It's a beautiful Summer Day in Sydney and I have to travel to Los Angeles for Christmas. I pack my bags in the small apartment that I share with my cousin Maddison. Maddison looks at me from across the room. "Are you ready to go home after five years of avoiding Los Angeles?"
I roll my eyes. "I'd never be ready to go back there. Everywhere I look reminds me of my Ex-Husband."
She looks at the ground. "I'm sorry."
I shake my head. "You don't need to be." I wheel my suitcase to the door and look around the apartment checking that everything is turned off. I check my handbag for my passport and tickets.
I've got everything. Time to go home.
Madison and I wheel the suitcases over to the lift. I press the button and wait for the doors to open. When they open I see our HOT neighbour. He has blonde hair, blue eyes, muscular, tanned skin and stands at 6'3. He has a surfboard in his hands.
He smirks. "Looking good ladies. How about when you come back we get to know each other?"
I touch his arm and feel his muscles. "Sounds like a plan." I wink at him.
He pulls me towards him and smashes his lips against mine.
I drop the suitcase and it hits my foot.
Ah, shit. My foot is killing me.
The guy's tongue enters my mouth and he deepens the kiss.
Maddison clears her throat. "Alexis, we are going to miss the plane if you keep playing tonsil hockey with the hot guy."
I pull away from him.
His blue eyes light up. "See you around, beautiful." He turns away and heads towards his door. He puts the board against the wall. He turns to me. "My name is Logan."
I wink at him. "See you soon, Logan."
Maddison pulls me into the lift and the door closes.
Maddison and I walk onto the plane. I put my stuff in the overhead compartment and I sit next to the window. Maddison plops down next to me. "What kind of movies do you think they are playing on this plane? I hope it's nothing I've seen before."
I shrug. "I'm sure you'll find something to watch." I put my seatbelt on and look out the window. I watch the luggage gets put onto the plane.
The pilot's voice comes over the intercom. He tells us that it's time to go over the safety procedures. I look at the flight attendant and she points to the emergency exit and then she demonstrates how to put on the life jackets. The video on the screen shows us where we can find out life jackets in case of an emergency. After the demonstration, the flight attendants walk down the aisles making sure everyone's seatbelts are on before they make their way to their seats.
The plane moves down the runway and then it picks up speed and lifts off the ground. I hold onto the armrest as it takes off.
I look out the window and watch Sydney get smaller as the plane evens out. I close my eyes.
*Flashback*
Colter walked into the house with a dozen roses. "Happy 1st Wedding Anniversary, baby."
I smile. "Thanks, honey." I ran over to him and flung my arms around him.
He put the roses on the table and he lifted me up.
I wrapped my legs around him and he carried me to the bedroom.
*End Flashback*
I open my eyes and groan.
Maddison looks at me. "What's wrong?"
I shake my head. "Every time I close my eyes I see my Ex-Husband." I sigh. "I just dreamed of our first anniversary."
She laughs. "You're still in love with him. I hope you give him hell when you see him next."
Oh, I plan to.
Maddison opens some app on her phone and she types in Colter Kingsman into it. She gives me the phone. "This is everything you need to know about your Ex-Husband, since, you left him."
I look at the phone.
Colter Kingsman
Colter Kingsman is single after he divorced his wife Alexis Martin two years ago. No one has seen the Ex-Wife around and rumour has it she has died.
When we asked Colter he replied. "I don't know if it's true. One morning I woke up and she was gone. Her family don't talk to me. If you want to know something go to them."
I'm alive.
I skim the rest of the article and I stop when I come across the part that says his company is in liquidation.
I need to save the company.
I call my Lawyers in Los Angeles from the lane phone.
Female: Hello, Douglas and Cole Law firm. This is Marj.
Me: Hey, Marj. It's Alexis Martin is Cain Douglas there?
Marj: I'll put you through, Miss Martin.
I wait a couple of minutes until Cain picks up the phone.
Cain: This is Cain.
Me: It's Alexis. I need you to put my money into Kingsman Inc.
Cain: Why would you want to do that?
Me: I want to save a lot of people their job. Also, I need you to put it in anonymously.
Cain: When do you want this done?
Me: Right away. I can't wait.
Cain: I'll get onto it right away. Can you come in tomorrow?
Me: Yes, I'll see you then.
I put my phone away and look out the window.
Maddison pokes me. "Did you do that?"
I smile. "Yeah, looks like I'll be moving back to Los Angeles for good. All I have to do now is apply for a job in Kingsman Inc. as a secretary and then my plan will be a success."
Maddison passes me her iPad and I fill out the application form and send my resume to the company.
Everything is in the hands of the HR department.
I look out the window.
*Flashback*
Colter came home late from work. He had lipstick on the collar of his shirt and his lips were tinted red. "I don't love you anymore, Lexi. You need to leave and forget that we were ever married and together. I have." He picks up an overnight bag and walks out the door.
I spent all night crying. The next morning while he was at work I packed my bags and moved to Sydney with my cousin where I got a fresh start.
