If I had a dollar for every time Jasmine smirked at me yesterday, I'd be rich!

When Mason or Jake acted...strange, she would be the first one to point it out. We all went over to Mike's house afterwards. It was my idea cause I wasn't ready to face my mum or father yet. Not until the day we leave; I just want them to realize that I'd rather go without them. I love my mum but she agreed to this which means she's on Joseph's side.

I ended up sleeping at Mike's house along with Jasmine and Jake, but Mason had to leave. His father was getting worried about him. If only my father texted me, concerned. The rest of the night Jake and Mike were acting weird. Whenever I said something to them their answer was something like " yeah" and "probably". It bugged the crap out of me.

I arrived at my house a little while ago since Jasmine Mike and I went out to get some breakfast. Jake could've joined but instead went home. Mike explained that he wasn't feeling well but I knew something else was bothering him and that something bothered me too. Anyways, I am at the river right now since,(like I said before) I can't be in that house right now. This time I didn't bring my journal. I thought out loud.

Unfortunately, I was interrupted by a noise coming from behind the tree that the tire swing was hanging on.

"Who's there?" I panicked a little.

"Sorry did I sneak up on you?" Caden replied.

"Oh, hey Caden." I smiled." No your fine," I added.

"Mum and dad are fighting," he said with a angry but shaky voice.

"Already?" I widened my eyes.

"Have you met them? They are complete opposites!" He chuckled a bit.

"Is he still going on the trip with us?" I asked, hoping the answer was no.

"He says he is but don't get your hopes up."

"Trust me, he is the last person I want on this trip," I stated.

"So...who's Mason? Mum told me you were taking him," he smiled, and my heart skipped a beat hearing his name.

Why???

"He's a friend of mine who's free for three weeks," I smiled.

"Only a friend?" Raising his eyebrow.

"Why does everyone keep asking me that?" I threw my arms up in defeat.

"Because whenever someone says his name, your face beams with joy. He must make you happy, if just by saying his name, you get excited," he assured.

"I promise, we are best friends, nothing more," I quoted since that's what Mason said yesterday.

"Sis, I don't care if you like him, as long you're happy with him.Life has a funny way of working out just when you start to believe it never will," he stated, staring at me.

"Thanks big bro. Besides, when did you get so wise?" I laughed.

"I actually haven't talked to you for a while so you wouldn't know," he shrugged.

"Sorry I haven't been around for a while, I had a lot going on." I replied, remembering everything that happened with Payton.

"It's no big deal, I am not innocent either. Your room is literally opposite mine," he laughed. "Do you wanna go swimming?" His eyes sparked, this always happens when he has a stupid idea.

"In the river?" I question, raising my brow.

"Nooooooo, in the grass," he said sarcastically.

"Let me get changed."I smiled and ran up the pebble path.

Once I opened the back door, I was welcomed with screaming coming from upstairs. I groaned and made my way up the stairs. Apparently, they always fought when I was little, that's what Caden told me. He said that once I hid in a corner when the police had to come because of the noise.

It wasn't long after that when my parents got a divorce and parted ways.Well Joseph definitely parted ways. After changing into my suit, I made my way to mothers room. I know eavesdropping is wrong but arguing in front of your kids is wrong too.

"Why did you come back?" I froze, staring straight at him.

"I told you a million times, I missed my family!"

"So what? You never missed you family for the past fourteen years?"

"I didn't think you guys would want to see me!" He yelled, with pain in his voice.

"And what makes you think we'd like to see you now?"

"Everything just fell into place!" He explained, rubbing his head.

"That's great, for you!"

Before I could hear another word that came out of their mouths, I walked back outside and down the pebble path. Caden was already by the river and I sat down on the tire swing and dove into the clear water. I was never the type to get 'used to the water'. It just wastes time of swimming and if you want to get used to the water, dipping your toes in won't help.

I came up for air and saw Caden cannonball right next to me, making me laugh when all the water splashed onto my face. After we jumped in about twenty more times, we just decided to talk. It felt nice to talk to someone who is in the same predicament I am in.

We are related, we should be best friends. He should be my ride or die bother. Not a stranger, it's not the way to treat your sibling. Because when you grow older and realize you are all alone since your sibling left, you will feel terrible for not being there for them. Cause now their family will be more important than anything.Spending the afternoon talking to my brother by blood, made me feel comfortable and safe from every piece of drama I had to deal with this month.

"How are you and Casey doing?"

"She is great and I cannot wait until Thursday for the trip with her," he smiled, clearly showing how much he cares about her.

"You have been dating for how long now?"

"Two weeks, but she's amazing. She lights my world up and she's just soo beautiful," he gushed.

"You sound in like your in love," I replied.

"I don't know what it feels like to be in love so I wouldn't know. But she is very special to me and I cannot see my future without her," he blushed.

"I am glad you two are together, you make each other soo happy, " I smiled, fiddling with my hair.

"Thanks little sis. She coming back from her family trip today and I'm picking her up in a hour."

"You better start drying off then," I smirked as he got out the water.

"Thank for the afternoon," Caden added, walking up the pebble path.

"Enjoy the company," he screamed. Confused I swam to the other side of the river and Jake came into view.

"Hey Jake, what are you doing here?"

"I heard about your dad," he explained, sitting on the edge of the bank.

"Who told you?" I was getting a bit angry now.

"Payton texted me about it the day I broke up with her, I think she thought that I would go back with her," he sighed.

"I knew she would would've told you but you would've found out sooner or later anyway." I rolled my eyes.

"Why did you not tell me?" He questioned me with a disappointing look.

"I just... I just didn't want the pity of others," I stuttered.

"Bella, I am one of your best friends, you can tell me anything. Never feel like you can't tell me things, I am always going to be here for you." he said smiling at me.

Best friends.

"Thank you...for everything."

"What are friends for?" he responded, taking his shirt and pants off.

"Oh jeez," I mumbled, turning away.

"Cannonball!" He screamed, jumping into the river.

"Welcome to the river," I laughed, swimming over to him.

"Glad to be here," he smirked, picking me up.

"Let me down," I screeched, laughing.

"As you wish," he replied, throwing me into the water.

"Oh it's on," I threatened, hopping onto his back and tackling him into the water.

"You can never take me down," he evilly laughed.

"Watch me," I smirked and hopped onto his back again.
