Wow. What were the chances of school being a pain? My first day of school doesn’t make any sense so far. First off the deal with Willow, but we end up having every single class together. Why would they do this to me? I mean it’s not like I don’t like her anything but she hates me. Then I find out that Damien had a huge secret and he didn’t tell me. He’s the new coach’s assistant. This of course made my day.

“Damien!” I yell as I sprint to him.

He turned to see who was calling him. He smiles widely once he realizes it’s just me. I leap forward when I was close enough, letting him catch me into one of our famous twirling hugs. Gosh it is such a relief to find him here.

“Why didn’t you tell me this morning you were working here!?” I say as he swings me around.

He places me back on my feet, allowing us to talk to each other face to face. “Well I wanted it to be a surprise for you. Plus, I knew if I told you, you would look for me for safety,” he nudges.

“Pft! No!” I say nervously. He gave me a look, the look of ‘better tell the truth missy’. “Okay, fine! Maybe I would have looked for you for safety just a little.”

He laughed a little. We turned around towards the bleachers to find Willow and her friend Jonathan. They stared right back at us, willow with the worlds meanest stare, and Jonathan just seemed amused. I turn back around; ignoring Willow and her friend’s weird glares burning holes through my back.

“Why are they staring at you like that?” Damien asks.

“Oh you know, new kid, terrible morning, and a Willow who hates me for an unknown reason,” I shrug. I don’t know what I did to her. I only have protective feelings for her more than anything else. It’s freaking me out sort of, especially since she’s been nothing but mean to me.

“Well, give it a matter of time. You guys are closer than you think,” he smiles at me.

I shrug once more looking up at him. “I guess I better get to play some games huh?”

“Yeah. Go play some volleyball, I know how much you love it,” he says lightly pushing me away.

I laugh and give him a quick hug before I go. Some girls saw me and call me over to their volleyball game. I smile lightly, nodding that I would join them, and began walking towards them. Maybe this will change my day around.

I hear a squeak behind me, causing me to turn around instantly. I find Willow on the floor obviously in a lot of pain. I don’t know what came over me, but I ran to her, feeling oddly protective of her. I got to her side and started helping her up. “Are you alright?” I mutter.

She looks up at me and her facial expression changes. “I’m fine!” she spits venomously at me, jerking her arm away from me.

I stumble a little, but I regain my balance once I feel a strong hand on my shoulder. “Constance, is she alright?” Damien asks me.

I nod as we watch Willow go sit on the bleachers, obviously in a lot of pain. Gosh, why the heck did I even help her? What came over me?

“Who did it?” Damien says his voice angry.

I turn to face him as I shrug. “I don’t know, but why should I even care. Obviously she doesn’t even want my help.”

“You two are going to need each other one day, and if one of you gets hurt…” He trails off.

I look at him with a bewildered stare. What is he talking about? He just simply smiles at me and walks off, leaving me confused.

I on the other hand decide to ignore it and go join the girls who invited me to play.

“Hey, did you guys want me to play with you?” I ask the blonde girl.

“Yeah! Constance right?” she asks.

“Yup, and you are?”

“Naomi,” she smiles. “And this is Lizeth,” she points to a girl with pitch black hair. I smile at her, but she just gives me a small grin back.

We play for a little in silence until Naomi starts talking. “So, why did you decide to help Willow?” she asks.

“Why wouldn’t I? She hasn’t done any harm to me, so why not?” sure she's yelled at me, and was really mean, and almost pushed me down when I was helping her, but why not help a person in need? That's just the kind of person I am.

“Well she seems like she doesn’t like you,” she suggests.

“Well my brother has always told me what comes around goes around. So if I help people, only good will come, if I’m mean only bad things will happen.”

Lizeth gave me a long look. “You believe in that too?” she says so low that I was barely even able to hear her.

I nod, “My brother and I have that belief and we go by it.”

She smiles at me. “That’s good to hear.”

“Meh,” Naomi says. “Why help people who are mean to you?”

“People can change, plus maybe one day you have to rely on them,” I respond.

She shrugs.  “Oh well.”

After the conversation, we start talking about something else. Lizeth talking more to me and she even invited me to go to the movies with her on Saturday. Naomi wanted to go to a party instead, but a movie sounded better. We play until the end of class, and everything was great until lunch. I guess everyone had a place to go except me, and I couldn’t find Lizeth or Naomi anywhere. I just got in line for lunch, and right before I could grab my tray, a guy swoops in, picking it up for me.

“Hey, I can help you there,” he smiles.

Warm tingles spread throughout my body as we made eye contact. His eyes were a pretty afternoon sun color. It was just breath taking.

“Umm,” I stutter. “Do I even know you?”

“Yeah, you crashed into me earlier.”

I blush slightly at the memory. “Oh yeah, I’m sorry about that.”

We begin moving down the line, him still holding my tray, and by the looks of it, I'm not getting my tray back anytime soon.

“Sooo, your name is Constance right?” he asks.

“Why, yes. What is your name mysterious stranger who stole my tray and won’t give it back?”

He chuckles. “This charming young man, who is carrying this tray like a gentleman is named Jake.”

I roll my eyes as I got fruit from the stand and some tacos. He carried my tray as I slowly grab some salad and some sour cream. I place everything on my tray thinking he'll let go, but no.

“You know that you look exactly like someone I know?” he states.

“Oh really? I’m guessing you know Willow as well?”

“Why yes I do.”

Gosh he talks so proper with me. I haven’t had anyone really talk to me like that besides Jared. And that’s only because we read and watch British movies. I can sing every part and every word from Sweeney Todd. Man… I’m so lame.

I pick up some lemonade, and I wait to pay for my lunch. “Well I’m guessing you are one of the people who torment her daily?”

“No! Why would you say such a thing?”

I felt that he was lying to me, but of course I may be wrong… hopefully.

“I don’t know, everyone picks on her, so why not you?” I contradicted.

I finally reach the register just to hand her a twenty. She gives me a sweet smile and hands me back the twenty. “It’s free for you,” she says. I smile at her and thank her. Jake still held onto my tray, so I had to wait till he finishes paying. Why me?

He finally caught up to me. “Well, I don’t. Why would I?” he says. “Anyways, would you give me the honor to sit with me today?”

I glance around the cafeteria and realize everyone was staring at us. Some people were even whispering. Is this guy that popular? “No thank you, I really don’t need this sort of attention from everyone.”

“Come on, I would really love to sit with you and get to know you,” he pleads with puppy eyes.

I take away my tray from him, “As I said before I don’t need this sort of attention.” I begin walking away. “Goodbye, Jake.”

I find an empty table and begin eating my tacos. Everyone kept staring at me, even whispering. Maybe I should have stayed with him if it was going to get this bad.

Right before i decide to leave to find him, I understood why.

“Willow...” her friend Jonathan warns.

I look at her, watching as her rage slowly absorbs her. I’m guessing this means this is her table; this explains why everyone kept staring at me. Her rage was very clear to me and I don’t know why I’m not looking away from her at this moment. Most people would but this is just so fascinating. How can one person be so angry?

Next thing I know, Damien comes out of nowhere. Is anyone else seeing this? Or is this just me? He was whispering to her and to my surprise she was getting calmer. What the heck is going on? She was slowly relaxing, her hands no longer in a tight fist. Why isn’t anyone questioning this?

When she was fully calm, Damien disappears, no one asks were he came from, and Willow throws away her food, leaving me with her friend.

“Well, there goes this day,” Jonathan states as he sits next to me.

“What just happened?” I ask.

“She’s upset because everyone likes you, they hate her, plus you’re in her seat, and no one sits in HER seat.”

“Is there like a rulebook everyone forgot to give me? And why is she over dramatic?”

He just smirks a little. “No there is no rulebook. And well, she’s been treated like shit her whole life.”

I nod, standing up to go find her. “I’m going to go find her and settle this dispute.”

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” Jonathan warned.

“And why not?”

“She hates you.”

I sigh, picking up my tray, dumping it in the trash, and heading off to go find Willow completely ignoring his advice. As I walk the hallways, I hear the stairwell door slam shut. Must be her.

I open the door to find Jake look at Willow with an evil glare and push her down the stairs. What a jerk! And once again, something took over me as I rush to him, his face full of shock once he notices me. I pull back my arm letting my hand become a fist; laying a solid punch on his nose.

Willow came back up the stairs and shoved him hard enough to hit the door. I actually felt proud at the fact that we worked together. Maybe now she’ll forgive me. When she decided to finally look at me, her face was filled with rage. So much for forgiveness, huh?

“I don’t need your help,” she spat.

I sigh frustrated. What the heck am I doing wrong?! “Look I don’t understand why-“

“You're right, you don’t.” she says cutting me off. “So stay out of my goddamn business, and be sure to tell your coach friend if he dares to call me again at six in the morning one more time… he can expect the worst.” She threatens.

She shoves past me and back through the other doors. I groan out of frustration, and began heading back down stairs.

“Constance, wait,” Jake calls.

I turn towards him just to find him standing up, holding his nose. “What do you want?” I say harshly.

“I’m sorry I lied to you. I wish-“

“Yes Jake, we both wish for a lot of things,” I cut off. “But now it doesn’t matter, because not only did you lie to me, but Willow now hates me more than ever. Not only that, but I bet you I’m going to get into trouble because of you. So you know what Jake? I’m sorry, but don’t speak to me ever again.” I turn back around and walk out of the stair well.

“Constan-“the door shuts behind me cutting him off for me.

I continue walking, taking turns that I don’t even know where they’ll lead me. Tears form in my eyes, frustrating me more and more. My first day of school and it sucks! I mean what the heck!? Everything is just wrong! I was supposed to make friends, have fun, but nooo. Stupid Jake, stupid, school, stupid Willow!

In my sudden rage, I didn’t realize where I was going until I crash into someone. I fell to the ground landing very hard on my back. By the time I sat up, I couldn’t hold it anymore, I just start to cry, all of my frustration leaking out of me. Gosh why am I such a baby?

“Whoa! Are you okay there?” someone asks. I shake my head in response. My hair was in my face by now, so he couldn’t even see me. “Are you hurt or something?” I shake my head once more. Yeah my back hurts, but that isn’t the reason why I’m crying. It’s not the first time I’ve fallen. “Then why is someone as pretty as you crying?” I felt him kneel beside me. He moved my hair from my face and looks at me with sweet hazel eyes. “Please tell me what’s wrong.”

His eyes were filled with concern and his smile was nothing but curious. I don’t know why, but I couldn’t help but embrace him. I feel him stiffen, shock at my sudden move, but he then wraps his arms aroumd holding me tightly. I cry into him with what felt like a never ending waterfall. What finally felt like forever, I let him go. What kind of girl cries on a stranger? No normal one for that matter!

“I’m sorry,” I sniffle as I let him go.

He smiles a sincere smile at me, this made butterflies flutter happily in my tummy. “It’s perfectly fine, do you want to tell me what’s wrong now?”

I smile a weak smile, “It’s over something stupid.”

“Well I’m all ears,” he says sitting next to me.

Right before I could even speak again, the bell rings signaling lunch was over with. He looks at me with his hazel eyes giving me a small smile.

“What class do you have next?” he asks.

“Umm… I have e-English next.”  I stutter. Smooth Constance. Smooth.

“Okay, since you are new-” he stands up and sticks out his hand, “-let’s get you there before you’re late.”

Kids started to come from all directions, some even stared at us. I look back up at the random guy who was waiting for me. He just kept smiling at me, and I just couldn’t help but smile back at him. I can trust him, I know I can.

I take his hand; his rough hand wraps around my small delicate one as he pulls me up. We begin walking in a comfortable silence to my English class. Why am I so comfortable with this guy? Maybe because he’s the nicest person I’ve met all day long.

“So…” he began. “What’s your name?”

I look at him with my eyebrow raised. “Everyone seems to know my name, why not you?”

“Meh, I like hearing from the person themselves than believe in rumors,” he shrugs.

I smile a little. “Well, my name is Constance. And who are you?”

“Lucas,” he says with a smile.

We arrive at my English class early, so we just stand outside the door, ignoring the weird looks we were getting. “So when will you tell me about what happened?” Lucas asks.

I shrug, I forgot about everything that has happened. “I don’t really know…” I trail off.

“We can, you know, go out sometime,” he says while running his hand through his hair nervously.

Did he really just ask me out? Oh my gosh! He did! I feel my cheeks heating up, getting hotter every second I’m standing there. Gosh I must look like an idiot. He’s so cute though!

“Uh…” my proper English flying out the window because of how nervous I was.

“You know what, you don’t have to if you don’t want to…” his smile slowly falling.

“No!” I say to quickly. Great way to act desperate. “No, wait. I would love to go on a date with you.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, when?”

“Friday, I’ll pick you up at seven?” he smiles at me.

“Sounds great, I’ll give you my address after school.”

The bell rings signaling for class to begin.

“Awesome, I’ll find you,” he says as he runs off.

“Bye!” I call after him before entering the classroom.

As I walk in, I felt everyone’s eyes staring at me. Of course they would, especially since what happened at lunch, I mean who wouldn’t? Jake the top notch guy goes for the new girl who’s a look alike. I head to the teacher’s desk to hand him my papers; then I take the last seat in the back that was all alone. Wow I must look like a loser. Where’s Willow? I thought we had this class together. Wait, why am I even caring even if she doesn’t even want me in her life?  Whatever I have my first date this Friday.

“Constance Brickly, to the front office. Constance Brickly, to the front office,” the intercom rang.

I don’t know how they did it, but all my classmates turned all together at the same time, just to stare at me. I sank in my seat a little, picking my bag up and swinging it over my shoulder as I stand up. I awkwardly made my way out of the classroom, ignoring everyone’s eyes following me. I got lost for a bit trying to find my way to the office.

This shouldn’t be good; it never is. I mean have you seen those movies? Just like Easy A. I mean her whole life changed after one day in the office. Nope this is never good.

I open the door to the office just to be greeted by Nicky, who escorted me to the back where Mr. Longing waited with Jake. The door closes behind me, an awkward silence between the three of us. Jakes eyes watched me as I just stood there. His nose was also swollen, and it was pretty clear that it was bleeding earlier.

“Please sit down Miss Brickly,” Mr. Longing says while waving his hand towards a chair.

I take a seat next to Jake, his afternoon gaze laid upon me. Tingles went through my body. Please stop looking at me.

“I’m guessing you know why you are here,” Mr. Longing says.

“Yes,” I admit.

“Will you like to explain your side of the story?”

I nod, telling him everything that has happened since lunch (except the part about Lucas). Jake just stares at me, listening to every word I say, never once interrupts me, or even denies what I’m saying. His eyes were soft and happy, even seemed sort of excited, but why? I make eye contact with him just to feel sparks fly around in me. Nothing will happen between us, I won’t let it happen because he betrayed me. I can’t trust him. Can I?

Once I finish, Mr. Longing stares at me, weighing if what I said was true. Which of course is; I suck at lying.

“Okay,” Mr. Longing says, breaking the thick silence that surrounded us. “You two have detention after school. Jake this is going to be your first strike, and Constance this is your first and last warning.” I nod. “I am going to call your brother and tell him what has happened, but for now you are dismissed as I talk to Mr. Rozwell.”

I nod, taking my punishment. The final bell rings, signaling school was over. Were we really in here for that long? I stand up, feeling Jakes gaze on my back. “Constance?” I hear someone say.

I turn around, clutching my bag tightly. I look at Jake, his eyes full of true apology. “Yes?” my voice barely in a whisper.

“I am truly sorry. I hope we can be friends,” he says, his voice soft and gentle. This is the sincerest I’ve heard him yet.

“I will accept your apology, once you apologize to Willow,” I reply. I turn back towards the door leaving Jake and Mr. Longing alone to talk.

Now to find Damien; I must ask him what happened at lunch. I run out of the office, dodging kids who tried making their way out of the school while I tried going back in.

By the time I actually got to the gym, Damien was already leaving with all of his stuff.

He turns around, a grin forming. “Hey, kiddo!”

“What did you do to Willow?” I say getting straight to the point.

His facial expression changes in an instant. “Don’t worry about it.” His voice was serious. He’s hiding something from me.

“How can I not worry about it? It is obviously something important,” I accuse.

“It doesn’t matter. It does not involve you! You are not allowed to know about it!” he says getting angry.

“Why not!? Why are you hiding something from me!? You never hide things from me!” I yell.

“It is something I am not allowed to tell you!” he growls, his eyes changing colors, but he turns away too quickly to let me see.

“Fine! I thought we were close! I thought I could trust you!” I yell storming away.

I turn the corner, trying to find a way back to the front where Jared waited for me. Gosh why the hell is this school so freaking complicated!?

When I returned back to my thoughts, I crash into someone. This time I fell on my butt. When I look up to see who I crashed into, I realize it’s just Lucas. He rushes to my aid.

“I really need to stop crashing into you,” I mutter as he helps me up. His hands were warm around mine.

He chuckles, “Well I’m glad you did this time; I thought I would never find you.”

“Oh am I that important?” I tease.

“Well you haven’t given me your address yet so I can pick you up for our date, so yes you are.”

I smile, “Oh yeah. Well do you have a pen and paper?”

He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a pen. “Only a pen.”

“Well do you mind if I write on you?”

“Not at all.”

I giggle and write my address on his arm. Once I finish I hand him back his pen. “I’ll see you tomorrow okay?”

He nods, “I can’t wait.” I smile and leave without another word. As soon as I turn the corner to head outside, I find Jake. I stop in my tracks and stare at him.

“How can I help you?” I ask him.

“So you have a date this Friday?” he whispers.

“Um… were you spying on me?” What the heck is this guy’s problem?”

“Going out with Lucas,” he sounds broken, making me want to go to him and hug him, but I stand my ground. I’m not like every other girl here. I will not bend to his every will. “Well I did blow my chance with you.”

“I have to go now,” I say trying to push past him.

He didn’t let me. He grabs my shoulders and stares straight into my eyes. His sunset eyes had nothing but hurt and… longing? What the- “Don’t you remember me?” he asks, his voice breaking. Warm tingles went through my body, but I ignore them.

“What are you talking about!? I just met you today! Now let me go!” I squeal.

His sunset eyes turn lifeless as realization took over. He slowly lets me go. “I guess you really don’t remember…” he says barely enough for me to hear him. “I guess what they say is true…” his voice trailing off as he walks past me leaving me alone. What the heck just happened?

I quickly walk out of the school before anything else can happen. Once I left the school the only person I can find is Jared. I sprint to him, my heart and all my frustration getting ready to overflow. I embrace him into a long hug, letting everything flow out of me. I finally have my rock with me. I realize this is what I looked forward to all day.

“Jared, I missed you,” I cry.

“What happened?” he asks shocked at my sudden tears.

“I just want to go home,” I mutter into him.

He nods leading me to the car and away from my terrible first day of school.

The car ride to the house was a quiet one. Jared knows not to bug me till I was ready. I can feel him contemplating though, weighing the options of what can happen.

Finally we arrive at the house, the silence unbearable. I get out of the car slowly, dragging my feet up the porch and inside the house. Jared put up the keys and went inside the kitchen; I on the other hand went up the stairs to drop off my stuff in my room and to be alone.

I change into my pajamas, which consist of a baggy shirt and shorts. I take off my contacts, and put on my dorky glasses. I change my black Nikes into some fluffy socks, and slowly headed out onto my balcony. I sit on the stone wall, looking out into the forest. The moon shone brightly, lighting everything in its path. A piercing howl broke the silence of the night. Gosh, I hope my wolf is okay. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention earlier that I have a wolf. He likes the name Arkadius (I don’t know I was asking him names he liked and Arkadius came out of my mouth and he nodded). He visits me whenever he can; he always has since he was a puppy. We grew up together, always there for each other ever since I fixed his paw.  But what always threw me off was the color of his eyes which always changed throughout the day. They shone like the skies light, always changing. Always changing with the time of day. He’s my best friend though so I can care less.

A knock shakes me from my thoughts. I turn to find Jared leaning against the white balcony door.  “May I join you?” he asks. I nod, already knowing what this is about. He leans against the balcony, looking out into the forest.

It was quiet for a while, only a howl breaking the silence. Please be okay Arkadius.

“So…” he says. “Tell me what happened.”

So I do without an argument. I tell him everything, including the date (which he raised his eyebrow at me) . From the moment I left him in the morning, to the moment I ran to him after school. Once I finished he just stayed quiet, listening to another howl from my wolf.

He lets out a sign, “Okay, nothing was intentional, so you are not punished. The date is perfectly fine, as long as I meet this guy.”

I nod, “Okay.”

“Come on, let’s get smiling again. I’ll even make you breakfast for dinner,” he offers.

I smile a little at the thought. “Even my Oreo pancakes?”

“Of course! What kind of breakfast would that be?” I smile wider and get off the balcony and right on to his back.

“Onward!” I say pointing towards my door.

He laughs as went downstairs to the kitchen. He cooks me breakfast, and after went to bed. I on the other hand decided to wait to see if my wolf will come. Please, please, come.

I wait for over ten minutes by the back door, and right before I decide to head inside, I hear paws thumping the ground. I turn back around to find the midnight blue eyes I’ve been waiting for. I ran to him and hug him tightly.

“I thought you weren’t going to come,” I whisper to him.

He lets out a small whine, licking my cheek. I giggle while letting him go..

“Come on Arkadius, let’s go lay down.”

He barks a small bark as we head back inside . We go to my room, ready to sleep. I climb into my bed, setting my glasses on the nightstand, and letting him jump in bed with me. I hug him like a giant teddy bear.

“Today sucked,” I mutter my sleepy voice taking over me. “A guy asked me out though, he was actually nice to me unlike some girl named Willow and a guy named Jake. They were so mean.” This time he let out a long whine. “Shhh, it’s okay. I forgive him, I saw the apology in his eyes, but ugh! He makes me feel all weird and fuzzy inside. I don’t know I’m not talking to him anymore. I’m going on a date Friday, try to have fun tomorrow, and make the best out of detention.”

I pull arkadius closer to me. “Goodnight,” I say as I got sleepier. The wolf let out a purr (which really didn’t sound like a purr but still). I let the darkness around me consume me.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I wake up to find my bed empty, but still warm from arkadius. My room was blue from the dawn outside; it has to be already six. I stretch, getting up to open up my balcony door. The birds were already chirping, giving off the new day feeling. Time to get ready for school.

I change into a jean dress that goes up to my knees, some blue converse, and put in my contacts. I went downstairs ate some delicious breakfast, made myself a cup of Joe, and waited for Jared. He’s taking way too long. I walk to his door to find a note.

‘Good morning sunshine!

Sorry I’m not there for you to enjoy my rays of happiness that you enjoy ever so much, but something happened. Have fun at school, and don’t wreck the car mom and dad gave you for your birthday!

Love,

Jared.’

Gosh, my brother writes like a girl.

I smile wide as I realize that I am able to drive myself to school. I sprint down the stairs, grab my keys, I get into my standard buggy, and drive myself to school. When I get there everyone is staring at me, looking at the new girl with a piece of shit Volkswagen. But I smile happily, not even paying mind to any of their snide remarks. I just go straight to my locker, ignoring everyone. As I spin the dial, repeating the combinations in my mind, I feel everyone looking past me, watching someone else. I open my locker, and grab the books needed for my first class.

“Hey Constance,” A voice gently says from outside my locker.

“Uh, God?” I joke already knowing who it is.

I close my locker to find Lucas, leaning against the ones next to mine.

“No, but I’m pretty close,” he winks.

I roll my eyes, even though it was pretty cute. “Whatever.” I turn around walking towards the library.

“Hey, where are you going?” he asks catching up to me.

“The library, I’m going there before class starts.”

“Why?”

It’s my safe haven from weirdoes like you,” I tease.

“Ouch,” he fakes being hurt.

I give him a small push on his shoulder, “Shut up, you’re not even hurt.”

“I know, but you called me weird,” Lucas puts.

“Yeah, you’re just a little weird, but it’s cute.”

We arrive at the library, I turn to him. “I’ll see you at lunch okay?”

“Are you sure you don’t want me to go in with you?” he pleads.

“This is my quiet area, I’ll be fine, I promise.”

“Fine,” he sighs embracing me into a tight hug. “Bye.”

“Bye,” I mutter into his chest.

He lets me go and turns the other way. I walk into the library to find Mrs. Leocadia. She greets me with a warming smile, and shows me the cart to help put away the books. I begin putting away books, looking at different selections. I found some I like (especially the Fallen series), but I leave them for another rainy day.

Once the bell rang, I say goodbye to Mrs. Leocadia and went to class. It wasn’t that bad of a day actually. I didn’t see Damien at P.E. though, and Jake didn’t bother me at all throughout the day; only picking up my books in the always, his afternoon eyes giving him away as vulnerable. During lunch I sat with Lucas, and I was soon found by Naomi and Lizeth. They reminded me about the movie on Saturday (which I totally forgot about) and we actually talked. Lucas walks me to every class, to my locker, and even to detention. Yes, detention. Awkward thing is Jake watches us with his sorrowful eyes.

I hug Lucas goodbye, and watch him slowly disappear down the hallways. I take my seat a table away from Jake. The room was very quiet, and all I felt were Jakes eyes burning on the back of my head. The door opens once more, my eyes shooting straight to the door to see who it was. It was just a very unhappy Willow. Geez, it’s nice to see you too.

She takes a seat next to me, trying to avoid Jake (I guess). The teacher leaves the room saying she is going to go get something from her car. I scoot away from Willow, trying to give her her wish of me staying out of her life.

“I don’t have cooties,” she mutters under her breath.

“Yeah, but I don’t want to start anything,” I reply.

“Well, sorry if we all can’t be little miss perfects now,” she says crossing her arms.

“What? Is that what you think of me?” I question, feeling my frustration rise. She better watch what she says.

“You know what? That’s exactly what I think!”

“Well sorry to burst your bubble, but I’m far from that!”

“Uhhh…” Jakes tries.

“Oh yeah? Is that the reason why everyone calls you the ‘better Willow’? Or even ‘the prettier one’. Everyone likes you ‘because you’re so perfect!”

“Seriously? I bet they would like you too if you were actually nice! But no! You’re always mad for some reason!”

“Girls?” jakes says.

“No because they think I’m a freak!”

“Well you’re not one!”

“Girls?”

“You’re not the one who was found on the roots of a willow tree!”

“No I wasn’t! I was found in a dumpster in one of the freaking alleys!”

“Girls!?”

“Shut up!?” We both yell turning to him.

I face her once more. “All I wanted to do was to become your friend Willow. That is the first thing I said to my brother.”

“Well I didn’t want help!”

“Why not?” I ask.

She froze on the question. “I honestly don’t know,” she mutters after a long pause. “I don’t want people to get hurt.”

“My brother always told me I care too much…” I began.

“Yeah, I ran into him yesterday,” Willow says.

“I never want anyone hurt, that’s why when I saw Jerk face-“

“Hey!” Jake yells offensively.

“Hey you’re the one who’s being the jerk to her,” I shrug. “Anyways, when I saw him hurt you, I felt this urge to protect you, to keep you safe.”

“I know, I put Jonathan trough it every day,” she sighs frustrated.

“Please, Willow, I just want to be friends,” I say my voice pleading. “Can we start over?”

She gives me a long look, contemplating, weighing the options. Something inside me began to stir. Was the lunch just acting wrong with my tummy? No. this is different. I felt light headed all of the sudden, my vision going dark. What the-?

“Somebody get help!” Someone yells.

Then I faint, falling into a dark abyss.
