"Aish. Why doesn't Mr. Park ever pick up his phone? WE HAVE 3 PATIENTS HERE. WHERE THE FK IS HE?!" Lee Sung Kwan stomped his foot very angrily.
"I wish Soojin was back at work already. Then I would have less work to do!"
"I'm here."
Sung Kwan turned around to see Soojin with a hair tie sticking out of her teeth. She gathered up her hair as she checked the CT scan he just completed. Then she walked out the door tightening her ponytail.
"Book an operating room for me. Thanks!" She called.
Sung Kwan scratched his head in frustration.
"She's going to get in trouble if she conducts another surgery alone again without the higher-ups permission... Let me call Mr. Park one more time."
He dialed his number.
After two rings, he picked up.
"Hello?"
"MR. JIMIN PARK. I HAVE BEEN CALLING YOU NONSTOP. This is the 12th time I called you!" He hissed through the phone.
"Oh sorry. I was recording my new album. Is there something you need?"
"We have 2 patients waiting for you here. Fellow Soojin is planning on conducting a surgery on one of them but I don't know if it's okay with the rules because they are your patients..."
Jimin practically leaped for joy. Soojin's okay! And she's working now!
"Tell Soojin to wait. I'll be right there."
"Okay... Would you like to speak to her?"
"I'll just call her. It's fine."
He hung up.
Jimin dialed her number with shaking hands.
"Hello?"
"SOOJIN! You didn't tell me you were discharged! Are you okay?"
She laughed. "I'm totally fine. One of your patients needs an urgent surgery. She's in a critical condition. Do you want me to start the surgery now or wait for you to come? How far away from the hospital are you?"
"I'm at bighit right now and we're still in the process of recording the album. It might take a while."
"Okay. Then can I just conduct the surgery? There isn't much time."
"Go ahead. But be careful."
"I will."
"I love you."
Soojin froze at those three words.
Wh-What did he just say?
"Wait. Say that again?"
"I love you." he repeated.
There was a long moment of silence.
"...Aren't you going to say it back?"
"Oh-h ri-right. Love you too..."
He laughed a bit.
"Thanks. Bye."
Soojin sighed and twirled her hair around her finger.
Well, I guess we're moving on fast through this relationship... this is weird...
5 hours later
Soojin wiped the sweat from her brow with her sleeve.
"Bipolar."
She stuck out her hand.
"Bipolar." She repeated.
Her assistant was dozing off.
Annoyed, she whacked him on the head.
"How many times do I have to ask for the bipolar?"
"Oh sorry." He bowed in apology.
"We still have another 2 hours of surgery. Try and stay awake."
Soojin took of her mask and yawned.
She walked over to the locker rooms to change out of her blue scrub.
She turned the lock and opened the locker with a clang.
She changed into a blue blouse and black jeans. She threw her doctors coat on.
Soojin grabbed her hairbrush and redid her ponytail, checking for bumps in the mirror.
She was about to shut the door when Jimin slammed it shut with one arm.
"Jimin!" Soojin exclaimed.
"Hey." He smiled.
Soojin tucked back a strand of hair in embarrassment. "How was your album recording?" She asked shyly.
He groaned. "It took foreverrrr and I'm so tired. Can you give me a hug to make me feel better?"
She blushed. "Right now?"
He raised his arms. "When else?"
She nervously slid into his embrace.
He tightened his arms around her.
She smiled into his shoulder as he kissed her forehead.
"Your hugs are the best medicine." He whispered into her ear.
Soojin pulled away and smacked him on the shoulder.
"Aish! So cheesy..."
He grinned. "Are you done with work?"
"Yes. Why?"
"Let's go get boba!" He cheered.
"Aigoo, you're just like a little kid." She squished his cheeks.
He pulled away, frowning. "I have a jawline now see? There's no more fat for you to squish." He stuck out his tongue at her.
"No, you're still the squishy little mochi from high school."
"Don't call me little. I'm taller than you."
He turned away from her, pretending to be mad.
"Aw I'm sorry." She pulled him into a back hug.
She felt him hold her hands around his waist. She buried her face into his back, taking in his scent.
He held her small hands in his slightly bigger ones.
"I don't know what I would do without you." He said softly.
"You know I always wondered what it would feel like to hold your hands like this." He said.
"I've always dreamed of you becoming my girlfriend. I never imagined that my wish would come true."
He turned to face her, staring into her wide curious eyes.
"The day you told me you loved me was the best day of my life. My life was so much brighter. Your smile was so breathtaking and I loved every part of you. You can only imagine how hard it was for me when you left that day."
Soojin's face glistened with tears. "I'm so sorry. I missed you so much but I just couldn't... come back... I worked hard for my dad and nothing else."
He wiped her tears away.
"Don't cry."
She sniffled.
He leaned down and kissed her on the cheek.
"I love you. And nothing will ever change that."
"I-I love you too." Soojin whispered.
Then he kissed her full on the mouth. Soojin couldn't breathe or think.
She was too overcome with blissful joy.
When possibly several sunlight days had passed, they resurfaced.
"So... About that boba?"
"One taro smoothie with boba and one honeydew milk tea with boba please!"
Soojin and Jimin chirped at the same time.
"That will be 11.55."
"I'll pay." Jimin held out a 20 dollar bill.
"No it's okay! I'll pay." She held out another 20 dollar bill.
"Kim Soojin, put that 20 dollar bill back right now."
"No I'm paying for this! You paid for the ice cream last time!"
"Fine, Fine."
The very confused cashier took the 20 dollar bill without another comment.
They sat down across from each other.
Soojin gave him his drink. "Here."
"Thank you." He started eating is boba happily.
Soojin stared at him. He was so perfect.
She just simply couldn't understand how a human being like him could fall in love with someone like her? His personality and looks just couldn't compare to what she was. She felt so incredibly lucky.
"Oh! I almost forgot!"
He reached into his coat pocket to take out a velvet box.
"I bought this for you... I hope you like it!"
He handed it to her. She opened it.
Inside, there was a beautiful ring with a puzzle piece charm on it.
Soojin gasped in surprise and delight.
"It's beautiful." She said.
"I have the other one." Jimin held up his hand, where the ring was around his ring finger.
"This isn't exactly a proposal, but it is a promise ring. And I promise that one day, you will be my wife and we will be married. Because you complete me in every way."
Soojin bit her lip to stop the tears from flowing.
"I-I don't know what to say... You're amazing." She smiled really big, joyful tears streaming down her face.
He reached over to grab her hand.
"Just be patient and wait. I'll propose soon."
