Hermione's pov ~present day~
Tears slid silently down my face as I read the letter from Professor McGonagall. It was August, a year after dumbledor's death and everyone was returning for another year of schooling. Actually my year would be the first ever eighth years. But that's not why I was crying, The head girl's badge sat in my open hand. I had just sent Harry and Ron both an owl about it and couldn't wait for their answers. I place the badge carefully on my desk as I turn to face my room. My mom calls up from the kitchen and I rush down stairs to tell her about being head girl.
On September first I stand in the hallway waiting for my mother and father. My trunk safely shrunken in my pocket we all climb in the car. We reach the station with fifteen minutes to spare. I kiss my mother and father goodbye before walking towards platform nine and three quarters. Steam, the hooting owls and the throng of students greats me as I enter the platform. I search the crowd for Ron and Harry, finally sporting them next to the far end of the train. I rush up to them and give Ron a kiss on the cheek as greeting and smile at Harry and Ginny. After our kiss in the chamber of secrets, last June Ron had said he just wanted to be friends but I still care for him. Ginny and Harry had started dating again and were so cute together.
"Hey, Hermione how was your summer?" Says Harry.
"Fine how about yours?" I respond
"Fine." Ron, Harry and I exchange a look. We board the train and find an empty compartment. I take the window seat across from Ginny as Harry sits down next to her and Ron beside me. Ron's arm finds its way over my shoulders but the feeling unsettles me as if someone's watching. The group starts to discuss quidich and I stand up.
"Sorry guys but I have to go to the heads compartment to speak to McGonagall about being head girl." I slid the door closed and walk down the train to the head's compartment, knock and step in. But as I take my seat to my shock I find Malfoy sitting beside me.
