Waking up was a pain. Riley was cuddling into my side and Jade was on the other side of me and somehow Tabi ended up on top of us. This was like something you see in a T.V show and not experience in real life but I guess since zombie are real anything is possible. So I did what anyone would do in this kind of situation, I shot up and ruin everyone else's sleep. "What the fuck Jackie" whine Riley, Jade bit my side softly as in what the fuck and Tabi well she was knockout. I laugh at them and get up. "Today is a new day and I need to go see the seven and Riley you are going to train with Claire today," I told her. She sighs and gets up. We left Tabi asleep and Jade got up to cuddle her. It was nice to see them get along, it was like Jade was protecting her. Getting ready with Riley I told her some things that she will be doing today but it just mostly what Claire was going to do. I didn't know what her training involved but I bet it was good. I left her in Claire's hands and grab a quick bite to eat and left for the sevens home. This time, I saw the rookies on watch when I left the school.
Today was a nice day. It was March 31st and today was my mother birthday. It's been close to three months since this all happen and we are surviving. Everything seems to be normal and slow. I was out in the open but I only saw a few growlers. You can get by them fast, they have shitty eyesight and hearing. I was getting closer to the seven when I saw a group of people heading towards CVS. I haven't seen a group like that wondering around in awhile, I guess I should go help them. As I got near I hear some of them talking. "Look when need to find a safe place and to help set this guy's leg," said someone. "Hello uh I can help with that," I said. Who I saw was a female with a short haircut wearing dirty clothes. "How can a kid with a gang tattoo help," she said to me. "Well, first off it's not a gang tattoo and I could just show you if you don't trust me," I said to her. She turns to the other, what I counted, nine other people with her. "Alright kid we'll follow you," she said but she didn't look to believe me. I mean I was wearing some ripped jeans and a hoodie with a gun strip onto my tight and a bat on my back wearing a snapback with a tattoo on my neck. So I can see why she wouldn't believe me. I just turn away from them and walked to the school. It wasn't that far it was about sixteen blocks away because this CVS is on 96th street. Twenty minutes later we were at the school. "Open up rookie," I said to Bobby. He did what he was told and I let them in. I radio the four to meet me in the office because we have new people. I didn't get a reply back but I knew they would be there.
Walking through the doors and down the hall, to the office, I had nine people following me. Jade ran up to be and I petted her and Tabi tries to jump onto my side. I just laugh at her and told her to go play with the other kids. She ran off and I open the door to the office. I step in and saw my four plus Riley. She looks tired and Claire look like she wasn't even halfway done. "Alright this is my crew we are the school, I'm the leader Jackie and if you want to know more about it you will talk to the three brothers and Claire has some teaching to do and I need to see the seven," I said. I was going to bother with explaining anything because I really needed to see the seven and tell them what happen to me the other night. I left them in the hand of Jimmy and his brothers and left the school. Half an hour later I was climbing through the window and making my way to the fifth floor to see them. I was walking by the window when I saw Tony throw a notebook to the window and looking absolutely scary. I walked into the door and hear her yelling in Spanish. I could barely understand her but I wanted to know what was going on so I spoke to Tori. "hey like so what's going on?" I ask. "She is made because the result came back well not what she wants" was all she said. I just nodded and may my own over to Stacy and Iris and I just told them to take a sample.
They looked at me with a questioning me. "Look just does it I have something to tell you guys. And I mean all of you" I said and felt the needle go into my arm. I did not like them but yet I have four tattoos. After taking two samples I got everyone there to shut up and listen to what I have to say. "Ok look some shit went down and something happened to me" and so I explain what happened on that night and I showed them the scar on my side and how it heal up. They look at me with hungry eyes wanted to examine me further. I knew this would happen but I wanted to know what the fuck was going on in my body. Stacy wanted to take another sample and add the growler blood to it to study the reaction of it while Tony and Tori wanted to see how my healing process the-the others were just trying to understand what was going on inside my body on a molecular level. After some time I was poked with more needles and ask various questions about how I was feeling when I felt the change taking place. Then came Tony and Tori making small cuts on my index finger taking note of the healing rate. I had four tiny scars on my right index finger and I was getting hungry and tried. I have some more test but that was about my strength and speed then I would be done and make my way back home.
I didn't really think of the school as a home until now. I wonder why that is. I guess maybe it has something to do with Riley, Tabi and Jade being there. I was feeling something I didn't really feel before. This new feeling was making me warm inside and made my heart beat faster. But then something happens, I felt my teeth poke out a bit and become protective of what I might have gained as an actual family. I started to change because I didn't want to lose them. The seven started to back away to watch me change. I made have not changed much physically but I can feel it on the inside. I can feel my body heating up and my teeth cutting the inside of my month and when it finally stop my body was on fire. "Woah what's going on," said Stacy. "I was thinking of something and it triggers me to change. Like it was a strong need to protect what was mine" I said. Stacy came forward and touch me. "Hot damn you're burning up and your eyes are different color as well," she said. Tony and Tori had this look on their faces like the wanted to cut me again and Iris was already in poking a needle into my skin.
I had to go through another round of tests and it was really late by the time there were finish and comparing notes and samples of my blood. They don't want if I were to bite any of them I wouldn't turn them into what I was or a 'zombie' for that matter. So that was a good thing but I wanted to be able to use my blood as a cure because I can get bitten but nothing will change because my body already mutated to the virus. It was like my genes were rewritten.
After all the test were done I left the seven but they told me to come back in a week's time for some more testing. It was close to two in my morning when I was ,making my way back to the school when I heard the howl of a freak. Damn it was close to close to the school. I radio the school and told them I was going to take it down and not to send back up. Something in me sparks a change and I howl back in challenge. I went running off to it, it was like I near where I was. I was in central park where the baseball fields were and I saw the freak and some tickers. My body was on fire and I felt my body plus with power. I took out my beretta and took care of the smaller ones and when they were gone my change to the freak. I bite into it and it howls in pain. It grabs me and throws me across the field and I landed hard. I get right back up and fought it. I took out a knife and-and started stabbing it. I slash it's throat so it could cry out for help or in pain. I cut places that should have stopped a person but this wasn't a person anymore. It got a few hits and throws because it was bigger than me but that would stop me. For each cut I got my body burn hotter and hotter. My body was smoking when the cut healed themselves.
I was cutting away at it and biting into it and it does the same to me. An hour later I fell to one knee and I took that as my chance to behead it. I use all my strength and pull hard. The harder I pull the more I felt like calling out to any to challenge me. I let it out as I ripped its head off, I let out a strong and powerful challenge for those that are dead and alive to fight me. After I was done I ran to the school cover in its blood and my own. Hank and Abby were on the water towers and they saw me.they open the gates for me and I went straight to the lunchroom as I call in everyone. I stood up on the table to and spoke "tonight I fight the second ever freak and it was close, I fought it and what you heard was me killing it. I got bit by one and something change in me to where if I get bitten nothing will happen to me. I know people who study science and they said that my blood couldn't help make a cure because to them, it look as if this virus was made in a lab." I hear nothing from them it saw the look in their eyes. They all look piss to all hell and wanted to know what was going on. " look I don't know who did this and what is going on but I got people to work on it and soon I will tell the other leaders, we are meeting in two days time and we will make this city as safe as possible." I told them. That was all I had to tell them but I saw the brothers and Claire stay behind to question me more and ask me how I took down the freak.
After talking to them it was now three in the morning and I needed to sleep. I went to the bathroom and clean up and throw out my blood cover clothes. I made my way to the room I was sharing with Riley and Tabi and stood by the door. Tabi was fast asleep and Riley was watching over her. I didn't move from the door because I thought it would be dangerous for me to be near them. Riley got up from the bed and walked over to me. She grabs my hand and pulled me inside the room. I didn't want to hurt her or Tabi. "you won't hurt us," she said in a gentle voice. She sat down on the bed and pull me down with her. She pushes me to lay on my bed and cuddling into my side. I was scared and I didn't know what to do. She grabs my arm and put it around her waist. She was now laying on me. She pushes herself up a bit and spoke in a gentle voice and said "you won't hurt us or anyone else in the place because believe it or not you made us family" she told me. I didn't know what to say as I looked in her eyes. I could see partially in the dark but her forest green eyes somehow shine brightly in this dark and I couldn't look away.
She lowers herself and her eyes close slightly. I couldn't move and I didn't want to move. Then I felt it, her lips on mine. Her lips were so soft and gentle that it took my breath away. She pulled away and I followed her to meet her lips again. She kissed me back and I never felt something so strong in my life. My heart was beating but my body wasn't burning in the way that it would in a fight. My body burn for something different. She pulled away again and gently smile at me. "You won't hurt us, I'll be by your side," she said to me and I pull her close to my and held onto her. she held me back and I went to sleep with Rily in my arms and I in hers and it was the best damn night.
"Sir we need to show you something." I turn back around and went into the control room. "What is it?" I said in a harsh tone. "Something unexpected happens," he said to me. "Well what is it," I said in an angered voice. "someone , a female was bitten by a third mutation but did not turn into one herself instead she somehow bonding with the virus, however, it looks like her blood isn't a cure," he said. I look at the monitor and saw what he had made up in the computer file. Her name is Jackie Rivero and is a twenty-year-old female. "We need to study her," I said, "dead or alive I could care less just study her damn it" I yell and walked out of the room. I made my way upstairs to the ground floor. This underground lab was twenty stories below ground and now we have a subject zero to study and turn this into a weapon. He will surely like what we have found.
