Dan's P.O.V.

I was swearing underneath my breath, cradling Jay close to my chest. She was letting out little whines of pain and was holding her hands over her stomach, leaning her full body weight on me with her eyes closed in pain.

I was whispering comforting words into her ear, hearing Phil clattering down the stairs after gathering a few things from upstairs to take with us to the hospital. I had flicked a quick text to Officer Briny to tell him that Jay had gone into labour, and he had already texted back saying he would meet us in the hospital.

I was worried, Jay was only 7 and a half months pregnant and we weren't expecting the baby to arrive for another month and a half, but I suppose that it was what it was, and if the baby was coming now then so be it.

"Dan let's go." Phil was standing in the doorway with a backpack in hand, with everything Jay would need and few little things that he or I would need. I handed him my phone and Jay's phone and then scooped Jay into my arms, wrapping a blanket around her shoulders and carrying her to the car.

She immediately wrapped her hands around my shoulders and buried her head in my neck, trying really hard not to cry. I kept whispering to her, hoping to keep her calm until we got to the hospital where she would be put under anaesthetic and have a C-section.

I drove like a maniac to the hospital, trying to avoid the snow and ice on the road, Phil curled up with Jay in the backseat. It was honestly a miracle that we weren't stopped by the police on the way to the hospital but I was glad that we weren't, as Jay was clinging to Phil with all her strength and tears were falling from her eyes. It was also a bit of a miracle that we didn't crash on the slippery road because of the ice, but we made it safely.

As soon as we arrived at the hospital Phil and I bundled Jay inside and were rushed at once into a different room, where Jay was given some light pain medication. A nurse had told us that Jay would be taken in for surgery in less than half an hour.

Jay was curled up on her bed, myself tucked in beside her and squeezing her hand as she tried to control her breathing through the pain.

"Easy Jay, it's gonna be okay, it's gonna be okay." I could tell she was scared and kept herself close to me, curling into a little ball into my chest. Phil was sat on a chair beside the bed, running his hand up and down my arm in comfort while we waited.

Somehow we all managed to keep our cool for the half an hour we had to wait and when the nurse came back both Phil and I breathed a sigh of relief. Jay was taken into an operating theatre with Phil and I following, holding hands and almost shaking with nerves, where we were told what would happen.

"We're going to put her under anaesthetic now and then do the C-section, it shouldn't take long, maybe 45 minutes top to deliver the baby and stitch up all of the incisions." Phil nodded, glancing down at Jay. "Because she's so young we don't have any choice other than to put her to sleep, normally the mother would be awake during the C-section."

Phil was squeezing my hand as I leaned down to give Jay a kiss on her forehead and she reached up and took my hand, her face contorted in pain. She was trying as hard as she could to keep her breathing steady but she was looking a little panicked, so I leaned down.

"It'll be okay, we're here okay." Phil crouched down beside me too, his hand going onto Jay's shoulder as she curled herself up into a ball. A nurse went around to the other side of the bed holding a mask, which she placed over Jay's nose and mouth, the gas going through it to put her to sleep.

It took less than 10 seconds for her eyes to slide closed and her hand went limp in mine, her head falling back onto the pillow. I sighed and gave her forehead one last kiss before standing up with Phil beside me, our hands still intertwined and my head resting on his shoulder.

We were both nervous and as a nurse led us out of the room I looked down to see Phil's arms shaking, sinking his legs into his lip and almost drawing blood. I squeezed his hand tightly, reassuring him as much as I could, but I was nervous myself and wasn't sure what would happen.

We were taken to a room similar to the one Jay had spent a month and a half in, this time without the bed, and were told to wait. The nurse said she would come and get us when Jay was out.

"Phil I'm scared." His eyes met mine, wide, and his face pale.

"I know, I am too. We weren't quite ready, were we?" I shook my head. I had thought we would have another month and a half to prepare, but it seemed the world was against us in that regard.

"What do we do?" He squeezed my hands, resting his chin on the top of my head as I leaned down.

"We wait and hope for the best."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Dan?" I felt a gentle hand on my cheek. "Wake up bear, Jay's here." I squinted my eyes, feeling a heavy material around my shoulders.

Looking around, I saw that the room had darkened and it seem significantly smaller than it had been before, meaning there was now a bed in the room. As my eyes focused I noticed that yes, the bed was there, and Jay was in it, eyes still closed and body limp.

"Hey bear." I looked up and saw Phil, his phone in hand. "Everything's okay."

I sat up a little, stretching out my arms and sitting back down on the plastic chair, my eyes going to Jay. She was unconscious on the bed, an I.V. in her arm and her hair brushed to the side but she looked like the person I had seen just an hour ago.

"The nurse is going to come and talk to us." All at once my stomach dropped. Where was the baby? Phil must have noticed my sudden change in mood, because he squeezed my hand.

"It's okay, Phoenix is fine. He's in NICU at the moment, but we can go and see him soon."

I let out a tiny sigh of relief.

"Oh thank god."
