Upon encountering Binna for the first time in the gym storage of their school, Yi-chan perceived her to be an enigmatic and Introverted young lady, likely subjected to torment without any discernible cause, after having fled from the watchful eye of the supervising teacher at the entrance.
However, as he held her hand and they fled from the warehouse prior to the teacher's potential apprehension, he was captivated by her enchanting appearance under the sun. Her lengthy hair, embellished with delicate curls that shone brightly in the sunlight, gave her an otherworldly allure.
Nevertheless, the mere awareness of another person occupying his thoughts caused him to question his emotions. Binna possessed exceptional beauty, making her an ideal choice for any man, yet something prevented him from pursuing her affection.
Choi Se-kyung
He was initially drawn to the girl playing the cello because of her beauty, and this was the main reason why he didn't hesitate to fight for his love for her.
Meanwhile, upon discovering that it was Binna who had bestowed upon him the ill-fated ticket for Se-kyung's favorite band concert, he was taken aback. It had never crossed his mind that Binna would display such cruelty towards him.
However, upon witnessing Binna's reaction to his harsh remarks, filled with rage, he couldn't help but experience a slight sense of remorse, acknowledging that he had not granted her the opportunity to provide an explanation.
He became aware of his actions when he observed her turning back and attempting to depart. Filled with remorse, he pursued her and ultimately prevented her from potentially being hit by the vehicle behind her. It was peculiar that she carried on without being aware of the presence of the car behind her.
Nevertheless, the information he was given regarding the girl upon his return to the ice cream shop had left him in a state of astonishment, confusion, and remorse.
She had a hearing impairment and he had mistreated her.
With great remorse, he exited the restaurant to find Binna, yet unexpectedly came across Se-kyung. Se-kyung had a wide grin on her face, which made his heart race with exhilaration, causing him to momentarily forget why he had left in the first place.
He was jolted out of his reverie by the noise of an umbrella hitting the ground, and as soon as he made eye contact with Binna, he instantly abandoned Se-kyung and pursued Binna in an attempt to apologize. He called out to her to pause, but she obstinately continued walking.
"She has a hearing impairment."
He recalled his actions and realized how foolishly he had been attempting to grab her attention. Consequently, he decided to release her, observing with evident annoyance on her face as she entered the taxi. Meanwhile, he contemplated all the events that had occurred within a single day.
He had an inability to remain motionless; his thoughts continually drifted towards Binna, reflecting on his actions towards her and the way she reacted upon seeing him with Se-kyung.
Therefore, in this exact location, he found himself positioned, facing Binna's school, anticipating her emergence to extend his apology. He would willingly assume a subservient position before her, if necessary, to secure her forgiveness. However, apprehensions arose within him when Binna lost consciousness in his embrace before he could apologize.
He remained by her side at the hospital until she regained consciousness, inexplicably unable to part from her and content with it.
When he exited the hospital after her, emphasizing the need for her forgiveness, he couldn't avoid sensing a genuine incapacity to abandon her in her obvious illness.
What was the reason behind his sudden change of emotions after she glanced at him in that manner during their meal, especially after he had managed to persuade her?
Eun-gyeol informed him about his supposed fate with Binna, although Binna had no awareness of Eun-gyeol's existence. But what if it was true?
Why does his heart race at the sight of Binna's smile? Why does he suddenly experience jitters?
Was he truly in a state of confusion, astonishment, and joy? Filled with anticipation? Upon learning from Se-kyung that it was indeed Binna who had come to his rescue that night when he was assaulted in a secluded tunnel. Nevertheless, his spirits plummeted when Binna declined to meet him on the evening he visited her home to express his apologies, despite dedicating his time and efforts to learn sign language and prepare his heartfelt words.
Why did the pain of her rejection affect him deeply? Why did he merely desire to confirm her presence in order to be certain it was she who had rescued him?
Regardless of the circumstances, upon discovering that Eun-gyeol was now enrolled in the same school as Binna and Se-kyung, he wasted no time in sincerely apologizing to the brunette, aiming to persuade him to rejoin the band. Nonetheless, when Eun-gyeol confessed his feelings for Se-kyung, anger and jealousy overwhelmed him, causing Binna's image in his mind to momentarily transform into that of Se-kyung.
Yi-chan was resolute in his quest to win over Se-kyung's affections, making sure that Eun-gyeol would not come between them. However, when he discovered himself alone with Binna after everyone else had departed, he seized the chance to convey his gratitude and offer an apology to her.
This made him experience a slight sense of relaxation, and with a smile appearing on his face as he perused Binna's sketchbook, he couldn't help but feel even more amazed than before. She was truly remarkable. Nonetheless, his heartbeat quickened and his smile disappeared as soon as he saw a specific illustration - it portrayed him, with his usual smile that rendered him strikingly radiant.
After listening to Binna's reply, he was taken aback, full of astonishment, surprise, joy, and excitement as he sat back in his chair. Perplexed by his own emotions, he couldn't comprehend the reason behind them.
Nevertheless, the mere act of listening to the soothing and kind voice of Binna had captivated him entirely. He was so entranced by her voice that he desired to have mutual feelings towards her at that very moment. However, he was genuinely uncertain about his emotions towards Binna and whether they surpassed his feelings for Se-kyung.
She felt deeply embarrassed, evident from her flushed cheeks and racing heartbeat. Meanwhile, he paced back and forth, contemplating how to turn her down without being overly cruel or harsh, since a simple declaration of disinterest like "I don't like you" seemed too harsh.
However, when she rose from her chair wearing an indescribable expression, he was at a loss for what to do. He recognized that declining her at that moment would cause her pain, and he couldn't bring himself to be so callous. Nevertheless, when Binna handed him the sketchbook and hurried away, it only added to his confusion as he anxiously turned the pages of the compact notebook.
"I know you like Se-kyung"
"I don't care. Because..."
"You own your heart, and I own my heart"
"But we can still be friends"
"If you don't like me because I'm disabled..."
"No" As he flipped the page, Yi-chan vigorously shook his head to indicate that her deafness did not bother him. He simply cherished the fact that her mere presence could ignite a sense of excitement within him, compelling him to desire her proximity
"...you're a son of a bitch, and I'll just spit on the ground and turn around. So you can say no"
Yi-chan found amusement in the events that unfolded. It was evident that he had not anticipated Binna to be the type of girl who would curse without any apparent reason. Her behavior appeared endearing to him.
"Can we become friends?"
Friends....
What was it about that word that both troubled and pleased him simultaneously?
