(A week later)
"Do I look nice, and not like a walking trash bag?" I ask Sadie who was helping me get ready for Finn and I's first real date
"You look like a walking rose darling" she said looking away from her work at me for a split second
I let out a breath "thank you" I looked in the mirror and straightened out my red dress, it was a tight dress and ended right above my knees, grace had lent it to me for the night
"Ok I'm gonna go wait outside, love you" I say as I walk out the door
"Love you tooooo" she said back
I walked outside and waited in the small garden that separates the girls and the boys dorms
Minutes passed so I sat down on a bench and scrolled through my phone, sooner or later I felt a tap on my shoulder
"Hey princess" Finn said as I stood up
He was wearing a button down grey shirt with his everyday black jeans
"Hi" I kissed him, it was short but sweet
"You look very, very nice" he said tucking a strand of hair behind my ear
"Thanks, I had to borrow this from grace since I don't have any dresses" I giggled as we walked towards the student parking lot
When we got to his car he opened the door for me, the went over to his side
He wasn't talking much so I knew he was nervous
"You okay?" I smiled
"Yeah yeah, oh uh-" he turned around to get something from the backseat
He handed me a bouquet of roses with little papers hanging from each one
"I wrote little things that would make you happy if you're ever sad, and attached one to each rose" he smiled
My face lit up, I loved when he made thoughtful things like this for me and my friends, "Thanks Finn, I love when you do cute stuff like this" I smelled the roses

We pulled up next to the restaurant and we both looked at it, it looked really nice. Like too nice, for two high schoolers.
"you sure we want to go here, I mean I would be fine just going to the diner" I offered, wishing that he wanted to go to the diner too.
"I was hoping you would say that, he laughed out, I giggled too, slightly relieved we didn't have to go there

"We will have one plate of nachos with everything on it and two chocolate milkshakes" Finn ordered
"Okay kids, it'll be right out" she winked and went to go take somebody else's order
"Gosh haven't been here in so long" I said looking around the old diner at all the small details, like the red frames engraved with little patterns, outlining each photograph on the wall, the red matched the booth seats perfectly, and my dress.
"Yeah we used to come here everyday of the summer with Sadie and Noah, then walk back to school. That was like what? freshmen year?" he said studying the old diner like I was
"Yeah, that was perfect" I said sighing, I wished that I still could be that happy.. but I hadn't been for a while. Finn took my hand that was laying on the table, "you are perfect, I love yo-"
Finn's phone started ringing
He took it out of his pocket and looked confused
"What, who is it?" I asked
"I-I don't know" he said
"Answer, who knows might be important or something" I suggested squeezing the hand that still laid in mine
He answered
"Hello?" He paused listening to the person on the other side of the line, his confused expression turned into a blank, stiff one. He took his hand away from mine. I heard the the person talking fast and low
"Who is this?" He asked blankly
The person spoke again in a low grumbling voice
"Who is this?!" He yelled, his eyes started welling with tears. His face tensed up then loosened back to the blank expression
My mouth hung open, people started looking towards us as the person's voice on the other line got slower.
He hung up, and stared at nothing tears rolling out of his eyes
"W-what? Who? Was that?" I asked as I went to sit next to him in his booth
"M-my, my parents" he paused and turned his head towards me, his eyes were Lifeless almost grey. I put my hand up to his face wiping away his tears
"What, Finn? What?" I asked starting to feel worried
"They're.. dead" he kept his expression
"What?" I felt tears start to brew in my eyes, Finn parents were like my second parents... yeah they weren't around a lot, but when they were they were always so kind and understanding. I remembered all the memories, they were like flashes in my mind.
I started sobbing as I turned so I was facing forward, the way Finn was now facing as well.
I sat crying my eyes out while finn just sat there, faint. He almost looked empty.
We sat there, until our food came, then kept sitting while our food got cold.
"I'm not hungry" Finn let out his voice slightly cracking
I turned to him
"I'll pay and you can bring it back to your dorm and eat it when you are hungry, okay?" I asked forcing a smile, I felt the layer of dried tears crack on my hot cheeks.
I didn't get a response, I went up to the cash register apologized and paid for the uneaten meal
"L-let's go" I put my hand on his shoulder then grabbed the food that I had bagged up.
He nodded and got out of the booth, we walked out of the diner and got into the car
Where we sat, for a while
"I want to go home" he said in a low tone
"Yea let's go, I'll make some tea and you can sleep in my dorm if you wa-"
"No, real home." He cut me off as he started the car
"I could walk back to school, and you can spend a night at your house if you want" I smiled opening the door of the car
"Wait"
I stopped
"Come with me"
I closed the door and sat back in my seat
"Okay" I said
We drove all the way to Finn's house, he lived on the other side of town, so it was a while.

"If you look through my drawers you can probably find something" I sighed out
She nodded, I felt bad, that she had to be there when I found out, I also hated that she saw me like that so I thought I would try and look strong but I wasn't at all. It took everything I had to not cry in front of her.
"I'm gonna go get some water" I said blankly
I walked out of my childhood room and into the hall, i looked towards the kitchen then, I looked at the door. The door that I would run into if I had a bad nightmare, or wanted to have a movie night or just wanted to hear a story. My stomach flopped as I started walking towards the door
I turned the knob and pushed the door open, it was the same, exactly the same. I smiled and walked over the the king sized bed. I fell onto it and took in the smell, the smell of my dead parents, god how I miss that damn smell. They might have been dead but their smell was very much alive.
I laid there and started crying, the hardest I've ever cried.
"Why did you fucking leave me!" I yelled into a pillow
I sobbed and choked on my own tears
"Finn?" I heard Millie's voice, I didn't turn around because I didn't want her to see me like this, I just kept my face burrowed in my pillow trying to silence my non stop cries.
I heard her walk towards the bed and get on it
"Millie, go away" I said hesitantly, I wanted her to stay, I wanted to wrap my arms around her, but I didn't want her to see me in this state
"You really want me to leave?" She asked
I wanted to say no, so bad
"Ye-"
"Well I'm staying, weather you like it or not, because you need someone right now. And I'm gonna be that someone for you, just like you would be for me" she said as she walked over to the other side of the bed so she could see my face
She had changed into sweatpants and an old shirt of mine. I didn't say anything, I just lifted my arm up inviting her to lay down next to me
She got on to the bed again and laid her head right under my chin.
the smell of my parents and my childhood faded away and was replaced with her sweet and safe sent
And I've known ever since then, she was the one I would spend my life with.
