Marissa POV
It's Monday and I'm kinda scared to go to school. I was trying to figure out what to tell the nosey people that were going to ask questions, if i tell them anything at all. I sighed to myself and decided I'd just cross that bridge when i got there.
I looked at myself in the mirror and realized i looked a little flushed. My throat was kinda itchy as well. Thank goodness maybe I'm getting a cold and can stay home from school.
"No Marissa you will not do this! You will be strong and you don't give two flying farts about what they have to say" I say to myself in the mirror. I made an ill face at my choice of words but shrugged it off.
There was a honk coming from outside. I looked out my window to see Chresanto's car outside. He got out and leaned on the hood. He looked up and seen me watching him. I could see his million dollar smile all the way up here. He waved happily. I waved back and blew him a kiss. As we were silently communicating, the smile on my face was snatched off when i seen my mother walking towards him. His facial expression changed as well. I watched as they had a conversation then Chres got in his car and left. I quickly ran downstairs to see what was up.
I caught my mother as she was walking back into the house
"What did you just do?" i said to her. She locked the door and walked away ignoring me as if i had said nothing.
"Hello! Im speaking to you. What did you just do?" i followed her into the kitchen then she tossed the keys to me. I automatically caught them but I was still confused. She picked up her mug full of either tea or coffee, drank it then finally spoke
"I told him to go to school and to not speak to you again. If you weren't going to break it off with him I'm sorry but i had to do it for you." she said. My jaw fell to the ground. Did she really?
"You can't do that!" i yelled
"Stop telling me what i can and can't do Marissa!"
"This is my life your ruining here"
"No I'm saving your life"
"Well that was pretty stupid considering i still have to go to school with him."
"I know that. And i can't stop you two from speaking then, but i can at least stop him from picking you up in the morning. One step at a time is all i need" she said followed by her sipping her drink. I was just stuck there in awe. She is really serious "I'm sorry Mary. I liked Chresanto and actually thought he was a good kid. I'm not saying he's bad, he's just a bad influence"
"How?"
"He took you virginity Mary. And now you have HIV"
I took a deep breath so I wouldn't yell. After counting to 10 I started to speak "Mom, you think you know everything! Chres didn't take my virginity. I lost that when Jacob raped...I mean was forced to have sex with me. Your smart" I said hoping she'd notice the sarcasm in my voice "And another thing we don't even know if I have HIV or not." She was speechless. I can't believe she just did what she did.
"My decision is final. No matter what"
"Well this isn't going by easy. Im not going down wothout a fight"
"If you say so Marissa" she said raising her mug at me. I shook my head and left
I sped to the school and power walked my way through the building in search of Chresanto. Despite everyone snickering and pointing I still went through the school with my head held high. I found him waiting at my locker thankfully. He was leaned up against it on his phone
"Chres!" I said embracing him
"Hey, i was just about to text you. Did you talk to your mom?"
"Yeah and I know what she did"
"So she told you she threatened me?" i stepped back in shock
"No she didn't say that"
"Yeah something about telling all the colleges that were looking at me about my little situation. She said she would make sure I wouldn't make it in college let alone the NFL if i didn't stay away from you"
My eyebrows shot up while my jaw dropped down. I didn't know my mother was so sneaky and manipulating
"My mom?"
"Yes" he said sadly. I was in complete and total shock. The bell rang indicating it was time for class.
"I'm so sorry Chres"
"What are we going to do?" he asked
"Not break up that's for sure"
Chres didn't look to pleased with that.
"We're not going to break up right?" i asked
"No, definitly not" he assured me. I exhaled a breath of relief.
"Okay. Well while i think of something let's head to class" I said. He intwined his hand with mines and we walked to class.
As soon as we walked in all eyes were on us. Then everyone started clapping. For Chres of course. Shit with all this HIV commotion i totally forgot he won the championships and also got MVP. Even our teacher gave him his props. He also congradulated us on winning homecoming King and Queen. We walked back to our usual seats. I looked over and seen Ray. He had this blank expression while he stared out the window. I looked around the room more and seen that Laney was nowhere to be found.
Then, as if on cue, she came tumbling in. The room got quiet. Everyone stared at her. She looked a hot mess. Her hair was everywhere and in desperate need of a comb and brush. Her clothes didn't match and her make up was half don. She must be gong through the struggle
"What are y'all looking at?" she spat. Even with HIV flowing through her veins, she's still the same bitch as always. She started walking towards her seat
She looked over at Ray then went to sit at the empty seat in front of him. He rolled his eyes in annoyance. I looked at Chres who was on his phone
"Can you please talk to him?"
"No, we have our own problems to worry about. I don't feel like having to worry about him too" he said. I was going to say something else but he gave me a look telling me not to. I shook my head in disagreement but let it go. I couldn't even try to pay attention to what was being taught. All i could think of was getting my mother to change her mind.
[Lunch]
I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do right now. Chres, Jacob and I were sitting at our usual table. I told Jacob all that was going down in our household when Ray came and sat down. Chres didn't like that
"Chres bro can we talk?" Ray asked
"I have nothing to say to you and I don't want to hear what you have to say, so no we can't talk" he said. Chres picked up a frie off his plate but dropped it back down "You just ruined my apetite." He pushed the tray away and got up and left making a scene.
"Damn it," ray mumbled. Jacob and I looked at him.
"So what are you going to do?" Jacob asked
"What is there to do? He won't talk to me and everytime my name is mentioned he throws a tamtrum"
"How do you know that?" jacob asked
"Mary told me" They both looked my way and I agreed with Ray
"It's true. He gets all mad and dismisses the conversation as soon as it starts" i said
"See told you. I guess our friendship is over for real" he said then got up and left.
Then there were two
"So, what are you going to do?" Jacob asked me
"I'm not going to do anything. That is between them two not me. They can go at it. I tried to help but Chres won't listen."
"Oh" he said sadly.
It was awkwardly quiet between us. Then he started to speak again.
"So, how about we hang out after school today?" he asked
"I can't. Chres and I have to figure out how to change my mom's mind"
"Oh yeah, forgot" he shrugged. "Maybe tomorrow?"
"Nope we'll be doing this until we get our results or until my mom changes her mind. Which ever comes first." i said.
Jacob POV
I was a little taken by this whole situation. I mean Chres and Ray were the glue to our little clique. And with Craig becoming all of a sudden M.I.A. and them two falling apart i might as well forget about anything else. I don't really have any other friends besides Mary and she's going to be with Chres most of the time. I mean i have associates but i don't let just anyone into my private circle group i call friends or true friends at that and that's Marissa, Chresanto, Rayquan, and Craig. Then i thought of an idea.
"Hey Mary, instead of worrying about all this how about we all go out to the mall and get your minds off of this?"
"Sounds great Prince" she said looking at her phone rather than me
"Great, my car is in the shop so how about i ride with you?"
"Mhm, okay" she said although I'm not sure if she was paying attention. She was really into her phone
"Okay, i got to go. Chres wants me to meet him in the library" she said getting up and leaving "Bye" and she was gone.
Then there was one.
I sat at the table by myself. This is really weird. I got on my phone and check my social media status. Everyone was talking about everything that went down at the party. I wish I could've been there to see it for myself but I had to take my grandparents to the airport.
The bell rang and I got up to leave. I went to the rest of my classes. Art today was so awkward. I didn't even have the muse to sketch anything. I looked around and Ray had an empty page and so did Chres. He and Mary were engulfed in a deep conversation leaving her work half done. I tried to have a convo with Ray but he wasn't paying attention. No one bothered to listen to me. I hate being the outkast of this whole situation. It brings back bad times of me being by myself for so long.
[After School]
I waited outside in the courtyard for Marissa to come out but she never did. It took a whole hour for me to notice that the student parking was empty meaning she was gone. I started walking my way home because i had missed the bus.
I got to this street light and was getting ready to cross when a maniac came flying down the street almost hitting me. He stopped inches away from me then had the nerve to get out yelling
"What the hell is wrong with you crossing in the middle of the road!" he yelled
"Actually I'm not in the middle of the road. Maybe if you take off those shades you'd see that you almost ran a red light" i said referring to his extra dark sunglasses
We argued a little bit then he said something that sounded familiar, i just hadn't heard it in a while. It was something that... No way this can't be who I think it is. I looked closely at the guy then noticed something huge.
"Craig?"
