Chapter One Hundred Fourteen – Liam
Liam laughs as he hears Zayn calling Bella again, Louis and Harry are coming over today and want to ask Bella if she'll be their flower girl. The couple had already asked Liam and Zayn what they thought about it, both men agreeing to it, Zayn insisting that Bella will do anything for Uncle Louis. It's been two months since the day the twins started teething and Zack decided he could sit up, and in that two months Zack has managed to cut two teeth, while Chloe only has one, but Liam is pretty sure she's working on another one, given how miserable she's been for the last week. Chloe has also started sitting up, about two days after her brother, the same thing happened, Liam sat her up in front of him, and she had just stayed, Zayn of course had cried, while Bella cheered both her little brother and sister on, because sitting is one step closer to playing. Liam's pretty sure that Zack at least, is about ready to crawl, the boy always trying to get his hands and knees underneath himself to chase after Aurora, and Bella, and almost anything that moves if he's honest. Chloe doesn't seem to share Zack's need to be moving, but Liam knows as soon as Zack's mobile his twin won't be far behind him.
Liam sends the email to his travel agent confirming the last minute details to his and Zayn's trip, which they are supposed to leave for in two weeks, and Liam only hopes that if Zack does start to crawl it's either before they leave, or after they're home. Trisha agreed to staying at their house with all three kids, as Liam's mum has her hands full with his dad, who although he seems to be getting better, still needs her help. But Karen had assured her son that she planned on coming to visit Trisha and her grandbabies often while they were gone. "Bella you need to clean this up, Uncle Louis is coming to see you!" Zayn calls again and Liam chuckles, his husband sounds exasperated and rightfully so, Bella's basically been ignoring him since they told her a couple weeks ago that both of them were going away without her for a few days.
Sighing Liam leaves his desk heading up the stairs to find the twins both sitting on a playmat in the living room, random toys all around them, Zack squealing when he lays eyes on his daddy, and dropping his hands to the floor, struggling to get his knees to cooperate. Liam watches in awe as Zack manages to get his knees underneath himself and pushes himself up, pulling out his phone Liam hits record, and quickly calls Zayn. Zayn makes it to the room just as Zack starts to actually succeed in moving, slowly towards Liam, Chloe squeals from where she's still sitting, watching her brother. "Is he?" Zayn asks and Liam nods "come on then Zack, come to Daddy" he coos as Zack continues towards him, Liam closes the last few steps between him and his son, scooping the happy boy into his arms. "You did it Zack Attack" Liam cheers kissing his cheek, and Zack grins at him happily before snuggling into Liam's chest.
Zayn scoops Chloe into his arms, bringing her over to Liam, "I guess we need to put up those baby gates, huh?" Zayn asks and Liam chuckles, leaning over to kiss Zayn and then Chloe's cheek, when she whines in protest at him. "Yeah, I don't think we want this little man taking a fall down the stairs" Liam answers just as Bella runs into the room and tugs on Liam's jeans. "Daddy?" she asks and Liam crouches down to be at her level, "Uncle Louis' comin'" she says and Liam nods. "He is, but did you clean up like Baba asked you to?" he asks and Bella avoids his gaze, giving him his answer, "you need to do what Baba says Arabella" Liam scolds. Bella pouts but shakes her head, "Baba's leaving" she mutters and Liam hears Zayn sigh before his younger husband takes Zack from his arms and carries the twins out of the room. Liam raises an eyebrow at Bella and sits down on the hardwood floor, pulling her into his lap, "I'm leaving too Bella, and Baba and I will only be gone for one week and then we'll be home to play with you" he explains. Bella shakes her head at him, "but Baba never leaves" she whimpers and suddenly it all makes sense. Liam's been away on business several time since he's been in Bella's life, but the longest Zayn has ever been away from her is one night, and even then he was still just at home if she needed him.
"You know Baba loves you very much, right?" Liam asks and Bella nods, snuggling into his chest. "And Baba and I will be back, I promise. Plus you can call both of us anytime you want, okay?" Liam asks. Bella sighs and nods her head, "now do you think you can stop giving Baba such a hard time? He really doesn't want to leave you, and you're making him sad when you don't listen to him like this" Liam murmurs. Bella looks up at him and pouts, her head tilting to the side as she thinks, "don't want Baba to be sad" she mumbles and Liam nods. "I know you don't, so why don't you go and clean up whatever Baba asked you to before Uncle Louis, and Uncle Harry get here, and then you can find Baba and apologize" he explains. Bella sighs and nods before she climbs off his lap and runs away towards her room, to clean up whatever Zayn wanted her to. Liam gets to his feet once she's gone and follows the path Zayn took to find him in the kitchen, feeding the twins some baby cereal as they sit in their high chairs. Solid food is another new thing in the world of the twins, Zayn having started them on the cereal a week ago, which Zack hadn't been so sure about at first, but Chloe couldn't get enough of. "You okay?" Liam asks and Zayn looks up to nod at him, "yeah, just maybe we shouldn't go?" he asks, but Liam shakes his head quickly. "We're going Zayn, Bella will be fine" he insists, coming closer to take one of the bowls and spoons from Zayn and starting to feed Zack, who gurgles at him happily.
Liam's just finishing installing the baby gate at the top of the stairs that leads down to the front door, when the doorbell rings, groaning Liam gets up and attempts to open the gate which proves almost impossible. Giving up Liam carefully climbs over the gate and moves quickly down the stairs to pull the door open, just as Louis reaches over to ring the doorbell again. "It's about time Payne" Louis teases, walking into the house, followed by Harry who chuckles quietly at his fiancé, "I got trapped" Liam pouts. Louis lets out a loud laugh, as Harry hangs up their coats, "baby gates, that can only mean one thing" Louis hums, and Liam nods, "which one is crawling?" Harry asks and Liam grins. "Zack, he took off this morning, and tries to follow me everywhere, and I don't want him to fall down the stairs, when I go to my office" Liam explains. Harry and Louis both nod, but then Louis' lips spread into a smirk that Liam has learned means nothing good, "but you got trapped Liam, which means Payno can't work the baby gates" he cackles and Liam sighs, just as Zayn appears at the top of the stairs. "Lay off Lou, you couldn't work the one we had for Bella either, I had to rescue you everyday for two weeks" Zayn teases, opening the baby gate with ease, so the three men can come into the main floor of the house. Liam pouts at him as he passes and Zayn chuckles, "you'll figure it out Li" he coos, kissing his cheek, before following Louis and Harry into the living room.
Bella comes barrelling into the room as soon as everyone sits down, jumping into Louis' lap with an excited squeal, "Uncle Louis you're here!" she cheers. Louis chuckles wrapping his arms around her and pressing a fond kiss to her cheek "of course I needed to come and see my favourite girl" Louis coos, which makes Bella giggle, before she climbs over to Harry and kisses his cheek. Pouting Bella reaches a hand up to Harry's now short hair, "why'd you cut it?" she asks and he grins, "needed a change Love" he murmurs, and Bella pouts again and nods. Liam watches as Bella makes herself comfortable sprawling out across both Harry and Louis' laps, each man happy to accommodate her. The monitor blares to life with a loud wailing cry and Liam gets up, "I'll get that, you guys visit" he murmurs as he heads towards the stairs, that thankfully he hasn't put a gate on yet, and takes the steps two at a time.
Liam rounds the corner into the nursery to see Chloe still sleeping, face down in her crib, with her bum up in the air, it's seriously one of the cutest things he's ever seen. Zack however is sitting in his crib, rubbing at his face as he cries, "oh Zack, what's the matter?" Liam coos, scooping the boy into his arms. Zack sniffles and rubs his face against Liam's t-shirt, his cries settling down as he does, Liam checks to see if he needs a change quickly, and finding he does, sets him on the changing table to change him fast. Zack whimpers through the whole change, snuggling happily back into Liam's t-shirt once he's scooped back up, "do you want to go and see Uncle Harry and Uncle Louis?" Liam hums. Zack gurgles something that Liam can't understand, "is that a yes?" he coos, before checking on Chloe one more time and carrying Zack out of the room, and back downstairs where he can hear everyone else still talking. Zack garbles something again and starts to suck on Liam's shirt, making him chuckle, "how about I take you to Baba and then I'll make you a bottle, deal?" Liam asks, Zack giggling at him in response. "Someone's awake" Liam hums, carrying the boy into the room, Harry's eyes light up at the sight of the infant and Liam chuckles passing the boy down into Harry's arms, Zack pouting, before he grabs a fistful of Harry's shirt in his hands.
When Liam comes back in with Zack's bottle, Bella is cuddling with just Louis, while Harry is bouncing Zack on his knees, Zayn's watching all four of them with a fond smile on his lips. "Here Haz" Liam hums passing the bottle to Harry before turning to sit with Zayn, Zack squeals and makes grabby hands for the bottle as soon as he spots it. "So when are you guys gonna have kids?" Zayn smirks and both Louis and Harry's eyes widen comically, Bella giggles, "baby?" she asks Louis who shakes his head. "No Bells. No babies right now" he murmurs, turning to glare at Zayn, who laughs, "not for a while yet Zayn" Louis snaps and Liam's eyes widen, he's never heard that tone from Louis aimed at Zayn before. "Relax Lou"Harry hums, eyes never leaving where he's feeding a content Zack his bottle, "you know he just likes to bug us" he adds. Louis makes a face, sighing as he cuddles Bella a little tighter, "sorry Zee" he mumbles, but Zayn just waves him off and snuggles into Liam a little more.
"We should probably get to the reason we're here" Louis says once Zack's done his bottle and Harry has set him down on the floor, which made Zack pout, before he slowly crawled to where a few abandoned toys still lay, shoving the edge of the first one he touched into his mouth. "Arabella? How would you like to be mine and Harry's flower girl, when we get married like Baba and Daddy did?" Louis asks, Bella's eyebrows furrow in confusion. "Don't want to be a flower" she mumbles, making all four men laugh, "not a flower Boo, a flower girl" Zayn corrects gently, "you know how you walked down before Baba, and dropped flowers for me and Daddy?" Zayn asks. Bella nods slowly, "that's what Uncle Louis wants you to do, just for him and Uncle Harry instead of me and Daddy" Zayn finishes. Liam laughs as Bella's eyes light up and she nods quickly, wrapping her arms tightly around Louis' neck, "YES!" she cheers before diving over to Harry, narrowly missing kicking Louis, who's quick to dodge her feet as she goes, to hug him tightly too. Liam watches on fondly, as Zayn cuddles into him and Zack babbles to a toy sheep on the floor, Bella once again sprawls herself across Louis and Harry's laps, just as Chloe cries loudly from upstairs, "I'll get her" Zayn hums before he disappears from the room. Leaving Liam to watch Zayn's two best friends as they play with two of his children, thinking about how he never thought he'd be so lucky.
