"Have a family," Eren Kruger declared with a tone of finality.

"Huh?"

"After you enter the walls, build a family."

"What are you talking about? I have Dina...Won't I forget what you tell me before I become a Titan anyway?" Grisha asked, anxiety coursing through his veins.

"That's not always the case. And someone may discover it later..."

"Eh?"

"Your wife, your child, your neighbours if need be... Love someone inside the walls. If you can't do that, it'll only repeat. The same history... The same mistakes... Over and over... You must see it through to save Mikasa, Armin, and everyone else."

"Mikasa? Armin? Who are they?"

Grisha didn't know if Eren was going crazy in his final moments. He was naturally concerned as a doctor.

"Who knows? I'm not sure... Whose memories are those? Who is that other one? ...What does that mean?"

"Eren!"

"Huh...!?"

On a hill, under a tree, Eren Yeager suddenly gasped, waking up. The wind blew through the fields and sent leaves dancing through the wind. The boy looked around.

"...Mikasa...?"

The dark-haired girl's gaze was dull. "Let's head home."

"Why am I...here?"

Mikasa stood up. "You were sleeping that soundly?"

Eren looked troubled, unable to remember. "No...It just feels like I was having a really long dream...What was it again? I don't remember anything."

Mikasa walked over to her backpack, which had loads of sticks for firewood placed on it. She looked back towards the boy and noticed something. Concern washed over her. "Eren. Why are you crying?"

The brunette touched his face. "Huh?"

The wind's gusts became stronger before transitioning to burning timber and falling ash.

"MOM!"

"MOM!"

Their breaths were heavy, baited, panting, panicked, horrified. Eren's mother was buried under rubble, her legs crushed from underneath. Mikasa and Eren looked on in anguish.

"Mikasa! Hold that side! We'll lift the pillar!"

With all the strength that their small bodies could muster, they attempted to lift the rubble crushing their mother's body. It was to no avail, however, the rubble wouldn't budge.

THUD!

THUD!

THUD!

Eren gasped, temporarily distracted from freeing his mother, and looked up to the surrounding Shiganshina. Titans were crawling everywhere and...One was coming towards their house...

THUD!

THUD!

THUD!

With fear and copious amounts of anxiety coursing through his veins, Eren focused back on freeing his mother, his voice shaking.

"Hurry Mikasa!"

"I'm trying!"

Carla's brown eyes were shaking, her voice soft, a small hint of fear lacing it. "The Titans have come inside, have they? Eren! Take Mikasa and run away! Hurry!"

His body strained, his hands filled with splinters and bruises. His voice too, was in pain. "I won't run away! Get up already!"

"My legs are crushed under the rubble. Even if I get out of here, I cannot run. You understand, right?"

Eren's green eyes filled with tears, as the reality of the situation became ever more clear. The titan, with blonde hair and a wide smile, drew nearer.

"I'LL RUN AWAY CARRYING YOU!"

"Why don't you ever listen to what I tell you!? AT LEAST LISTEN TO MY LAST REQUEST!!"

Tears were threatening to pour out of all of their eyes. Mikasa's lips quivered as she held her head down. Her facade cracked, threatening to shatter to pieces once again. The two children desperately tried to lift the rubble.

"No..."

"No..."

"No...!"

THUD!

THUD!

THUD!

The titan was getting closer.

"At this rate, the three of us will...Hannes!"

The blonde garrison soldier leapt down, the sound of ODM gear filling the chaotic air. A ray of hope shined in Carla's eyes. She desperately pleaded to the soldier.

"Take the children and run!"

However, Hannes smiled.

"I can't have you thinking I'm that small a man, Carla. I'll butcher the titan and save all three of you!" He started to run, despite Carla's pleas for him to come back only to see...

Hannes, overtaken by fear, just stood there, horrified and in shock. His legs, his arms, his body couldn't move. All the training he had as a soldier was completely thrown out of the window as he stared dead into the eyes of death itself.

So he turned and ran.

"Hey, Hannes! What are you doing!?" Eren shouted as he picked him up. Mikasa was next, being swept up from under her feet and carried.

Eren's pleas for Hannes to turn back rang through the air.

Carla smiled sadly. "Thank you..."

"Mom! Mom is...! Mom is still!"

"EREN! MIKASA! YOU TWO NEED TO LIVE ON!"

Eren reached his hand out toward his mother, forever out of reach, never to touch hands again.

As they got further and further away, Carla started to weep, placing a hand on her mouth. The situation was too much for her mind to handle. She was going to die. There was going to be nothing. She would feel nothing. She wouldn't see her children again. She was going to die...

"Don't go..."

THUD!

CRASH!

The titan was right above her and Eren watched from afar, in complete horror.

The titan picked his mother up from underneath the rubble. Its strength was incomparable to his. It then began to bring Carla closer to its mouth. Mikasa looked away, while Eren kept his eyes on that titan. Tears poured out, as Eren yelled at the top of his lungs.

"STOOOOOP!!"

"So how much is it?"

"Ah, two please."

"Oh, I see. Okay," I mumbled, handing over the money.

"Thank you for your patronage, young man. Enjoy!"

How is it patronage if all the money I have is stolen? Well, I guess it's just someone else's money I'm using. It's their fault, not mine, that they don't secure their cash.

"It's no problem. Thank you for the food."

The shopkeeper smiled as I took a bite of the sandwich. It's not as good as the ones in my previous world, but it made up for it by having salami and cheese. The bread was whole wheat and toasted to perfection

"Wait...Cheese?"

Aren't I lactose intolerant? Most Asians are lactose intolerant...Does this mean my stomach will start to kill itself as soon as I eat this? Was this a bad idea? Am I a bad idea? Are you a bad idea?

I'm joking.

I decided to lay low and not cause a stir, given the recent events of me...stealing, killing, breaking in, breaking out—those apparently cause a stir within governments managing such a small population as this.

The Military Police appeared to be on guard wherever I went. I have to believe that the stunt I pulled at the beginning of my stay here put them on edge.

I have now spent a total of 2 months in this strange world and somehow had looped back to where it all started Shiganshina District. It was still as lively as ever. The colours of the afternoon gave me a sense of nostalgia.

I found a place to eat my sandwich, on top of Wall Maria. My feet dangled atop the wall as I looked into the beyond.

I always wanted to look beyond the walls. The white walls that surrounded my entire existence. To find and experience freedom for what it's worth—to find what the world was like. To prove my father wrong, to prove the White Room wrong.

Now, I'm simply stuck here, no White Room, no father to prove wrong. There's nothing inherently wrong. I'm simply behind another set of walls, the only difference is that if I go beyond them, I'll most likely get eaten. If I were a naive one, I would've sat back and enjoyed interacting with brainwashed people.

However, I have made enemies within my new cage and have enemies outside of my cage. Simply thinking differently warrants the death penalty.

I don't think I'll ever be truly free yet. This is a simple setback I can recover from. I'll simply need to gather some tools and everything will be fine. I won't lose.

I unwrapped my sandwich, taking another glance at my surroundings. There are still no garrison soldiers up here? I would've expected them to do something about a random stranger with a sandwich on the wall, but whatever—

BOOM!!

CRASH!!!

An explosion rocked the ground, and walls, making me lose balance and almost tumble off the side of the walls. Thankfully, I grappled back onto my previous station, my life secure thanks to the ODM gear.

Scanning the area for any clues to where the blast came from—

I don't have...Where is...?

"...I lost my sandwich..."

I hate living here.

Grisha Yeager looked at the chapel in front of him, the remaining rays of light reflecting in his glasses, concealing the emotions he felt at that very moment. He would have to do it. He would have to.

The birds, the crows, the ravens, the symbols of death raced away from his person, flying to a safe place, a place away from the ongoing chaos that was Wall Maria. Word travelled fast, and on the boat here, he heard a rider's dreadful declaration that the wall was breached, and the Titans were coming.

It put even more pressure on the middle-aged man. He knew the Founder wouldn't fight back—he or she would rather let the entire world that was the walls burn to the ground than fight back and stop the mass slaughter of their people.

He breathed out a heavy sigh as he looked at the same carpet that he lifted nearly 10 years ago now. The Royal Family, the true royal family lived and met under there. Under there was where his mission reached its climax, and soon, it would end.

"̸̯͛̋D̷̺͍̔̚ó̸̭̠n̵̡͌́͝'̶͚͎̱̓̎̿t̵̥͎͍̆̆͘ ̶̛̣͇̅ͅg̴̟̼̈́ͅơ̵̹̊ͅ ̴̪͖̏͠͠d̶̼̜͗̀o̸͖͝ẉ̴̢͚͒͑ņ̵̎̆͋ͅ ̸̧͎͐̿͋t̵̡͔́͘h̶̺̑͊̓ẻ̵̳̘͍̄r̷̢͈̱̈́ë̵̢͖͎́̅́.̷̘̚"̸̮̭̈̕͘

Grisha held his head in pain and confusion. Never before had something like that entered his mind. Were those future memories? If so, from whom?

He steeled himself, however, and entered, going down to the crystal cavern.

"̶K̷e̷e̸p̷ ̴m̸o̸v̷i̸n̶g̸ ̵f̷o̸r̵w̷a̶r̷d̶.̸"̵

...

..

.

..

...

"...I am an Eldian from outside of the walls! I'm one of you! I'm a Subject of Ymir!" Grisha emphasized as he approached the True Royal Family.

He saw it, all of them. Children, teenagers, adults. He would have to kill them to steal the power of the Founder. He was a doctor, he was meant to save lives...

"King of the Walls!" He spoke to the one, a female with dark hair, in the center. "Please kill the Titans attacking our walls! Or my wife and children—all people of the walls will be eaten!"

Emotions strangled his voice like a vice. He didn't know the status of Carla, Eren, Mikasa or even Armin. Were they dead or dying, he didn't know.

Frieda Reiss looked towards the ground, her blue eyes looking pained. The man in front of her family didn't appear to be ordinary—how would've he been able to find their secret chapel in the first place?

Another thought rang in her head.

Their enemies have finally come for them. In her mind, she swirled with thoughts. She would do nothing, as it was the right thing to do, yet she couldn't shake the thought of her people suffering.

An old memory flashed before her mind; one of her promising to free the world of the Titans, one promising to not lose to the ghosts of her family's ancestors.

Suddenly, she felt different—it was happening again, but stronger and more pronounced. Something strange took over her mind. Her father used to say that the same thing would happen to her uncle when he was king.

'Historia...'

She remembers lashing out at her precious half-sister at times when this exact feeling came upon her. The times when Historia would try and climb the fence—she would yell at the young girl. Frieda never wanted that, but always felt compelled to do so...

'Why...?'

Frieda momentarily closed her eyes. She then could see it all. She knew exactly what to do.

"We cannot escape our sins," The King of the Walls spoke as she opened her eyes. "The time has come for the subjects of Ymir to be judged."

Grisha gasped, looking at her with despair. He really was going to have to do it. He saw it in her eyes—The First King was there. Complete logic and care for the people of the walls was being thrown out of the window.

He was going to have to kill them!

"Man is far too weak to wield such massive power," The monarch continued. "The tragedy of the Great Titan War has opened my eyes. Someone must keep the power of titans out of human hands."

Karl Fritz spoke through Frieda's mouth. This time she couldn't resist it, fight it—she just kept talking. Why was the First King's will so strong? Or was her resolve always this weak? Why was she so weak?

"If the Founder fell into weak hands, the world would be turned into hell once again. To protect the peace, we must accept our sins. Our only choice is to perish."

She didn't agree with the words but kept speaking. She never agreed with Karl Fritz. Frieda hated that coward her family called an ancestor.

"My home is beside the breach in the wall!!" Grisha cried out. "I live there with my wife, my son and my daughter. The people who live in these walls know nothing of the crimes committed by their ancestors! All because you stole their memories! How can you call this atonement!? Dooming us to be eaten by titans!!"

Deep down, Frieda could relate to this man. She would never allow her family or her dear half-sister to meet such fate, however...

"No." The monarch spoke again. "Because no matter how we may repent, we Eldians will never return the lives we took. What can we do, is never take another life. So long as we remain ignorant and accept the world's rage, we will be the only ones who have to die..."

[I'D LET THIS DRAWING MINDWIPE ME.]

The young woman looked towards the intruder and analyzed him. In some instances, he was looking around nervously, as if to avert her gaze. Somehow, to her, it felt like he didn't want to be here—like something was compelling him to stand there and oppose her.

Frieda thought it strange.

"There's no point in trying to convince me," The King continued. "Even if you take my power, you won't be able to—"

"I know!" Grisha interjected.

"What...?"

"I realize I can't use the Founding Titan," Grisha said slowly, his face hardening. "Each of the Nine Titans is unique in its own way, including my Attack Titan.

Frieda didn't like where this was going. She wasn't experienced enough in her titan form to fight, even after her father hired some martial arts teachers—she wasn't ready. Frieda wasn't ready.

"Ever since its creation, the Attack Titan never obeyed anyone, And now, I know why...It's all been to resist the self-righteousness of the king! For this one moment, it's why we've all been led to this memory! The Attack Titan is capable of seeing the future!"

This was getting more and more concerning as this conversation went on. Nobody told her about this, not even the inherited memories, nearly 2000 years worth, told her about this. No one from the Royal Bloodline knew.

"I've never heard—"

"I also knew you would be unaware of this," Grisha said. "Because even if you are part of the Royal Family, the Vow to Renounce War keeps you from using the Founder's full power as well..."

She knew that. Once in a while, she would get memories of a previous King or Queen going to war. They were able to do incredible things, that she couldn't do. Frieda was always limited in strength.

Grisha's expression then became firm as he pulled out a scalpel from his jacked. "I will eat the Founder AND BRING AN END TO THE ROYAL BLOODLINE! THAT IS THE IMMUTABLE FUTURE!!"

Frieda's eyes widened as the man lifted his hand. She turned to her family; Abel, Dirk, Florian, Urklyn, her mother, and her father. She ordered them to...

"RUN!!"

"̸̡̢̈́̀Ỷ̸̪̽ḿ̴͕i̸̲͐r̸̒͜,̴̲̘̎̆ ̵̲̞̐̅m̷̡̋͗y̶͎͠͝ ̷̥͝s̸̛͖͓ḻ̶̅ä̴̱̳́́v̵̱͋ȩ̶͘.̴̙̫͑̐

I stared at the chaos overtaking Shiganshina District. Titans overflowing the city in the dozens. But that doesn't make sense in the slightest—why are there so many of them concentrated in this area?

Shiganshina is in the southernmost section of the walls—where a majority of titan activity takes place—the south. It would be illogical, and frankly abnormal for this many Titans to be just waiting here, ready for this attack, however.

There were always a few waiting near the walls, scratching at them or following the soldiers as they walked to and from different stations across the walls. But this was too many...too many Titans.

How did they get here?

"Steam...?"

I couldn't catch a glimpse of what destroyed the wall, but I could see a large plum of smoke and steam near the gate. Should I go and see what's there? It wouldn't hurt to look, plus I'm safe up here. Nothing else can get up here.

The walls were massive, the distances even larger, and it took nearly 2 minutes at top speed to get to the gate's entrance.

The steam...I couldn't get a good look at what it was covering, but it was something massive. Why was there steam? Was that a corpse? Why would a corpse steam? Maybe it was a Titan and Titans send out steam when they die? Why did it die, though? I don't see any signs of decapitation or anything.

Why was this titan so large?

Were there different types of titans? Rare ones? It appears to be hunched over—so did someone kill it recently? I don't sense anyone else besides Titans nearby, so unless my senses are being messed with by the moisture, there shouldn't be anyone besides me who could've killed it.

It was strong enough to break the gate...the brick gate...not the wall...

THUD!!

THUD!!

THUD!!

I turned around to the sound of heavy thumping and saw another titan with hair on its head. It appeared to be just walking around for some reason. Why is that? I followed it down its path. It moved to the center, then to the...

What...? Did that Titan have armour? What's that stuff on its body? Where is it—

"The gate...Horse...gate...Giant...Armour...Horse...Horse!"

I started running back towards the inner gate of Wall Maria.

I believe I am able to make my own path. Supernatural, and chance all seem illogical to me when there's logic and rationality behind everything. Even in this world; magic, titans, whatever—they all base themselves upon a logic that can be dissected.

Ah...I really wanted to eat that sandwich...I'm hungry.

Author Notes:

I don't think having Kiyotaka join the military as soon as he gets into the AOT world is a good choice—he can't really hide or live under the radar under the eyes of the government 24/7. Don't panic, though.

We're getting into the meat of it now. Volume 1 will end next chapter.
