Katniss POV- (A few days later)

"Peeta? What are you doing here?" I ask as he walks into the office.

He gives Mrs. Odair a look and she nods, letting him come behind the counter.

I stand up, "What's wrong?" I ask him.

His face looks sad and he gives me a guilty look frown.

"I couldn't just leave without telling you goodbye." He mumbles.

My heart drops into the pit of my stomach.

"What?" I ask him in a choked up voice.

"Katniss, I have to take that job." He says and it literally breaks my heart.

"Peeta, I can't be without you that long and you know it."

He looks at me, "You can, Katniss. I'll be back on the weekends and after two weeks."

"No." I say.

I can't let him go and I am going to throw the biggest fit I've ever thrown.

"Katniss, come on? We need the money worse than I thought and I already told them I would go."

"I thought you told me you weren't going to take the job?"

"Katniss, if you want you can go outside." Mrs. Odair says.

I forgot she was here and that I'm suppose to be working.

I push past Peeta and walk out as he follows behind me.

When we get into the cold, winter air, I feel tears burning in my eyes.

"Are you crazy?" I ask him angrily.

"No, but we need the money. I talked to a contractor about the bakery and they are going to charge way more than we could ever afford."

I clench my fists, "Peeta, I don't care. Get a different job. I'm not going to have you gone for two weeks at a time. I don't care if I can see you on the weekends because I promise if you go, you're not going to have a good next three or four months." I guarantee him.

"Don't you want us to have a bakery?" He asks.

"Yes, but that doesn't matter right now. What matters is Willow. You are suppose to be here for us and you promised me that you wouldn't take that job and you went behind my back and did!" I say, raising my voice.

"Would you rather me work while you're pregnant or be gone when she's here because it's one or the other?" Peeta says.

"Neither. At least not when you'll be gone for two fucking weeks, Peeta."

He sighs and turns away from me, "What am I suppose to do? You'll making more money in a month than I would be at that tutoring job the entire time."

"Why does it matter?"

"I'm your husband. I'm suppose to provide for my family and you've never had a job before and you do and you're making a hell of a lot more money than I could these next few months." He says.

"So you're jealous of me?" I ask him, ultimately coming down to that conclusion.

"Maybe you're finally showing me up." He smarts off.

I roll my eyes, "And your ego can't handle it, can it?"

He looks up, "I guess not."

"Either way, you need to get over it. You're not taking that job and if you do, I'm never talking to you again." I emptily threaten.

He and I both know that's not true but I have to make it seem like I'm serious.

"Then I guess you won't talk to me but at least I'll have enough money to pay for child support." He mouths off, walking away.

"Peeta, are you fucking serious?" I scream.

He shrugs, "I'm sorry, Katniss. I can't not take it. It's only for two weeks at a time. If you want to see me on the weekend, I'll come home."

"I don't want to see you." I say and walk back inside with tears streaming down my cheeks.

"Oh, Kat. Come here, Sweetheart." Mrs. Odair says, hugging me tightly as sobs wrack my body.

"He took a job behind my back and I won't get to see him for two weeks." I cry into her hair.

"Sweetie, he's doing it for you and the baby. Just try to remember that." She says.

"He promised me he wouldn't take it and he lied again." I say in short choppy breaths.

She doesn't say anything, she just hugs me tighter.

It's nice having her back in my life, having a mother figure again.

"Katniss, I think you need to go home." She says.

I break away from her, "I'm fine." I say, wiping a few tears away and sitting at my desk.

I start back on the paperwork I was filling out when Peeta walked in but I just can't seem to focus.

She walks over and sets her head on my back, "Sweetie, go home. I'm going to call and check on you later."

"I can't go home." I say.

"Then where are you going? Peeta's not home so it's okay."

I look up at her and blink away a few stray tears from my eyes.

"I don't know. Maybe I'll go to my friend's house or maybe see if Johanna wants to go somewhere."

"Finnick and Annie will be back next week." She informs me.

I nod my head.

I can't believe any of this.

I can't believe Peeta would pull this without truly talking about it with me.

I can't believe he went behind my back after we agreed it wouldn't work for us.

"Come here." She says, helping me up.

She pulls me close, hugging me tightly again, "It's going to be okay."

I don't say anything after that.

As I walk out the front door, shaky hands and wobbly legs, I call Bristol.

(On the phone with Bristol)

"Hey, Kat."

"Bristol." I choke out.

"Katniss, what's wrong?" She asks worriedly.

"I need to talk to you." I say.

"I'm at home. Can you come over?"

I sniffle involuntarily, "Please?"

"Sure. Are you sure that you're okay?"

"No." I choke out.

I'm not okay.

My husband broke two promises to me in less than a few months and he left and I probably won't see him for a long time and I don't even want to and that's worse.

"Is it something with the baby?" She asks me worriedly.

"No." I choke.

"Okay, I'm waiting on you." She says and I hang up.

I drive to her apartment and climb the stairs.

Of course she would live in the place Peeta and I first lived in together.

I find her apartment and knock on the door, she immediately opens up.

"Kat, come here." Bristol frowns when she sees me and hugs me.

"What happened?" She asks worriedly.

I am sobbing, "That job Peeta promised me he wouldn't take, he took it and he's gone for two weeks. He lied to me." I cry into her shoulder.

"Oh, Kat. Come in." She says, leading me over to the couch.

Carter lays on the floor and looks up at me with confused eyes. She rolls her her tummy and comes scooting over to me, almost getting to where she can crawl.

I sit on the couch and pick her up when she comes to me.

She pats at my face with her chubby fingers while silent tears stream down my cheeks.

"What am I going to do?" I ask Bristol.

"I don't know, sweetie. You're gonna have to tell me more of what happened."

I groan, "You know about the job thing and how he said he was getting one at the school."

"Yes."

"Well, I went to work today and he came by about an hour ago and said he couldn't leave without saying goodbye."

She frowns, "So he took the oil job."

I nod my head.

"I told him if he did that it was gonna be a long few months and that I wouldn't talk to him ever again if he left and he did." I cry.

"You know you won't be able to do that."

I sigh deeply, "I know but I am so mad at him."

"I can tell but you know he's doing it for a reason. It's not to hurt you."

"But I need him here. I'm going to go insane without him."

"Then call him. I could find another sitter in case I had to go to work or I could just call in. You need to fix things and go be with him."

"Supposedly they won't let me be there and I can't stay at a hotel with him." I say but I think he is lying.

"My cousin had an oil job and his family got to live there." She says.

"He said they are out of room there."

She shrugs, "Katniss, maybe something else is going on?" She suggests.

That makes me cry more.

"Why would he just up and leave like that?" I whine.

"I don't know, Sweetie."

"I hate him." I say.

Bristol frowns, "You don't hate him, Kat. Don't say that."

"I hate myself then because I'm stupid." I cry.

I look down at Carter to see her lip trembling and tears welling up in her eyes.

"Don't hate yourself either. It's not your fault."

I groan, "I wish I wasn't pregnant and I wish I didn't like Peeta and I wish we would've never met!" I cry into my hands and that sets Carter off.

I hand her to Bristol and walk to the bathroom.

I cry and cry and cry.

"Kat? Come out, please?"

I don't respond.

"Please? You know that you're not making the baby feel good."

"I don't care!" I yell and that makes me cry harder because I do care.

I love the fact that I'm pregnant and that's the hardest thing because I said I wish I wasn't and I lied about wishing I hadn't have fell in love with Peeta too.

And I lied when I said I hated him and when I said I didn't care if I made Willow sad.

Because I do care.

I care way too much but they are my family.

"Don't be like that, Kat."

"I'm sorry but what am I suppose to do?"

She sighs and doesn't respond.

"You're gonna stop before you make her or yourself or both of you sick. You told me about your risks and I'll be damned if you get it. Just because Peeta isn't here to help you right now doesn't mean you can't do it. You need to take your own advice." Bristol shoots.
