A/N: This is my first attempt at writing a song fic, so please forgive me. The song and plot were requested by a friend of mine, I know this story is pretty bad, so if you guys have any tips, let me know!
*The timeline kinda jumps forward quite a bit towards the last half. I apologize if you guys don't like that.*

The put downs and screaming become too much. A ceramic bowl goes airborne, just barely missing (Y/n)'s head. She doesn't scream; all the abuse - verbal and physical - had broken her long ago. (Y/n) ducks and sidesteps as more tableware are being flung at her.
"You monster," screams her father as he hurls a handful of forks. The eating utensils hit and shatter the kitchen window, but anger and fear blinds the man. He continues his assault, a bottle of whiskey in hand as he growls out insult after insult. "I regret ever agreeing to having a child! You've made our lives miserable! All you do is eat and sleep, draining away the money that we earn! Never once have you ever thanked us!"
Even though it is only her mother who works to support the household, (Y/n)'s father takes full credit each time the subject is brought up. Despite being a alcoholic with a temper, (Y/n)'s mother does nothing to stop her husband from hurting their daughter. She shares the same, small minded views has him. The only difference is that her father shows his dislike while her mother stands back and watches.
All of (Y/n)'s pent up emotions threaten to burst. She can no longer stand back and allow for her parents to push her around. The idea of using her magic against her father is extremely tempting, but as much as she despises him, (Y/n) cannot bring herself to harm him. Instead, she leaves.
The snow blows white on the mountain tonight

The wind is howling like the swirling storm inside

With nothing but the clothes on her back, (Y/n) runs off into the mountains. Around her, soft flakes of snow swirl around her in a blizzard. Every step into the snow becomes covered in a fresh layer, leaving no traces of her whereabouts. The the storm seems to follow and, as if the frozen crystals are sentient, gain more strength as (Y/n)'s anger boils. Her emotions channeling into the weather around her surprises (Y/n).

Well now they know
In her mind, (Y/n) is conflicted. She wants to hide away herself, her emotions, and go back to town, apologize to her father, and return back to the life she had, but that is not an option. Her father would simply hurt her even further.
"Maybe he'll see you as a good girl," she tries to convince herself, though her thoughts would never become a reality.

After hours of sulking in the shelter of an old, withering tree trunk, (Y/n) makes the decision to continue her journey up the mountains, into the unknown. Her feet grow tired from trudging through the snow, but she puts up with the conditions, keeping an image of future happiness in mind.
Much to (Y/n)'s surprise, at the top of the mountain is a quaint, small cabin hidden behind a large pine tree. Smoke is wafting into the crisp, winter air, telling the young girl that the cabin's inhabitants are home. Her spirits lift. Running with what little energy she has left, (Y/n) makes her way to the entrance and raises her hand to knock. Before she can, (Y/n)'s body intervenes. The sprint up to the cabin wore her out and her body shuts down to recover, leaving the young girl to pass out. The owner of the cabin, Ul, hears a thump at the door and opens it to find (Y/n) unconscious and freezing. She carries her in and has her two pupils, Lyon and Gray, assist. Gray grabs warm blankets while Lyon watches over the girl as Ul prepares a bed to rest her in.
"She's not that cold," Lyon comments, only to be pushed aside by his peer, who places his own hand on (Y/n)'s forehead.
"No she's not, you idiot! You're so used to the cold, you can't even tell that she's cold enough to be a popsicle."
"Why you-"
Ul silences the boy's when she returns. She places (Y/n) into the bed and wraps her in 3 layers of blankets. When her temperature fails to raise, Ul climbs into the bed and hugs the child to her chest in hopes of speeding the process up with her own body heat.
While clutching (Y/n)'s bundled up form, the woman notices a handful of bruises peeking out from underneath the material.
"What happened you, sweetie.."

Waking up in an unknown room scares (Y/n). She panics, diving under the sheets for some form of protection when she hears footsteps approaching. During her frantic dive, she accidentally hits a bruise, causing a loud whine to resonate across the room.
"I'm not going to hurt you, sweetie," a calm voice assures. "My name is Ul. I found you in front of the cabin last night."
Popping her head out, (Y/n) answers back with her name and a reason as to why she was at Ul's doorstep. "I ran away from home... My father hates me because I'm different. Whenever I accidentally used ice magic in front of him, he would throw things at me..."
"Oh?" Ul is surprised and shocked, but remains levelheaded for (Y/n). "Well, would you like to stay here with me and my students? They're nice boys. You can learn alongside them."
"Okay." (Y/n) nods her head excitedly. The thought of training with other kids just like her warms her heart. She no longer needs to hide her true self.

Learning under Ul's guidance makes (Y/n) happy. She finds herself changing. No longer is she the shy, quiet girl subjected to assault from those who hate her for her abilities; the fear of being scolded for using magic no longer dictates her actions. Now, she can live as the bold, strong girl she wants to be.
Up in the snowy mountains, with Ul, Lyon, and Gray, (Y/n) is free and unfettered.

The demon ruined the kids' lives and ended Ul's. With no adult to turn to for guidance, the boys getting into an argument that melts away their friendship, Lyon runs off on his own and leaves his Gray and (Y/n) behind. The two decide to stick together. Their relationship is more than simply friends, but being so young, they are oblivious.
"Let's go," Gray announces, holding out an open hand to his best friend, who takes it and allows herself to follow Gray into the unknown future.

They find a guild named "Fairy Tail." (Y/n) is unsure, but seeing all the guild's members interacting together, chattering away with infinite happiness, is enough to convince her. The young guild master stamps the Fairy Tail insignia onto the two's skin and introduces them as official family members.
Standing frozen, in the life I've chosen

Occasionally, (Y/n) wonders if her past will catch up to her and haunt her. She is an now adult who can handle herself in the most dangerous of situations, but just the thought of her father's hurtful words breaks her down into tears. Gray stands by (Y/n)'s side and comforts her, providing assurance that if such an event should occur, they will face it together.
(Y/n) realizes that with her strengthened magic, combined with her powerful lover's, nothing and no one can put her down.
"Thank you, Gray," she whispers. "I am the strongest when you're by my side."

With a wailing baby in one arm and a towel covered in saliva wrapped around the other, (Y/n) rushes to the door, which is being hit repeatedly by an impatient visitor on the other side. Gray is not due to return for another two hours, so (Y/n) remains cautious as she pulls open the door by a fraction. The man waiting outside her doorstep is someone who she hoped had forgotten all about her.
""(G/n)," she growls, venom lacing her voice as she keeps a leg against the door in case he plans to push the barrier open even further. "What are you doing here? How did you find this place?"
"Oh, I have my ways," he replies, his tone reciprocating his daughter's. "Now that I've found you, it's time you come back. Your mother and I miss you."
No matter how believable her father tries to make his story seem, (Y/n) can see right through him. (G/n) always has an underlying motive. Besides, why would her parents miss her? All her life, they hated her and did everything in their power to make their thoughts about her painfully obvious.
"Huh," (Y/n) huffs," yeah right. Like I'd ever believe a word that leaves your mouth. Just leave. You're wasting your time. Why don't you go get drunk like always? It's what you do best."
"I will not accept that attitude from you, you insolent girl! I-"
I suggest you back away and leave immediately, old man," a familiar voice warns.
Turning to face the challenger, (G/n) whips his head around to see two men in a relaxed stance, though their facial expressions say otherwise. The older man eyes the two younger men before him. He does not recognize either of them.

"Says who!"
"That's none of your business," interrupts the white-haired male, a smirk playing on his lips. "We'll only say it once more: Leave."
"Well, well... it seems you've been busy, girl," (G/n) spits, baring his poorly-kept teeth while nodding his head towards the two before him. "One not enough to keep you happy? Still an attention hoarder I see."
"Heh, yeah right," the white-haired male butts in once again. "I can never see myself being with (Y/n), no offense (Y/n). Besides, I have my own lover back home."
"Anyways," the dark-haired male coughs awkwardly, hands shifting from his pockets to cross his arms across his chest. "We will be forcing you to leave if you don't do so yourself. I'm pretty sure (Y/n) is willing to assist."
In unison, Gray and Lyon move to a battle stance, a cold fog pooling around their hands. (G/n)'s eyes widen. He backs away, only to hit a wall. Whimpers of fear slip out as he watches the two ice mages form spears of solid ice. Another hissing sound causes the man to jump, turning to the source and whimpering even more when he realizes his daughter is holding long sword of ice with a baby propped up on her hip.
"Y-Your..."
"Leave."

Gray and (Y/n) sit with their best friend as they watch (S/n) stack s pile of teetering blocks, a smile stretching across his chubby face. The three ice mages reminisce on the events that took place not too long ago.
"He was so scared!" Lyon laughs so hard he rolls off the couch, catching the attention of the young child before him, who babbles and giggles while clapping his hands.
"Yes, he was. Mostly thanks to you two."
"We're always here to help," Gray assures.
With (G/n) out of the picture for good, (Y/n) can live a happy life without having to be worried about her past. She can finally let it all go.
