There's a small snippet of Peeta's POV, but I'm going to switch it to Katniss's after a few paragraphs.

Peeta (One day earlier)

When I wake up, my whole body aches. I don't remember anything that happened. I have no idea where I am.

A person dressed in white clothing walks into my room. I tense up. My brain starts to get cloudy and I feel alarmed and cornered.

I try to sit up, but metal restraints pulled me back to the tiny bed I was on. The person's eyes grew wide and concerned.

I clench my teeth and try to fight my way out of the restraints. A few more people come in, which didn't help the feeling of being hopelessly trapped.

One whispers something to another. I catch a part of what he said. Katniss Everdeen.

Katniss Everdeen. Her name makes me angrier than I ever have been before. I hate her. All of my memories of her are bad ones. She killed my family. I have no one because of her. She's the reason everything is so horrible. I have to get rid of her. I have to protect everyone. I hate her.

Katniss (Present)

Peeta still hasn't been brought out of the hovercraft. I'm beginning to get worried. My mother has wandered off somewhere.

I push my way through the crowd. Then, I see him. He looks terrible. His face is full of freshly made cuts and deep purple bruises. His eyes are swollen and puffy. His arms are thin and frail. I can almost see the bones in his finger. His usually perfect blonde hair is sticking out at different angles. I see his eyes. The usual crystal clear blue eyes are gone, replaced by a cloudy black looking color. What have they done to him in such a short period of time? "Peeta..." I whisper.

He doesn't see me. I know what would happen if he did. He'd try to kill me. And I know my heart will feel as though its broken into a million pieces. But I have to try and get him back.

A few more people push me to the side, trying to get by. I brush them off though, and make my way towards Peeta. I am surprised how short that hijacking took. Last time he was gone for so long. Now, only a few days.

"Peeta!" I say, loud enough for him to hear me. This time, he does. He turns and somehow, his eyes seem to grow blacker, if that was even possible. A horrible, disgusted look appears on his face.

"You're a mutt!" he growls. That brought me back to a year ago. That's what he said to me before. "You killed everyone! It's all your fault!"

I feel strong arms around mine, trying to pull me away. "No." I scream "Peeta!" The guards pulls me away from him. He is thrashing around on his stretcher. "Peeta!" I break free of the arms and run towards him. I have no idea what I'm doing.

"Get away from me! You're a killer!" he yells.

"Peeta!" I say confidently. "This isn't real. I'm not a mutt. It's the Capitol. They did this, not me. The Capitol's fault. This is not real."

I think that I've just made it worse. Peeta kicks and tries to get out of the restraints. His teeth and hands were clenched. "You're a liar!" He yells.

"Peeta! Listen. This is not real. My favorite color is green, yours is orange. Like the sunset. My favorite food that you make is your cheese buns. You hold me when I have nightmares. You gave me a pearl in the arena. Those are real. This is not real." I coax. I'm using the strategy from before, but Peeta won't look at me.

The guards come up to me again, and begin to pull me away. "Peeta! This is not real! It's the Capitol's fault!" I yell. A memory popped into my mind. It's a long shot. There's a chance he won't even remember it. "You're more than just a piece in their games!"

I remember that night clearly. When we were both sitting up on the roof. Neither of us could sleep. It was the night before the games. Peeta told me he wanted to be more than just a piece in their games.

Before the guards pull me away from his completely, I swear I see a glint of baby blue in Peeta's eyes. It's working. "Wait!" I yell. "It's working! Stop!"

The men don't listen to me. They pull me away, farther and farther away from Peeta. It worked, and now I know I could can him. They just need to let me.

"What happened?" Haymitch asks.

"Haymitch. It worked. Peeta's eyes turned normal again for a little while. I can help him. Please. Just please let me go back." I plead. There is a small tear in my eye. Haymitch closes his eyes and sighs.

"Why don't we get you inside. You need some rest." he says.

"No! Please, just let me help him. Haymitch, please!" I say. The tear that was waiting in my right eye streams down my cheek.

"Maybe later. You need to sleep," he says. I'm beginning to wonder why Haymitch is beginning to act kinder and softer towards me. It's beginning to feel as though I almost have a father again. Of course, I could never think of Haymitch as a father. Not quite that much, but more than just a mentor.

I turn to see if I can see Peeta, but they must have taken him inside already. The cluster of people outside slowly begins to fade out. Everyone is inside or back on the hovercraft.

Haymitch takes me inside. I have to share my bedroom this time. I open the door to my room.

Inside three beds sit lined up against the wall. There are three dressers beside each bed. There isn't a uniform here anymore, but not many choices of clothing either.

The room is empty, but I can see that the drawers are open slightly and the two other beds are unmade. A part of me hoped I would have to share with my mother. I know I will probably get nightmares, and I need someone to calm me down.

Of course, I wish it would be Peeta, but I know that isn't happening. Not anytime soon anyway.

I hate sharing a room because I feel guilty when I wake the other people up. It's not like I can help the nightmares. That's just another unremovable scar the Capitol has forced upon me. Especially having been in the games twice.

I sit down on my bed and bring my knees up to my chest. There is a small window but it's not like there was much of a view. Just a hovercraft, ash, and rubble. I think I've seen enough of those things for a lifetime.

I sit in silence for I don't know how long. I tense up when I hear the door knob turn. The door swings open slowly.

Standing in the doorway is a woman that looks to be in her mid-twenties. Her red hair is pulled back into a ponytail, her bangs sticking out.

She holds a bundle of blue blankets in her arms. "Shh. . .shhh. . ." she cooes to the baby. She looks up at me. I recognize her sea green eyes right away. Annie Cresta is standing right in front of me.

"Katniss?" Annie asks excitedly. I'm surprised at that. I assumed she'd be angry at me. For not being able to save Finnick. Thinking about Finnick makes my heart ache. I can't believe that I wanted to kill him in the games. Maybe I should have. It would've saved him some pain I guess. But then again, his son wouldn't be here, and I'm sure Annie would have gone completely insane.

"Hello," I say. My voice is fairly scratchy from screaming at Haymitch. My eyes drift to the baby boy. I've only seen him once, in a picture from Annie. She follows my gaze.

"This is Finn," she says quietly. Finn. Short for Finnick I'm sure. Or maybe not. I think I've heard the name Finn before. It reminds me of a fish. Probably because fish have fins, but it fits because they live in District 4.

I wonder how Annie is going to explain to Finn about what happened to his father. I wonder how, someday, I was going to tell my child about my life, my story. I'm not looking forward to that day.

"I had no idea you were here." she says, putting Finn in a crib in the corner. I was too lost in my own thoughts to realize the white cradle was there before.

"Yes," I croak. Annie seems different. I thought she would have gone even more insane when Finnick died. Although, I guess she has to stay sane for her son.

She sits on what I assume to be her bed. I don't like sharing a room with her. I would hate to wake up screaming and wake Finn.

Annie tilts her head to the side and stares straight across from her, at the dirty brown wall. I can't tell what she's thinking about. Probably Finnick.

I can still hear his voice clearly. His words 'Do you want a sugar cube?' ring through my mind. I guess I'm staring off into space too.

"You look like you need rest," Annie says, snapping out of her trance. "I'll leave you alone."

I don't object to that. I watch as Annie walks out of the room with little Finn.

I rest my head on my pillow and fall asleep.
