"You can totally come over if you want. Joe is out at meetings and interviews all day, so it's just me and the kids," I texted Adelaide as we have been texting on and off for almost a week now.
This past week, I have been working on organising Noah's first birthday, which is next week. Joe, however, has been really busy with filming, editing, meetings, interviews, and just about everything else you can think of, so I haven't been seeing him much of him lately, being as whenever he is home, he is exhausted and goes to bed, or edits.
"Alright! I'll be around in about 15 minutes," Adelaide soon replied.
I picked up the house a little bit and finished getting the kids a snack.
"Mummy, potty!" Noelle whined.
"Good girl, come on," I sat, taking her through into the bathroom to sit in her little toilet seat.
She has been on and off with potty-training, sometimes remembering and other times, totally forgetting.
"Don't forget to wash your hands," I reminded her, lifting her up to the sink.
About twenty minutes later, Adelaide arrived and came inside.
"How are you?" I smiled, giving her a hug.
"I'm doing alright, how are you holding up? Busy?"
"Yeah, the kids have been a handful recently," I laughed lightly.
"They are both getting in that toddler stage, huh?" She joked.
"Exactly," I laughed, "Anyway, want anything to drink? Eat?" I offered.
"No, I'm alright, thanks," Adelaide smiled.
We sat down on the sofa and the kids played with their toys as we chatted.
"How are you and Bill?"
"Good, a bit stressed. I think we're still getting over the fact that I can't have kids."
"I'm sorry. Have you looked into having a surrogate anymore?" I asked.
"Yeah, I think I may have found someone through an agency. I'm not sure how I feel about her yet though," Adelaide shrugged, "And well, I know this is a lot to ask, but I was wondering if, maybe, uhm, you would like to be my surrogate? It wouldn't have to be very soon and I know it's a lot to think about."
"Joe and I actually discussed this a bit," I explained, "And at first, I was skeptical, but I mean, I don't see why not. I know it's very serious and a lot of responsibility, but if Joe will support me too, I don't see why I shouldn't."
"Oh my God! Really?!" Adelaide said in shock.
"Yeah, if that's what you want," I nodded happily.
"Minx, oh my God!" Adelaide squealed, crying from happiness.
"Don't cry!" I giggled.
"Are you sure?!" Adelaide said, giving me a hug.
"Yes!" I laughed.
"Oh my God!" Adelaide breathed, wiping her eyes, "Of course Bill and I will give you compensation."
"We'll discuss that later," I shook my head.
"Minx, are you sure Joe's okay with this?"
"Adelaide, he was the one who was encouraging it," I laughed.
"Oh my God! I'm so f.ucking excited! Oops! Sorry for my language," Adelaide laughed.
"Please! It's unfortunately almost common language in our household," I laughed lightly.
"Same with Bill and I," Adelaide smiled.
"Mama!" Noah whined, standing and bouncing on his feet.
"Oh come on," I said, "Excuse me, someone has a dirty nappy."
Adelaide and I continued chatting as she followed me while I changed Noah's nappy and she casually looked at Noah's room. Afterwards, I showed her Noelle's room and then Joe's and I's room.
"No way! Bill and I have the same lamps in our room," Adelaide laughed, pointing to the lamps on our bedside tables.
"Oh God!" I laughed.
We relaxed and chatted for a while, ate a few snacks and just had each others company. I showed Adelaide a few of Joe's videos as she showed interest in the whole YouTube business.
"Well, Bill will be getting off from work soon, so I'd better get home and tell him the good news!" Adelaide cheered, "Thank you again Minx, and if you change your mind, don't feel uncomfortable to tell me," She nodded.
"Don't worry about it," I laughed, carrying Noah on my hip as I walked her to the door.
"Alright, well I'll definitely be in touch, bye," She smiled as she left.
I went back inside and sat on the sofa.
I just agreed to be pregnant for someone else.
"Mummy, where Daddy? Noelle fussed.
"At work, baby," I cooed, pushing her hair out of her face, "Maybe tomorrow I'll take you and Noah out for a bit."
"No! Want Daddy!" Noelle fussed, crying as she threw a small temper tantrum.
"He'll be home soon," I said softly, picking her up.
I checked my phone and had actually just gotten a text from Joe.
"Final interview almost done. Be home in about an hour."
I didn't bother replying as I was too focused on consoling Noelle.
"Daddy's on his way home soon!" I smiled happily.
"Now!" Noelle yelled.
"Shh, baby please," I hummed, feeling a bit overwhelmed.
Noah was tired from skipping his nap today, my fault, and started crying too.
"Shh, it's okay," I hummed, trying to get them both to stop crying.
"Hey, come on, I'll put on a film and you can lay in Mummy and Daddy's bed, yeah?" I smiled excitedly.
Noelle slowly stopped crying and nodded her head, still wiping her tears off her cheeks.
"Come on," I smiled, carrying Noah through to Joe's and I's room while Noelle followed behind.
I don't know why, but the kids love being able to sleep in Joe's and I's bed with us. I don't understand the appeal, but if it makes them happy at this point, I don't mind.
"S.hit, you haven't eaten dinner, that's probably why you're both fussy as well," I said.
I set up the film for them to watch on my laptop in front of them, which they were quickly entertained by, as we usually don't have them watch too many films, but rather have them play, so then films are a real treat for them.
I went into the kitchen and made some easy dinner for them and took it through on plates.
"Eat carefully, okay?" I smiled, handing Noelle her plate.
I held Noah on my lap as he picked at his food and I fed him a little bit too.
Before the movie had even finished, both the kids had eaten and fallen asleep. Noah fell asleep in my lap, so I gently laid him next to Noelle and closed the laptop, moving it off the bed, then I took the plates through into the kitchen and cleaned them thoroughly.
"Hello!" Joe smiled as he walked inside.
"Hi," I grinned, happy to see Joe.
"How are you, m'love?" He said playfully.
"Tired," I smiled as he pulled me in for a hug.
"Are the babies in bed?"
"Yeah, in our bed. They were having a hard evening, so I put on a film and let them watch it in our room."
"Okay," Joe nodded.
"Anyway, how were your meetings?"
"Good, well, busy," Joe nodded.
"You didn't wake me up when you left this morning," I pouted playfully.
"Well, you've been tired from watching the kids and you looked so peaceful, so I just left you asleep."
I nodded and gave him a soft kiss.
"So, what did you and the kids do today?"
"Well, we stayed at home and Adelaide came over for a while and we chatted and relaxed. Oh, and I told her that I'd be willing to be her surrogate."
"That's awesome," Joe smiled, "I'm so proud of you."
"I haven't done anything yet," I giggled lightly.
"Even still. It's very selfless of you," Joe smiled, giving me a kiss.
"I'm exhausted, let's go to bed," I hummed.
"Sounds good," Joe agreed, letting out a yawn.
"Oh, have you eaten this evening?"
"Yeah, they fed me at the interview," Joe nodded.
"Okay."
We went into our room and carefully carried the kids into their rooms.
"Daddy?" Noelle hummed tiredly.
"Hi baby girl," Joe smiled.
Noelle soon fell back to sleep and we left her room and got into bed and we both quickly fell asleep.
