people yelled at me because it makes me feel like a dissapointment. Like I didn't do anything right, when people yell at me it sends me back to my childhood and makes me feel like I have no friends and nobody cares for me. I feel as though a dementor is standing right next to taking away all my happiness. I hadn't even notice that someone had climbed up in the tree and was holding me in their arms until now. I didn't look up to see who it was I stayed right where I was and didn't move. I tried to stop crying and did after a couple minutes. I stayed in the persons arms as they held me. They were warm and comforting and made me feel safe. I wiped the tears from my face. I still didn't look to see who it was but then all of a sudden I heard Ron yell
"What are you doing with Hermione get your hands off of our friend!" I looked down and saw Ron running toward me and whoever was holding me. The person held me even tighter and said
"No, she's hurt because you were mean to her and I came out here for our tutoring lessons and saw her crying so I helped her unlike you who just broke her down." It was Draco? Draco was holding me when I was hurt he was being nice?
"Hermione are you really going to put up with him?! He's just trying to hurt you even more! He doesn't really care he's using you!" Ron yelled
"I am not! She's my friend now." Draco said
"Please she'd never be your friend!" Ron yelled
"I know more about her than you do." Draco said
"Please she'd never tell you anything about her that I don't know." Ron said
"Fine middle name? Favorite color? Favorite drink? Favorite subject?" Draco asked
"Ann, red, hot chocolate, and arithmacy!" Ron said
"Wrong, it's Jean, blue, butterbeer, and charms." Draco said
"No it's not!" Ron yelled
"Yes it is." I said
"Hermione come on you know I didn't mean any of what I said I was just mad that you played me like that last night made me look stupid in front of my sister and now she'll always hold that against me!" Ron said
"That's your own problem. Don't hit on girls if you don't know who they are." I said
"He hit on you?" Draco asked in a whisper
"Yeah he used a pick up line and everything but I mean I was pretty much unrecodnisable with my make up and my amazing teal dress and mask." I whispered
"He's right that his sister will never let him live that down." Draco whispered back to me
"Are you two almost done." Ron said annoyed
"Are you a unicorn?" Draco retorted
"That's it Malfoy!" Ron yelled but I reacted quicker than ever I couldn't get my wand out fast enough though so I moved in front of Draco and before Ron could stop himself he yelled Sectumsempra. The spell hit me and I fell to the the ground bleeding badly. I was in a lot of pain as I layed on the ground. I curled up but then felt Draco's arms wrap around me and he picked me up and started running with me back to the school. He ran in the school holding me in his arms telling me I'd be okay. I couldn't even move I was in so much pain and I was bleeding a lot.
"Hermione I promise you'll be okay." He said. I then heard Madam Pomfrey's voice
"Oh dear lord what happened to her?!"
"She put herself infront of a spell that was aimed at me." Draco said setting me down on one of the beds.
"Which one was it?"
"Sectumsempra" He said
"I know just the countercurse." Madam Pomfrey said and she did the counter curse. My pain went away and I stopped bleeding. She then put some dittany on my rather deep cuts. I felt a little better so I sat up leaning back ony pillows.
"Are you okay?" Draco asked
"Aside from all the blood on me yeah I'm fine." I said with a small laugh
"Then I can say this what in the worls is wrong with you?! You can't throw yourself in front of curses for me! He could have killed you!"
"Well then he would have felt twice as bad." I said "I couldn't let him hurt you for trying to make me feel better. I'd rather it be me here than you." I said
"I object to that." he said
"Well I don't." I said just then Ginny came running through the door with Harry.
"Hermione what happened to you?!" Ginny yelled
"I'll tell you what happened Malfoy used Sectumsempra on her!' Harry yelled
"No I didn't it was your friend Weasle bee. I had went out to go to my tutoring lesson when I saw her crying in the tree. So I sat up there with her trying to make her stop but the your friend showed up and started yelling at me to get away. When I didn't he got mad and tried to use sectumsempra on me but Hermione blocked me and she got hit herself." Draco said
"Is that true?" Ginny asked
"Yes" I said
"Why would you take a hit for him?" Harry asked pointing to Draco
"Because he was trying to be nice and comfort me and Ron tried to curse him for it. I didn't know what that spell did and I was going to let Ron possibly kill Draco for being nice to me when Ron was the reason I was upset." I said
"Well I for one think it was sweet of her fo have possibly died for him." Said Madam Pomfrey who had apparently been listening. I could feel myself blushing. I could see Draco turning a little red too. I tried to act cool but it was hard with Madam Pomfrey's previous statement. There was awkward silence until Madam Pomfrey told me I was free to go. I walked out with Draco on one side and Ginny on the other and Harry on Ginny's side. By now it was lunch again and I was starving due to the fact I never got to eat breakfast. I went back up to the Gryffindor to change out of my clothes which now were covered in blood and had cuts in random spots. As I walked through the portrait into the Common Room I saw Ron waiting for me on the couch. I saw him and tried to run up to my dormitory but Ron attempted to put a full body bind on my put I had already had a hold of my wand and put up a shield. It bounced back and hit him and he fell to the floor trying to break away from the invisible ropes that held him in place.
"Hermione please. I'm sorry." he said
"Sorry doesn't cut it this time. Did you see me! I was covered in blood and cuts and you weren't even the one to take me for help." I said
"I'm telling you he's playing you!" Ron said
"No. No! NO! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO SAY THAT YOU NEARLY KILLED ME YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO SAY THAT HE'S PLAYING ME HE TOOK ME FOR HELP NOT YOU SO YOU CAN JUST SHUT UP AND LEAVE ME ALONE YOU'RE NOT MY BOYFRIEND YOUR NOT MY BROTHER AND YOU'RE NOT EVEN MY FRIEND ANYMORE!" I yelled
"You don't mean that." he said
"I DON'T MEAN THAT?! I MEAN IT AND YOU WANT TO SEE JUST HOW MUCH I MEAN IT?!" I yelled and I walked over and took his wand and snapped it right in two. "I hate you Ron Weasley. I never want to see you again." I said and walked up to my dormitory as he yelled out my name begging me to cone back. He had taken it too far this time he had hurt me beyond us being friends. I walked into my dormitory and changed my clothes and walked back downstairs i to the Common Room walked past a pleading Ron straight to the Great Hall. I sat down at the very end of the table all by myself.
