~ Chapter 58: Jackie’s Situation ~
[ Jackie’s POV: ]
“ROOOOBBBBBIIINNNN!!!!” I yelled at the top of my lungs, my face turning red as I felt my heartbeat accelerating by the second. I stumbled across my room and ran downstairs to find Robin sitting in a mess of popcorn. I abruptly stopped in front of her and eyed the couch with popcorn scattered everywhere—some on the floor—and the bowl tipped upside down next to her. She was giving me a dirty look and I raised an eyebrow. “What happened?”
She scoffed, “What happened? Your scream scared the SHIT out of me and I dropped the bowl!”
I laughed nervously. “Ha, oops.. I’m… Sorry?” And then I remembered about my situation. “BUT YOU GOTTA HELP ME!”
“Stop yelling!” she said.
“Sorry but I’m freaking out,” I yelped.
“What even happened? Did you drop your phone in the toilet again?” she asked, causing me to roll my eyes.
“That was 2 years ago,” I murmured. “But no, it’s not that. Justin asked me out on a date. A date!”
“WHAT?!” she screamed. “WHEN? WHERE?”
“Just now! I called him and he said he’s gonna pick me up at 8!”
Robin and I’s eyes widened at the same exact time and our heads bolted to the right, staring at the clock in front of us that read: 12:45pm.
“Okay so it’s almost 1, which means you have about 7 hours to get ready. That’s not enough time!” Robin yelled.
“Yes it is, calm down,” I laughed at my best friend. “We can even pull this off in 3 hours.”
“No we can’t! You need to buy new clothes, do your hair and make up, then make sure you look completely fabulous so that Justin drools a whole ocean and then asks you to have his 56 babies!”
I blinked three times, wondering if she really just said what I think she just said.
“Okay you’re freaking out about this more than I am,” I chuckled. “But I still want your advice. Should I really buy a new outfit or will the ones in my closet do?”
“It depends. Where’s the date?” she asked. “The location’s very important so you know if you need to dress up or go casual on this shit.”
“Umm.. Umm.. He said it was a surprise,” I recalled.
“A surprise? Who does he think he is?! He has to say where for times like these!” Robin yelled. “What if you wear a dress and it ends up being rock-climbing or something?!”
“Seriously calm down,” I laughed at her again before recomposing myself. “Alright so you think I should dress up?”
“Hmm… No. If it was a formal place, he’d probably let you know. Did he say something like ‘dress fancy’ or anything along those lines?”
“No, he just asked if I wanted to do something with him and when I asked him what that was he said it’s a surprise. Then I asked him what time, he said 8 o’clock and we hung up,” I explained.
“So he was pretty vague about it, which means…. Ah!” she squealed. “I got it! You should wear something casual, but that still screams sexy.”
“How about a crop top and shorts?”
Robin put on her thinking face again.
“Hmm… No,” she repeated. “It’ll be the warmest night we’ve had after all the cold tonight, so shorts is a good idea. But it might get a bit chilly later so maybe a light, cute sweater?”
“Oh my god, Robin you’re a genius!” I jumped up, attacking her with a hug. “This is why I love you!”
“Just make sure you make me your first born’s godmother,” she said casually, hugging me back.
I let out a loud laugh. “Deal!”
We then got to work.
First, we cleaned up the popcorn mess Robin did when she accidentally dropped the bowl. When everything was spotless, we moved on to the next thing.
Second, I took a long shower, making sure to thoroughly wash my hair with my best shampoo and conditioner. I then put on a bathrobe and picked out my clothes—cute shorts and a light sweater, just like Robin suggested. Except I couldn’t find a sweater I really liked, so I quickly changed and Robin and I went to the nearest mall.
Let’s just say we didn’t end up just buying that one item.
Yep, that’s right. We spent 4 hours in the mall. Typical us…
By the time we returned, it was around 6 o’clock. I then curled my hair and got started on my make up. I made sure to only eat a small sandwich throughout the day, just in case Justin planned on treating us to food during this date of ours.
Date…
I’m going on a date with Justin Bieber!!
“It’s almost 8,” Robin reminded me, watching as I put my earrings on.
“I know,” I said excitedly, my whole body shaking and I didn’t know if it was out of excitement or because I was nervous as hell.
“You need to make sure you tell me everything afterwards. How it all went… Where you guys went… If you guys fucked…”
My eyes widened. “Robin!” I scolded, smacking her.
“I’m just kidding!” she raised her hands up in defense. “Kind of…”
I rolled my eyes and left downstairs, Robin following behind me.
“Remember to have fun, okay?” I heard Robin say..
“Oh don’t worry, I will,” I shot her a smile.
When we reached the living room, we both sat down and watched television, waiting for Justin to arrive and pick me up. I had butterflies in my stomach, and I found myself glancing at the clock again and again, waiting anxiously.
Before I knew it, it was 8:00pm, and that’s when the butterflies kicked in stronger.
“He’ll be here any second now,” Robin spoke out loud.
“Shh, don’t remind me. I’m so nervous,” my voice came out shaky.
“Oh come on, it’s not like you’ve never been alone with him before, right?”
“Yeah, but just knowing this is a date is so… Ugh, I just hope it goes well.”
“Of course it’ll go well, just don’t do anything embarrassing,” she joked, and I knew she was trying to make me feel better.
But me being me, I ended up taking it seriously.
“What if I do do something embarrassing?” I asked.
“Umm..” Robin paused. “Maybe he’ll think it was cute.”
“Aw come on, no he wouldn’t,” I rolled my eyes for the billionth time.
“You did say he’s in love with you,” she shrugged. “Guys in love think everything is cute about you. That’s kinda why they’re in love with you.”
“I-I guess… I mean now that I think about it, if he did something he thought was embarrassing, I’d just think it was cute,” I admitted.
“Exactly! It’ll be a whole frenzy of you two doing and saying embarrassing things. But it’ll be okay because you’ll both think it’s cute,” she said.
I laughed out loud. “Maybe you’re right.”
And at that moment, I was glad I had Robin here to help and cheer me up.
I let out a sigh and returned my focus to the show we were watching. A while later, I checked the clock again.
8:21pm.
I slowly bit my lip.
“Um… Robin?” I called out.
“Yeah?” she turned to me.
“Do you think the fact that it’s 20 minutes after he said he’d show up is a bad sign?” I asked hesitantly.
“I’m sure he just got stuck in traffic or something,” she reassured me.
“Yeah, I guess so,” I nodded, part of me still a bit worried.
I couldn’t focus on the television show anymore. I’d look at the screen for a few seconds and then glance at the clock, repeating the process a few times.
Before I knew it, it was 45 minutes past 8 and something told me he might even be an hour late.
“Maybe something came up,” Robin said. “He is a busy pop star after all.”
“Yeah… But you’d think he’d let me know,” I whispered, my voice sounding more upset than I thought it would.
Robin gave me a sympathetic smile and grabbed my phone from the table. “Why don’t you try calling him?”
“Should I?” I asked, a bit scared to do so.
“Yeah, just do it,” she encouraged me, and I took my phone from her hands, quickly finding Justin’s number and tapping on it.
I pressed the phone to my ears and waited, only to have it go straight to voice mail.
“It took me directly to voice mail,” I sighed again.
“Maybe he broke his phone?” Robin said.
“Or he forgot about me,” I quivered.
“No, no, that can’t be it—”
“What other reason is there?” I snapped. And when Robin didn’t answer, I added, “Exactly.”
I stood up and left towards my room, slamming the door closed. I could feel the tears threatening to spill from the back of my eyes, but I told myself I wouldn’t cry over this.
Not right now.
