Romance is not something I'm familiar with, so I write based off what I have read and what I observed in the past. (I hope this isn't bad or cringe-worthy.) Please listen to the song, it's very beautiful and I think it goes well with the storyline overall.

An anniversary is a date that is celebrated or recognized once a year, honoring an event that took place in the past. The past can be a few years ago, or many years ago. It doesn't really matter how long ago the event took place. What really matters is why the date is being celebrated for.
When it comes to a couple's anniversary, the date is when the two's romance began. Some couples see anniversaries as a big deal and will go all out to celebrate. Others have a more subtle celebration, but they still care just the same.
Younger couples usually become very excited and happy for the special day to come rolling around. They'll buy all sorts of gifts for their significant other and maybe go out on a date or fancy dinner. It's a pretty good feeling when a loved one shows their affection more than usual. Some would admit that they crave for such a feeling. The feeling of being loved and cared for.
For (Y/n) and Natsu, an anniversary is special. One their first anniversary, Natsu had taken (Y/n) out on a date to (f/p) and gave her a large, soft plushy of a red dragon that she'd been fawning over but never got because of the triple digits on the price tag. She had seen the plush toy in the window of a small store and said it reminded her of Natsu. According to her, dragons are all strong and look very tough from their outside appearance, but soft and cuddly on the inside. That very statement made Natsu purchase the plushy while
(Y/n) was at work. He didn't care about the price, since his only thoughts were to make his girlfriend happy.
This year, for their second anniversary, (Y/n) wants to turn the tables and do something special for Natsu. Since its her day off, (Y/n) took the chance to place a reservation for the following day at his favorite restaurant and order an expensive, digital watch for him since he's always forgetful of the time and date. The (h/c) haired girl is very excited and skips her way to the apartment she shares with her pink haired boyfriend.
Arriving at the door, she opens it with her key and shuffles in. The apartment is empty since Natsu is at work. (Y/n) sets down her belongings onto a nearby table and walks into her and Natsu's shared bedroom to change into more comfortable clothes. She puts away her bag before walking to the kitchen to start making dinner.
As she's preparing (f/d) the loud ringing of the phone echoes throughput the apartment. (Y/n) quickly washes her hands and sprints towards the phone while drying her hands on the side of her pants. Picking up the phone, (Y/n) can hear the sound of her beloved boyfriend's voice talking to whom she assumes to be his boss.
Natsu realizes that (Y/n) already picked up and excuses himself from his superior. He greets her with a monotone voice and proceeds to inform his girlfriend that he'll be coming home late without letting her answer to his greeting. Her disappointed whine doesn't go unnoticed by the male, but he doesn't say anything about it. A quick apology for the sudden change in schedule makes (Y/n) a bit happier and she gently chides Natsu to not overwork himself. He says a few "I know's" with an annoyed attitude before asking (Y/n) to not stay up late to wait for him. He hangs up before (Y/n) can say anything more.
(Y/n) lets out a huff and trudges back to the kitchen with a pout. The dinner she's been making is large enough for three people to consume. Natsu consumes about two times as much food as an average person, so (Y/n) learned to always make more than enough. Now, the food will have to be crammed into the small refrigerator for Natsu to heat up and eat when he returns. Sighing, (Y/n) picks up form where she left off, dreaming about the great day she and Natsu will have tomorrow on their anniversary.
~Mini Time Skip~
The door of the apartment creaks open as Natsu tries to stealthily slip in through a small opening. He knows from experience that his (h/c) girlfriend is easily awakened by the loud, creaky door no matter how tired is or how deeply she is sleeping. The pink haired male gently shuts the door and begins to tug off his suit jacket and tie. Soft thudding of his shoes hitting the floor echo slightly in the room, but isn't loud enough to awaken (Y/n).
Disheveled pink hair is ruffled with one hand while Natsu's other hand opens the refrigerator to dig through the small, cooling appliance for food. Onyx eyes spot a large container with a sticky note attached to the side. Natsu grabs the food and reads the note.
Natsu
This container has what I made for dinner. Whether or not to heat it up is
your decision. There should be enough for you to eat. If not, you'll
have to wait until breakfast!

The man feels a twinge in his heart after reading the note. He sets the note aside and slowly eats his cold dinner in the dimly lit kitchen. Once he finishes, the container and eating utensils are set in the sink and left there for (Y/n) to wash when she wakes up.
Natsu tiredly drags his feet into the bedroom with his body hunched over in exhaustion as he walks. His remaining clothes are torn off himself and thrown at the foot of the bed. He slowly sits onto the bed and sinks into the soft mattress with a sigh of relief. (Y/n) stirs and latches onto Natsu's arm while murmuring his name in her sleep. Before he can do anything, (Y/n) rolls over to his side of the bed and snuggles into his warm body.
"I love you, Natsu..." (Y/n)'s sleep-laced voice murmurs once again.
"I-I... I love y-you..too," Natsu hesitantly whispers before pressing a gentle kiss on her head. He feels another twinge in his heart as he wraps his arms around (Y/n), drifting off to sleep.
~Time Skip Again~
White beams of sunshine pierce through the (f/c) and red curtains in the bedroom windows. Angelic chirps of a variety of birds serve as a soothing wake up call. (Y/n)'s eyes flutter open to see the world as a blurry blob of colors. A few seconds later, her eyes adjust to the change and her gaze lands on the snoring lump beside her. Wild tufts of pink hair are sticking out in every direction and tickle (Y/n)'s nose, making her sneeze with a small squeak.
A strong arm reaches over to (Y/n) and grabs her by the waist. Her body gets pulled against Natsu's warmer one and is squeezed tightly. Warm breaths of air are exhaled onto (Y/n)'s bare neck, causing her to squirm in Natsu's grip while giggling.
"N-Natsu! Hehe! T-That tickles!"
Natsu hums tiredly and presses his face into the crook of her neck. A gentle smile forms on her lips. (Y/n) pecks his cheek while slipping out of the warm, comfortable bed.
"Nooo," the pink haired male whines with a hoarse voice. "Stay in bed with me, L- (Y/n)."
(Y/n) frowns with confusion at what Natsu began to say before cutting himself off by saying her name. She decides to shrug it off, believing that his only half awake self isn't fully aware of what he's saying.
"Sorry, Natsu," she smiles apologetically," but I have to go pick something up and do some more grocery shopping. You are more than half of the groceries we had yesterday. I'll only take an hour or two at the most. When I get back, we can spend more time together. Happy anniversary, Natsu!"
While kissing his lips, (Y/n) doesn't notice Natsu's eyes widening. He gently kisses her back before pulling away. (Y/n) changes and exits the room with her bag and shoes in hand. The creaking sound of the door closing informs Natsu that his girlfriend is no longer in the apartment, along with the deafening silence. He immediately jumps out of bed and makes a mad dash for his cellphone.
~Mini Time Skip Again~ Sorry!
The waiting time to pick up the watch took a lot longer than (Y/n) had expected when she left the apartment. Two hours had gone by since she'd left. It's already noon. Scorching hot rays of sunshine nips at (Y/n)'s exposed skin and bakes the skin hidden underneath her clothes. The uncomfortable heat makes the girl pick up her pace. She finds herself at the entrance of the apartment complex in 15 minutes. Jogging the rest of the way,
(Y/n) excitedly jams her keys into the keyhole and wrenches the door open. She's met with complete silence upon stepping into the apartment. Kicking off her shoes, (Y/n) notices that not only are Natsu's shoes are still in the same place as before, but there's an unfamiliar pair of shoes as well. Confusion and suspicion sets in as the (h/c) haired girl wanders cautiously into her shared apartment. (Y/n) hides her present for Natsu behind her back while looking for the pink haired male.
Arriving at the bedroom, (Y/n) giggles in excitement. Her hand raises to push open the door, but falls immediately when her eyes spot the unpleasant surprise before her. In hers and Natsu's shared bed, lies Natsu himself and another woman. The two are asleep and unaware of (Y/n).
The stranger is unquestionably attractive. Luscious, blonde tresses drape over the woman's shoulders and are sprawled out on the pillow beneath her head. Pale, porcelain skin makes the stranger's appearance seem even more youthful than she probably is. Looking around, (Y/n) recognizes Natsu's clothes mixed with lewd garments and lingerie hanging on the bedposts and lying on the floor. It's very obvious that the two are nude beneath the duvet.
Hot tears stream down (Y/n)'s face. Shock and disbelief has her unable to move. She contemplates about waking the pair up, but (Y/n) can barely find the strength to open her mouth, much less talk. (Y/n) looses all the strength in her body. Her shaky knees collapse, making her drop to the floor. The velvet box in her hand containing Natsu's watch falls to the ground with a loud thud.
"Huh, wha," Natsu groggily groans out, waking up from the loud noise. He turns his head left and right several times before his eyes land on his girlfriend at the doorway... on her knees with tears running down her face, her eyes wide open, and lips parted in shock.
In a flash, (Y/n) stands up and bolts away from the room. Natsu realizes his situation and quickly pulls on his boxers before running out of the apartment after (Y/n). Thoughts of embarrassment of being seen in his underwear is thrown out the window as the pink haired male screams for the (h/c) haired girl to stop. She ignores his shouts and continues to run.
Waves of emotions come crashing down upon (Y/n)'s mind. Thoughts are scrambled with a wide variety of emotions and feelings, clouding her mind from using logic or reasoning. Her legs seem to be on autopilot and don't plan on slowing down. Sounds become muffled and incomprehensible.

Emotions are running high and nothing is stopping them. (Y/n) doesn't realize that she had run into the streets and Natsu is several feet behind. The pink haired male desperately calls for her to stop. A speeding truck is heading right in (Y/n)'s path and she doesn't notice it. Natsu pushes himself to run faster while still screaming (Y/n)'s name. His lungs feel as if they're burning and his legs are numb. With an arm outstretched, Natsu cries out the name of his lover as she runs right into the street and right in front of the incoming truck.
Crash
The truck driver's eyes widen when he sees the girl running right towards the street and into the path of his car. His foot rams down onto the break pedal and his wrists turn in an attempt to avoid a crash. With no avail, the speeding vehicle hits (Y/n) at high speed. Her body is sent flying several feet and remains unmoving.
Natsu's skids to a stop and chokes down his sobs. It takes him time before the shock fully sets in. He races over to (Y/n) and cradles her limp body in his arms, rocking back and forth in a gentle motion. The driver of the truck is out of the vehicle and pulls out his phone to get help.
Natsu's POV
'WHY!? WHY MUST THIS HAPPEN TO ME?! TO HER?! WHY DID I HAVE TO DO THAT TO (Y/N)!?'
All of this could have been avoided if I hadn't decided to go behind her back and sleep with another woman. I am so selfish that my actions have cost (Y/n) her life. All I wanted was some excitement in my life that (Y/n) wasn't giving me. She loved me so much, I know it. But I neglected her affections and turned towards a coworker who only gave me her body and feigns her love for me.
I love her so much...
I never stopped loving her...
So many questions and scenarios with "Why's" and "if's" flood my mind. "I could have's" and "I shouldn't have's" join in with the other thoughts in my overwhelmed brain. The worst thing is, (Y/n) died thinking I didn't love her.
I lean down and press a kiss to her cold, salty lips. My left hand shakily touches her cold skin to wipe off the tears that remain on her pale face.
"I l-love you, (Y/n). W-What I did is not a-acceptable. If I c-could give anything to go b-back and correct the m-mistakes I made, I-I would do it in an instant. I'm in-incredibly stupid and s-sorry. I had one chance t-to make you h-happy and loved, and I took full advantage of it. B-But in the end, all I d-did was break your heart... P-Please forgive me. If I c-could have a d-do over, I'd take up that op-opportunity immediately."
I can hear sirens wailing in the distance. They're too late... Nothing that they would do can bring back my beloved.
"I-I promise to y-you... that if w-we meet a-again someday... I'll treat you right... I swear! You have my word, (Y/n). For now, sleep well."
