It's not like you didn't know that

I said I love you and I swear I still do

And it must have been so bad

Cause living with me must have damn near killed you

And this is how you remind me

Of what I really am

This is how you remind me

Of what I really am

It's not like you to say sorry

I was waiting on a different story

This time I'm mistaken

For handing you a heart worth breakin'

And I've been wrong, I've been down

Been to the bottom of every bottle

These five words in my head

Scream "Are we having fun yet?"

How You Remind Me by Nickelback

Good song!

And now, onto the chapter...

Enjoy!

Chapter 5

Jenna’s POV

“Is this where you live?” I asked Daniel as he guided me to the front door of the apartment number 42 of the complex. He pulled out some keys from his pocket and jammed it through the keyhole.

“Yep.” He said. “Don’t you dare criticize me.”

I shot my hands up in air and laughed. “Wouldn’t dream of it!”

“Good.” He grinned and opened up the door.

“Finally, Daniel. What took you so…Hi.”

My eyes widened a bit at the girl who appeared in front of us. She was in nothing but a thin see-through tanktop and short shorts. Was that Daniel’s girlfriend or something? Of course it was, I told myself. Someone as attractive as Daniel can’t not have a girlfriend.

I forced a smile on my face. “Hey.”

The girl smiled back at me then dragged her eyes up to Daniel. “You didn’t tell me you were bringing anyone back home, Daniel. I would’ve worn something nicer.”

Daniel sighed. “It doesn’t matter what you wear or not, Iris.”

“Yes it does!” She protested.

“I really don’t mind.” I told the both of them to at least stop their arguing. And surprisingly, they did stop and looked at me. The girl flashed me another pretty smile and stuck her hand out.

“I’m Iris. Nice to meet you.”

I shook her hand hesitantly. “You too. I’m Jenna.”

“Nice name.” She complimented.

“Thanks.”

After there, the three of us stood in silence for a while.

“Well, I guess I’ll just go back to my room.” She muttered and disappeared into the apartment beside Daniel’s.

I shot a glare at Daniel once she shut the door. “So you basically brought me here just to meet your girlfriend?”

“Girlfriend? Iris—“

I cut him off, making my way over to his car to get my skateboard out of it. “Well, I’m glad that we met. Can I go home now?”

“Jenna, let me—“

“Unlock the doors.” I told him. He was about to speak again, but I held up my hand. “Do it.”

He started to come over to the car like I wanted. But when he reached over to unlock the doors, he pressed his hands against the car on both sides of my hips, trapping me there. “Let me explain, Jenna.”

I ignored how it felt to have him so close like this and scowled at him. “I don’t want to hear your bullshit. I just want to go home.”

Home?” He repeated. “You know you can’t ride that skateboard home from here. It’ll take you hours to get there.”

I pouted, knowing he was right.

“Are you going to listen to me now?” He asked, leaning in closer to look me straight in the eye.

I shrunk back. I really wasn’t too comfortable being so close to him.

“Are you?” He demanded now, seeing as I hadn’t answered him.

I glowered at him. “It’s not like I have much of a choice.”

“No. You don’t.” He agreed. “She—Iris isn’t my girlfriend. She’s just a really good friend that helps take care of Pheebs when I’m busy.”

I scrunched up my face in confusion. “Who’s Pheebs?”

A grin slowly made its way onto his face. “That’s who I wanted you to meet. Come on.” He pushed away from me and grabbed my hand.

Daniel’s POV

I guided Jenna into my apartment. Her eyes swept over the place and I was relieved that she had a smile on her face.

“This is a really nice place.” She muttered, looking around. “Where’s your parents?”

I clenched my teeth together hard. Of course she’d ask. I should’ve expected that. “They’re going to be gone all night.”

“Oh. No need to be feisty.” She said, digging her hands into her pockets.

I pressed my lips together guilty and was about to apologize when Phoebe came running into the room. She latched herself onto my right leg, wrapping her arms and legs around it.

“Danny! You’re back!” She squealed.

I laughed, crouching down so I could pull her off of me. “Yeah. Missed you, Pheebs.” I said, kissing her forehead.

“Missed you too!” Her smile disappeared from her face when she turned towards Jenna. Shyly, she moved behind me as if I was her shield. Her small hand grabbed my arm as she leaned towards my ear. “Who is she? She looks scary.”

I stifled a laugh and wasn’t surprised to see Jenna with a weird, confused expression on her face. No wonder Pheebs thought she looked scary.

“She scary because she’s an alien.” I whispered back to her.

Her mouth opened as if to speak, then she shut it. “Like ET?”

I nodded. “Yep. She’s ET’s sister.”

“Really?”

“Yep.”

“Hey!”

Both our heads snapped towards Jenna who had her arms crossed over her chest.

“I know you two are talking about me so just spit it out.”

“No, we weren’t.” I lied, grinning at her. She scowled at me. Well, it seemed like I just pissed her off again.

Phoebe let go of me and slowly made her way towards Jenna with curious eyes. “Are you really an alien?”

“What? What are you—“ Jenna’s eyes narrowed and she looked at me. “Daniel.”

Jenna’s POV

I turned back to Phoebe and smiled at her. She was so cute it was hard not to smile at her. “I’m not an alien.”

“But Danny said so.” She protested.

“Well, your brother there is a lying piece of sh—“

“Okay!” Daniel shouted over me. “I’m going to see if I can find those Backyardigans DVDs, Pheebs.”

“Yay!” She squealed.

I smiled, rolling my eyes. I actually love that show.

When Daniel disappeared into another room, I turned to Phoebe. “You’re Daniel’s sister?” I asked her. For a second, I thought she was his daughter. But that couldn’t be.

She bobbed her head up and down.

“How old are you?”

“Seven.” She paused a moment and stared at me thoughtfully. “Are you sure you’re an alien? You’re not green.”

I decided to go along with it since she simply won’t let it go anytime soon. “Not all aliens are green. They come in any shape and color.”

“So they can look like you and me?” She asked.

I nodded and a grin crossed my face when I came up with a good idea. “In fact, your brother’s an alien too.”

Her small mouth fell open.

“It’s true.” I told her. “You want me to prove it?”

“Yes! My brother can’t be an alien!”

I laughed. “Maybe he isn’t. But let’s go check.” I stretched out my hand towards her and waited for her to take it. She did happily. For some reason, this reminded me of my parents. I swallowed down the lump in my throat and took the both of us to where we saw Daniel last. When we came to a door, I pushed it open a bit, revealing Daniel searching the top of his closet. Probably for the DVDs.

I put a finger to my lips and turned to Phoebe. “We have to be quiet. If he catches us and he is an alien, he’ll turn us into frogs.”

When I mentioned the frogs, Phoebe’s face twisted in confusion. “Frogs?”

“Just go with it.” I said. “We’ll have to catch him by surprise, okay?”

“Okay.” She whispered.

I grinned and pushed open the door softly. “Go and distract him.”

She nodded giddily and ran over in front of her brother. She’s a really smart five year old. “Hi, Danny!”

I gave her thumbs up and moved into the room, slowly creeping behind Daniel.

“Hey, Pheebs.” Danny continued searching the top of his closet but managed to glance down at his sister. “Thought we already said hi to eachother.”

By now, I was directly behind him. So close I could feel the heat radiating from off his body. I shook my head to keep from swooning over his warmth.

Phoebe folded her hands behind her back, swaying left and right. “I wanted to say it again…”

“Oh, well—“

I reacted before he could get another word out. I tugged him backwards by his waist and let him fall to the floor. Before he could get up, I climbed on top of him, straddling his hips.

“What are you doing?” Daniel hissed at me, taking a breath.

I leaned down towards his ear, my hands resting on his hard chest to hold myself up. “You’ll see. This is what you get for telling her I’m a freaking alien.” I looked over at Phoebe who was staring at what just happened in amusement. “Okay, Phoebe. Now this is what you do when you want to find out if someone’s an alien.” I raised my hand to Daniel’s neck, feeling the smoothness of his skin. Then I ran it down lower until I felt the collar of his shirt. He let out a shudder beneath me. “First, find his weak spot.”

I moved my hand to the hem of his shirt and slipped my fingers underneath, letting it outline the lines of his abs. His shirt started to rise up as my hands went higher. I felt his ‘you know what’ harden underneath me and bit back a blush that tried to form on my face. Realizing what I was doing, I lowered my hands back down to his waist to do what I had planned to do.

“Then you…” I tickled him. He burst into fits of laughter and starting squirming around in my hands. I laughed along with him and soon Phoebe joined in too.

“Danny’s not an alien!” Phoebe cheered, throwing her hands in the air. “When you tickled him, he didn’t turn into one!”

Daniel grabbed my wrists and held them down as he glanced at Phoebe. “Is that right?” His eyes rose up to mine. “Then I guess we’ll have to see if Jenna’s an alien too.”

My laughter was cut off when Daniel flipped us over so I was now on my back and he was straddling my hips with his thighs. His eyes found and held mine, still with a smile playing on his lips, his hands traveled up my thighs. His touch sent unwanted tingles up my body and by the smirk on his face, he realized that too. Then he tickled me.

I tried to escape from his fingers, but it was hard when he weighed so much more than me. I broke into fits of laughter, my stomach starting to hurt from all of it.

“Stop!” I managed to yell out as he tickled me some more.

“Of course I will.” He grinned and dropped his hands.

I sighed in relief and watch as he crawled off from on top of me and turned to face Phoebe.

“Maybe we should see if Phoebe’s an alien too.” He suggested.

I chuckled. “Yeah, we should.”

Phoebe let out a gasp of surprise as we covered her with our fingers, tickling her like crazy.

Daniel’s POV

I pushed in the DVD into the player and pressed play. The first episode of the Backyardigans started to play and Phoebe stared intently at the television screen. She blindingly  took a spoonful of her rainbow ice cream and stuffed it into her mouth.

“You want ice cream, Jenna?” I asked.

Her eyes snapped up to mine at the sound of my voice and she nodded. “Yeah, sure. What do you have?”

I beckoned for her to follow me into the kitchen. When we made it in there, I walked over to the freezer. “We have chocolate, vanilla, and pistachio left. Which one you want?” I asked, turning to her. I was surprised to see her gazing up at me from the other side of the counter with her chin resting in her hands. She blushed when the both of us looked at one another.

“Why did you want to introduce me to your sister?” She wondered.

I shrugged, pulling out the chocolate and vanilla and shutting the freezer close. She looks like a vanilla person anyways. “I don’t know. You seemed kinda down about your father and all. I thought maybe seeing Pheebs would cheer you up. She always cheers me up when I’m sad.”

Her eyes widened slightly at my confession and then she smiled. “Thank you. She really did cheer me up. She’s really adorable, you know.”

I chuckled, scratching the back of my head. “Yeah, she is.”

“So, why Iris? Why does Phoebe need a babysitter all the time?” She asked. “Are your parents busy with working or something?”

I frowned when she mentioned my parents again.

She must’ve noticed this because she spoke again before I had the chance to. “Actually, never mind.” She made her way over to me and looked at the ice cream pints sitting on the counter. “Can I have the vanilla?”

I handed it to her with a spoon. “It was for you anyways. I like chocolate.”

“How did you know I like vanilla?”

“Just a wild guess.” I told her and started for the living room, but she grabbed my arm. I couldn’t help but compare her touch to when she ran her hands over my chest. It felt good and I’m sure she knew it.

I turned around to look at her and her hand snapped back as if she just realized what she did. She smiled sheepishly.

“One more question. What exactly did you do with the share we took from Kane?”

I narrowed my eyes at her. “Why?”

“Just wondering.” She shrugged.

“What did you do with yours?”

She pressed her lips together. “I’m saving it.”

“For what?”

“You ask too many questions, Danny.” She scolded and pushed past me into the living room. She took a seat beside Phoebe and dug into her ice cream.

I ran a hand over my face and let out a groan. She’s pissed at me again. Just when I thought I had finally gotten on her good side.

Jenna whispered something to Pheebs and she started to laugh. The both of them looked cute together.

At least she didn’t hate Pheebs as much as she did me.
