Chapter 3

After dinner, Lily, Alice, Marlene, Mary, and I all headed up to the Gryffindor common room. We sat by the fire for quite sometime before one by one they slowly went to bed.

The last of the four was Mary, but she eventually said to me, "Leah, it's really awesome that you decided to start hanging out with us," with a smile and went to bed.

I hadn't been sitting alone for long before a loud group of eight entered the common room, all laughing. Four of which were the Marauders. The other four I had seen around here and there but didn't really know their names.

The group of the unknown consisted of three girls, and a guy.

All eight of them sat around me. I wondered if they even acknowledged my presence.

Apparently they did because one of the girl who had sat in the chair beside me, leaned over towards me and spoke quietly, "Sorry about disrupting your quite thinking space, but I'm Darcy! Are you new? I haven't seen you around in the common room?"

I smiled at the girl, "I'm Leah, and no I'm not new, I just usually keep to myself, and most of the time I prefer just hanging out in my dorm," I explained to the girl. I looked over her, she had wavy brown hair with blond tips that ended just above her waist, and baby blue eyes.

I looked around me. Potter was sitting in a love seat diagonal to me, Black sitting with him, Pettigrew was sitting on the floor, just feet from the fireplace, admiring the red and gold rug. Then Remus was sitting on the other side of the same couch as me, and there was a girl with dark brown, straight hair, sitting in between Remus and I. I think that she's his girlfriend. Also, one thing that made this girl different from the others was the color of her tie, instead of it being red and gold, it was yellow and black. Why was a Hufflepuff in the Gryffindor common room?

Anyway, there was one other chair containing two people, a guy with spiked up brown hair-- who I think I saw some blue on his uniform--, and sitting on his lap was a tall girl with long dark brown, nearly black, hair and mint green eyes. Also, she had a small diamond stud nose peircing and wore bright red lipstick.

"Hey everyone!" Darcy said loudly and quite preppy. "This is Leah, who is in fact, NOT a new student!"

I felt my cheeks redden with embarrasment. I wasn't used to all these people actually like, well, it's sad to say it, but, talking to me.

I saw Black smirk, probably at my such low level of popularity.

They all said their hellos, and the Hufflepuff girl spoke up, "Oh yeah! I saw her in the Infirmary earlier! Did you get hurt? Oh yeah, and by the way, I'm Tyler."

At the remark about me being in the Infirmary, I watched a hint of worry flash across Potter's and Black's faces, but they both quickly covered it up. Oh this is great, a perfect time to make them feel horrible about what they've done for once.

"Oh, yeah, that. I broke a rib, and was quite bruise up, although I don't exactly remember why," I said, possibly combining the story of what happened earlier with the Marauders, and the incident with the door. Eh, they deserve to feel the guilt.

I pulled my shirt up a bit so they could see the gauze around my torso.

"Ohmigod are you okay?" Darcy asked in a concerned tone.

I nodded. "Yeah, Madam Pomfrey's work, it's like, magic!" I exclaimed. The other girls laughed.

Looking over to Potter and Black, the guilt shone right through their facial expressions. I flashed them a quick grin as if saying, "Ha, suck it."

Thankfully Remus is never really a part of their "fun" because from the few times that I've talked to Remus, he seems to be a nice guy.

I brought my attention to Pettigrew, who seemed to be too lost in his own little rug world to even realize that there's a conversation going on that should make him feel like Potter and Black currently do.

After a while of laughing and chatting with Darcy, Tyler, Bel (the girl with the nose piercing), and Dylan (Bel's boyfriend), I decided that it was time to go up to my dorm and sleep.

So, that's what I did.

As I laid in bed that night, I thought of how good of a day today's been, and just how many friends I had made today that I should have made six years ago. Yet as much as I racked my brain, I couldn't figure out why I hadn't.

~*~

The next morning at breakfast, I got my new friends from last night to come over and sit with Lily, Marlene, Alice, Mary, and I.

Bad news. The two groups hate each other.

It started off with Marlene getting annoyed with Darcy's bubbly personality, then Darcy getting pissed off at Marlene AND Mary because Mary stood up for Marlene. And after a while, it was just Alice and I sitting there awkwardly.

"I really hate fighting," Alice said to me.

I chuckled a bit, "Yeah, me too."

About a half an hour into it, I stood up, "I'm going to class," I announced. "What do you have first Alice?" I asked the small girl.

"Uh, Transfiguration."

I growled. "I have Muggle Studies, well I guess I'll see you later then."

She waved to me before I took off for one long and boring day.

Muggle Studies, like normal, was pretty boring. When I first signed up for the class I thought that it would be pretty cool to learn about the muggle ways, and it could be helpful in case I were to get a muggle job. But now the second thing is really the only reason why I stuck with the class.

After Muggle Studies, I was tourted with History of Magic.

Now, I sit in Transfiguration. It should be illegal to have these classes all in one day.

Lily is to my right, copying down notes at a nearly impossible speed, and Tyler is to my left, doodling in a notebook that she seems to even carry with her to meals.

In the back of us are Remus, Potter, and Black. Potter and Black talking away about something that's probably extremely stupid.

And here I am, trying to sleep while McGonagal blabs on about some big project that we'll be working on until the end of the year.

I should probably be listening to it, but I'll just ask Lily if I can read over her notes later.

After some time of trying to sleep, I got frustrated with Black and Potter, so I turned around. "Would you two just SHUT UP already!" I exclaimed, although it may have been a bit louder than I aimed for it to be.

"Miss Pattenfield, please turn around and pay attention. Detention, tonight, after dinner, for disrupting my lesson," McGonagal spoke sternly. She was probably my least favorite teacher.

"B-b-but Professor-," I started.

Yet she interrupted, "Enough Miss Pattenfield, no excuses. Now, turn around."

Black then spoke up, "Uh Professor, sorry, her 'disruption' was my fault. I was uh, trying to get her attention."

Oh. My. God. Did Sirius Black just cover for me? What's gotten into him? Maybe it's the guilt of what I made him think that he did? If so, he better keep this up, along with Potter.

"Well then Mr. Black. You and Miss. Pattenfield will have detention with me, tonight, in my office," McGonagal said.

"What?!" I exclaimed. "But he just admitted that it was his fault! Why am I getting a detention too?!"

"Enough already! If I were you, Miss Pattenfield, I would stop trying to win an argument that you will not win, unless you would like me to give you and Mr Black a weeks worth of detention?"

I just shrunk down into my seat, not saying anything.

"Now, like I was saying," McGonagal blabbed on as I sent glares her way. "this project, for some of you, will be the deciding factor of whether you fail my class or not." She looked over to my area. Yeah, I'm not too good at Transfiguration either. "Next class, I will assign all of you partners. Now in front of you, you should have a packet of what you must do in order to complete the project." I looked in front of me, and saw a packet of words, explaining this project and what I had to do. Oh this will not be fun. "You're all free to go, and Mr. Black, Miss Pattenfield, I'll see you here after dinner."

"UGH! I hate her so much!" I yelled once Lily and I were outside of the classroom.

"She isn't so bad," Lily insisted.

"Ha, yeah, if she actually likes you!" I laughed.

Finally, we were off to a good class, potions. That is, after we eat lunch.

A/n Hey! So I'm trying my hardest to make this not like FTMM. I really am! Sorry about the late chapter.

QUESTION TIMEEE!

1. Short or long chapters?

Yep, that's it.

Oh yeah, and to the side is pictures, of, well, the new characters.... and Leah.
