Special Chapter 2
"YOU have a nice place." Matulin na lumibot ang mga mata ni mama sa buong bahay. Ako mismo ang nag-ayos ng bahay namin ni Tiago Lance, kasama ang mga pinsan ko at ang asawa nila. Their ideas were all wonderful. Lumabas na tila propesyonal ang nagdisenyo niyon.
"Mama..." I saw my mother smiled in half after sitting on the sofa. I offered her a drink which she greatly accepted.
Mataman kong pinagmasdan ang aking Ina. After almost three months, naisipan din niya akong dalawin. I just hope she came here with an open heart. Sana naman ay matanggap na niya si Tiago Lance para sa akin.
"I miss you, daughter." Napakagat ako sa aking labi nang masilayan ko ang paglambong ng lungkot sa mga mata ni mama. Tumikhim ako.
"Namiss din kita, mama. Balak ko po sanang ikansela ang kasal namin ni Tiago Lance noon sa civil..."
"But you didn't." Gagad ni mama sa anumang sasabihin ko. Lumunok ako nang maulinigan ang munting tampo sa boses ng aking Ina.
"Mama, I'm sorry if I failed to fulfill your request. I can't marry another man because I'm in love with my husband."
Bumungtunghininga siya. Hinintay ko na lamang na magsalita si mama ngunit matiim lamang siyang nakatitig sa akin. "All my life, I struggled for my freedom, ma. I grew up wondering why there's men in uniform surrounding me."
"I was crying playing alone, ma. Ni wala akong kalaro. Ni hindi niyo ako pinayagang makihalubilo sa ibang mga bata. I don't remember a happy moment being a kid. Palaging ang mga pinsan ko lamang ang kasama ko."
"Gusto ko lang naman nang normal na buhay, ma. Iyong may ibang makilala o maging kaibigan ako. But no one wants to be friend with me because they were scared of my bodyguards."
"I was suffocated. You guys run my life. All of you decides for me. Ni hindi ko alam kung kaya ko bang magdesisyon nang maayos para sa sarili ko. Ni hindi ko nga naranasan na madapa at tumayo sa sarili kong paa."
"I didn't regret that I eloped home. Because of that I met Tiago Lance. He taught me so many things. Little by little, I changed. Natututo akong mamuhay mag-isa, magluto, maglinis ng bahay, makihalubilo sa iba't ibang tao. Natuto akong magtiwala sa sarili ko, ma. At natuto akong magmahal."
"Tiago Lance is a good person, mama. He loves me, and he never made me doubt about that every day we're together."
"He maybe missing a lot but he has a pure heart. Please give him a chance, ma."
Matulin na lumipas sa amin ang katahimikan. My mother cleared her throat. Gusto kong marinig ang mga rason niya. Gusto kong maintindihan ang pagtanggi niya sa amin ni Tiago Lance. I want to listen to her, because her opinion is important to me. Hindi man kami malapit sa isa't isa nang aking Ina ay mahal ko siya.
Her face shows no emotion. "I was like you when I was young. Struggling."
"Me and your dad were also a product of arranged marriage." Namilog ang mga mata ko nang sabihin niya iyon. Ngayon ko lamang nalaman iyon. I never thought theire marriage were fixed. They were a perfect couple. Kahit dominante si mama ay nakita ko ang pagmamahalan nila ni Daddy.
"I was against with my parent's decision so I run away." Mama said.
"I met a man who's as beggared as a rotten rat. I fell for him. I thought, his love was real."
I watched my mother as she continued talking. "We were so happy, Barbara. And I was pregnant carrying his child. We're supposed to be married, but I overheard him talking to a woman, which happens to be his real wife."
Pain stroked my heart as I heard my mother's spiel. Kaya ba ganoon na lamang ang pagtanggi niya kay Tiago Lance para sa akin? She thought Tiago Lance is after my money?
"He fooled me. Gusto lang pala niya akong p-perahan." My mother cracked her voice. My tears dropped as I saw the hurt on her eyes.
"I was ruined. Dinugo ako and I've lost the baby..." Suminghap ako at napatutop sa aking bibig. Ngayon ko lamang ito nalaman and this chopped my heart into two.
"Mama." Masuyo akong tumabi sa kanya at inabot ang kamay niya upang pisilin iyon.
"Your father was there during those times. My parents and relatives were also there. Hindi nila ako pinabayaan."
"I never felt anything towards your father, but I've learned to love him along my healing process." She softly smile after drying the tears on her face. Napalunok ako. I was guilty, thinking how I judged my mother.
"I married him, and your brother came into our lives. After 5 years, you happened. But this wasn't easy for us. Premature ka noong pinanganak kita. You're almost dying. Matagal kang n-nasa NICU, Barbara." Pumikit ako nang mamuo muli ang luha sa aking mga mata. Naninikip ang dibdib na pinahid ko ang aking mga luha. I thought my mother is a selfish cold blooded bitch, but I was wrong. She'd been through a lot.
"We've been praying everyday for your survival, anak. Araw araw hinihiling ko sa Diyos na sana mabuhay ka pa kahit parang makina na lamang ang sumusuporta sa paghinga m-mo. I never left you, Barbara."
"You're very precious to me. So when you survived death. We've been very protective of you."
"Talamak ang kidnap for ransom noon. I was so scared of you being kidnap. Lahat ng alam kong nararapat lamang ay ginawa ko. We hired bodyguards to keep you safe. We isolated you to people because we believe everyone can harm you."
"I never thought that we've been so hard to you all along. Hindi ko na namalayan na unti unti nang lumalayo ang loob mo sa amin. And I'm sorry for that, princess." Umusog ako at yumakap na kay mama.
I understand her. No parents would want the worst for their children. Kaya pala ganoon na lamang siya kay Goddess noong una silang magkakilala. This were the reason why she was rude to Tiago Lance.
"I regret pairing you to someone else. We have a diferent fate so I should have let you decide the man who you will love."
"Sorry, ma. I thought the worst of y-you." Kagat labi kong sinalubong ang naluluhang mata ni mama nang lumayo siya sa akin.
"It's okay, princess. No harm done."
"You're right, hija. Your husband is a good man. It took me time to realize that. You see, he signed a prenuptial agreement so he can prove his intention to you." Umawang ang mga labi ko sa pagkabigla.
"Princess." We eyed the door when it opened. Nakangiting mukha ni Tiago Lance ang bumungad sa amin.
Tiago's eyes went to my mother. We stood up.
"Good afternoon, madam Henderson." Bahagyang sumeryoso ang mukha ni Tiago Lance.
"Good afternoon hijo." Gumilid si mama sa akin. "I want to talk to your husband, anak." Tumango ako. I walked towards my husband and gave him a peck on his lips.
"Sa garden lang ako."
Their talk ended shortly. Nakangiti na ang mukha ni mama ng lumabas siya sa pinto. "I have to go, anak." I hugged her and watched as she rode the car.
Lumingon ako kay Tiago Lance. Nakasandig lamang siya sa pintuan. He spread his arms. Tumakbo ako at nagsumiksik sa dibdib niya.
"How's my princess?" Masuyo niyang tanong sa akin. He kissed my forehead and I raised my head to meet his eyes.
"Ayos lang ako, Tiago Lance. How's the talk with my mother?" Dumukwang siya at siniil ang aking mga labi. Malambing kong tinugon ang kanyang mga labi. We shared a kiss for a moment.
"Pinapabalik niya ako sa Bardde." He commented.
"Tinanggap mo ba?" Though he has a position on my brother's company, I know managing a college is his passion. Doon ko siya nakilala kaya mas gugustuhin ko pa ding doon siya magtuloy.
"I ask for a day to decide, Barbara."
"Bakit kailangan mo pang pag-isipan? I know you miss the program."
Bumungtunghininga siya. He pulled me inside our house. I sat on his lap. I caressed his cheeks as I watched his expressions. I will always be enchanted by his extraordinay looks. Everything about him is prefect.
"Accepting the position means spending less time with my wife. I'm fine with your brother's company, with 9 hours of work a day."
"Pareho din lang naman iyon kung babalik ka sa pagiging dean, TL." Nagtataka kong tanong.
Umiling siya. "It will consume most of my time. Baka mawalan na ako ng oras sa iyo dahil paniguradong mag-uuwi pa ako ng trabaho rito. Being a dean would also mean I have to attend series of seminars and training out of town. Malalayo ka sa akin."
"Naiintindihan ko iyon, Tiago Lance. Minahal kita dahil responsable ka, and I want you to stay that way. Maraming paraan para magkasama tayo. Pwede akong sumama sa iyo. We can also video chat if not."
"I know it's your passion to serve the program. Bardde needs you." Pumungay ang kanyang mga mata nang halikan niya ako sa pisngi.
"But I need you too, Barbara. You're now my passion. Loving you is my ultimate mision. Seeing you happy is my happiness. I love you, princess."
Tumango ako at humarap ng upo sa kanya. "I love you too, Tiago Lance." I stroked his nape as I looked lovingly in his coffee eyes. He pulled me closer, enough for me to feel his manhood pressed on my center.
