She hadn't seen him in months, she was pretty sure it was a year. But somehow she had ended up in his village, that's where they were being held. Cassie had managed to get in before they sealed off the place, she had seen what they had done out there. Cassie wondered if he was dead, she hadn't gotten chance to go and see him. Cassie was made to stay in the house, her father, Arthur, he was paranoid about the soldiers.
She could sneak out but she didn't know if it would be worth it. He might not be there. Arthur had seen Nick once or twice, Cassie thought it wouldn't be enough for him to remember Nick. Arthur did remember how Nick acted, he didn't approve.
"Cassie where are you?" Arthur asked, panicked as he ran around the house.
"I'm here" she said, coming down the stairs, "what's going on?" She asked, she looked at him worriedly, had something happened?
"I wanted to know where you were" he replied, "there's a meeting, we should go listen." Cassie nodded. She was worried about him, he hadn't seen him talk to anyone else, he was always sneaking around. If he didn't stop, he might get killed and that's what worried Cassie.
She didn't listen to anything they were saying, she was scanning the faces. He's gotta be here, she kept repeating in her head and she looked around, then she saw Travis, then Alicia. She let out a laugh. But was he here? She thought. Arthur looked at her and frowned, but thought nothing of it.
"Alicia!" Cassie repeated as she pushed through the crowd to her.
"Cassie! Your- where have you been?" Alicia asked, happily.
"With my dad..." Cassie trailed off and Alicia understood, she was the person who Cassie had gone to about him. She had never told Nick, she didn't know what he would do. "We managed to get in before they sealed it all off" Cassie explained.
"I'm glad you're safe, really I am" Alicia said, then added, "you should come over later-"
"I don't think she will" Arthur said. Cassie closed her eyes and held them shut for a moment, then let out a long breath.
"You're invited too Mr Phoenix" Maddison said, smiling. Maddison wanted and needed Nick to see Cassie, that's the only person he talked about. "We could all wear something nice and have a lovely meal" Maddison added, Alicia and Cassie looked at each other they were both thinking the same thing. Now wasn't the time to play happy families.
"Well, I suppose" Arthur sighed, he seen Cassie's face and after the meeting he realised that he had kept her hidden away in the house.
The day went slower that when Cassie stayed inside for days. She wanted to find something nice to wear, but none of the clothes in the house were hers and she felt guilty for taking them.
Cassie opened the wardrobe and saw a dress with diamonds over the chest. She picked it up, it wasn't really her but the others defiantly weren't. Cassie thought there was no harm in trying it on to see how it looked. That's when the power flickered on and she saw some curlers. "I guess it wouldn't hurt" She mumbled to herself and switched them on, letting them heat up while she put the dress on. Cassie spotted some unused make up and decided to help herself, "well you aren't going to need them" she mumbled, she often talked to herself.
As she was curling her hair she sighed, what was she doing? There was no way Nick was going to dress up and even if he did- who was she kidding, he wouldn't. Cassie hated the fact that he dad was going to be there... she wouldn't be able to hold Nick in her arms all night...
"Dad? Dad- oh come on you could at least put on a suit" Cassie sighed as she looked at Arthur in a tracksuit.
"Why?"
"To set a good impression, better that the one your giving off now" Cassie said, motioning towards him. Arthur huffed and went back into the room to change. Sometimes it was like Cassie was the adult, if Arthur didn't want to do something, he wouldn't. She hoped after all this he wouldn't recognise Nick.
"This looks stupid" Arthur huffed.
"No it doesn't, Dad. It looks nice... looks normal..." Cassie trailed off. Then she cleared her throat, "Dad, I really want to make this work here, Alicia's- I haven't seen them in a long time and-"
"You don't want me to ruin it" Arthur cut her off, but he understood where she was coming from. He had made most of her decisions for her, forgetting that she wasn't a little girl anymore. "I will try my best" Arthur smiled.
Cassie smiled back and nodded, "I'll meet you downstairs" she said.
"Cassandra" Arthur said, making Cassie turn around, "you look just like your mother." He smiled sadly.
"Thanks dad..." she trailed off as tears formed in her eyes and turned away from him.
"Please don't call me that though" she laughed, just trying to lift the mood and turned to him. They both forced a smile.
Maddison and Alicia wanted Nick to try but he didn't want to. Alicia walked into the front room, where Nick was lying on the sofa and said "can you please try and act-"
"Less like a drug addict?" Nick suggested. Alicia just stared at him, "yes, okay" he said.
"Okay" Alicia said, just as there was a knock on the door. Nick looked in the direction of the door and then he noticed everyone dressed up, as if going to prom. "Nick get up" Alicia said, hitting his arm, "Trust me, your going to want to." She added. Nick didn't listen, of course. He stayed where he was, he wondered why Alicia wanted to act 'normal'.
Cassie let out a breath and walked into the kitchen, behind Arthur, she didn't want to walk in first, she wanted to hide her face as much as possible. "Cassie, you look beautiful!" Maddison beamed.
"Thanks, you two" Cassie replied quietly. Nick could hear talking and he swore o himself that he knew that voice, he didn't trust himself anymore, he had been hearing her voice since he left. Cassie looked to Alicia, who was just as dressed up as her. They looked each other up and down and then laughed. "You look ridiculous!" Cassie joked, laughing. She was really laughing, she hadn't done that in a while and Arthur was a little chocked up for a moment.
"So do you!" Alicia laughed, Maddison was feeling the same thing Arthur was. Alicia never laughed anymore. She hoped Cassie would have the same effect on Nick. Nick huffed and went upstairs, Cassie was too busy laughing. If she wasn't she would have been able to hear him. "Wait wait" Alicia laughed, then proceeded to mimic Cassie, "Hello, my name's Cassandra Phoenix" Alicia mocked in a posh voice. Nick heard her name. The sound of her name made him freeze.
"I don't sound like that" Cassie said, smiling. Her smile faded as she seen Nick appear from around the corner.

It was fair to say that Cassie didn't want to go home that evening, she wanted to be with Nick, but she couldn't. She had to leave but it wouldn't be long before she would see Nick again. "He was nice" Arthur said to her. She snapped her head up from looking at her hands. Arthur moved to sit next to her on the sofa. "Or isn't he your type?" Arthur asked, he was trying hard to have the conversation that he knew her mother would be having with her. If she was still here.
"Yeah I suppose he is" Cassie said, smiling to herself. "I hadn't realised how much I had missed them" she sighed and tried to laugh it off.
"Mum would have liked Nick, he's a lovely young man" Arthur said, "But that doesn't mean you can start having sleep overs with him" Arthur changed the tone as he could see Cassie's face change. Cassie laughed, but she was still upset. Arthur placed a hand on hers and squeezed it before getting up and going to bed.
Cassie sat there, just watching the flame of the candle move. Then there was a light knock on the door. Normally she wouldn't answer the door at night but the rules had all changed in the new world. She rubbed her eyes as she walked to the door. Once she reached it she opened it. "Hello, Cassandra" Nick whispered softly
Cassie stood there for a moment. "Could I come in, the soldiers are on their rounds?"
"Yeah, sure, okay" Cassie said, opening the door, "You'll have to be quiet" She said, but she didn't need to explain why. Nick went straight into the living room and sat down on the sofa. Cassie followed behind once she had shut the front door, she stood in front of him. "So... how are you?" She asked.
"Cassandra-"
"Please don't call me that" Cassie said. "Where were you? Where did you go? Nick..."
Nick looked up at her, it shattered his heart to see the look on her face, he should of never left for as long as he had. Her facial expression shown that she had already seen too much.
"I'm sorry, Cassandra" Nick breathed, looking up at her. Cassie crossed her arms, she didn't want to let her barrier down. "I shouldn't have left you, I know that and I will protect you... I'm better now" Nick said softly again, never breaking eye contact. Cassie sighed and sat down next to him, nodding. "Where's your mom? Why wasn't she at dinner?" Nick asked. Cassie looked away from him. He pulled her into a hug, she tried to resist at first but then relaxed, "Cassandra, I'm sorry" He repeated, he guessed what had happened, he knew Cassie's mother was sick from the first day he had met her.
Thanks for reading! I've added a load of gifs because this could have been better, I'm sorry. It's not the worst but it could be a whole lot better, but thank you for reading anyway. Also had no idea what to call it...
