━━━━━━━━━━ Lucy Gray sits in a bright green field in distant 12. In front of her she watches as two young girls play with their father in the grass.
A girl with (h/c) hair and (e/c) eyes run over to Lucy Gray with a handful of flowers and she holds them out for her.
"These are for you, nana"
"Oh, my sweet girl" Lucy Gray says with a bright smile "You were named after this flower"
"I was?"
"They are your father's favourite, (y/n)" Lucy says making your younger self smile
"Can you sing for me?" (y/n) asks sitting next to Lucy Gray on the blanket
"Of course i can" Lucy Gray says pulling (y/n) into her arms
'The storm come on before its time'
Lucy gray starts singing for the young girl making her smile
"And that you may see sweet Lucy Gray
Upon the lonesome wild"
You wake up with a grasp to see you are back in the woods of the area. You look down at yourself to see you are covered in green leaves.
You are confused on the dream you just had. You don't ever remember meeting your grandmother, or her ever being back in 12, but maybe you did just at a very young age and you don't remember.
You pull the leaves off of your neck and hands turning to your right to see the bow and arrow you had taken is sitting next to you.
You look up to see Rue hiding behind a tree making you stand and grab the bow and arrows and you walk towards the tree she is behind.
"Rue?" you ask and she peeks out a little "It's okay, i'm not going to hurt you" you say giving her a smile
You now sit with Rue in front of a small fire where you have cooked up a small rabbit for the two of you to eat.
You look over at Rue to see she has eaten all the meat off of the bone and she is just looking down at it.
"You want mine too?" you ask holding out your bone that has a lot of the meat still left
"No, it's okay" Rue says sweetly
"Here" you say with a chuckle
Rue gives you a smile as she starts to eat the meat and you sigh looking at the fire.
"How long was it asleep for?" you ask her
"Couple of days. I changed your leaves twice" Rue tells you
"Thank you" you say to her "So what happened when i was out?" you ask
"The girl from one and the boy from ten" Rue says and you sigh happily
"And the boy from my district?" you ask and she smiles at you
"Yeah, he's okay. I think he's down by the river" Rue tells you and you nod "You're boyfriend"
"Yeah" you say with a chuckle and blush "My boyfriend"
"You want to go see him?" Rue asks you
"Is he with Cato and the others?" you ask her
"No. They got all their supplies down by the lake. It's piled up in this great big pyramid" Rue tells you
"Well, that sounds tempting" you say with a smile

The next day you and Rue have come up with a plan. It started off with the two of you breaking off heaps of tree branches and making a huge pile in different locations.
"Now this green stuff is gonna smoke like crazy, so as soon as you light it move on to the next fire" you tell Rue putting another branch on the pile "Light this one last. And I'll meet you back over here"
"Right" Rue says with a nod
"And then I'll destroy their stuff while they're chasing us" you say standing up straight
"We need a signal, in case one of us gets held up" Rue tells you
"Okay. What are you thinking?" you ask her and you watch as she glances down at your mockingjay pin
"Here. Watch this" Rue says and looks up into the trees and she sings a small melody and you listen as the birds copy her
"Mocking jays" you say with a smile "That's smart"
"Back home, we used them to signal the time" Rue tells you and you look back down at her "You try"
You look back up at the trees and whistle a soft harmony and listen to the mockingjays copy the sound.
"Okay so, if we hear that, it means we're okay and we'll be back real soon" Rue says looking up at you
"We're gonna be okay" you say giving her a nod and Rue wraps her arms around your waist "Hey. I'll see you for supper
"Okay" Rue says as the two of you pull away
You nod and the two of you turn in the opposite direction and start to put your plan in motion.
You stand in the bush at the edge of the field looking at Cato and his group that are all sitting next to the pile of supplies.
You look around at all the small platforms to see that something has been dug up out of the ground next to it and you remember what Katniss told you if you stepped off too soon they would blow you to pieces.
"Guys. Guys, look!" Marvel says standing up and you look back over to them "Come on, come on. Look!"
You see he is pointing to a trail off smoke coming from the woods making it known that someone is out there.
"Let's go. You stay guard and don't move until we come back" Cato says to some of the tributes before they leave him alone
The boy sits back down in his seat as the other three run off making you smile. You then watch as FoxFace runs onto the field and jumps over the reburied mines.
She makes it to the suppliers without the tribute seeing her and she grabs a backpack then runs back around past the tribute and into the woods again.
The tribute who is sitting guard stands up as he sense's someone around him and he walks closer to the woods looking around.
You look back to the pile of suppliers to see a bag of apples hanging from the top and you stand up with an idea.
You pull out an arrow and putting it onto the wire of the bow and shoot it towards the bag and just skimming over it but not breaking the bag.
A sigh leaves your mouth and you step out of the woods a little grabbing another arrow and you let it go flying and it breaks the bag.
The apples fall down onto the floor making the mines explode all around the suppliers and you fly back a little at the force.
Your ears are ringing as you look back up to see Cato talking to the tribute who was supposed to keep guard and he snaps his neck.
You grab the bow from the floor and quickly run back into the woods before Cato could see you.
You ears go back to normal as you stop in the middle of the trees and let out the whistle letting Rue know you are okay and you listen to the mockingjays sing it back.
You move towards the last fire the Rue was supposed to light to see it has been untouched making you worried as you look around for her.
"(y/n)!" you hear Rue yell out making you run towards her voice "(y/n), help!"
You keep running towards the voice as Rue keeps yelling out and you see that she is stuck under a net on the ground.
You run over and use the knife to cut off the rope before pulling Rue up off the floor and into a hug.
"It's okay. You're okay" you say to Rue
Rue looks behind you where you see Marvel standing there with a spear and you pull out an arrow and shoot him in the chest just as he throws the spear at Rue.
You look back at Rue to see the spear sticking out of her stomach and she is pulling it out making you gasp as she falls into your arms.
Rue has her head in your lap as she looks up at you with tears in her eyes and you try your hardest not to let out a sob in front of her.
"It's okay. You're okay" you say to her
"Did you blow up the food?" Rue asks you
"Yeah. It's all gone" you tell her with a nod
"Good" Rue says and you watch as tear fall down her cheek "You have to win"
You look up and over to see Marvel on the ground dead with one of your arrows sticking out of his chest.
"Can you sing?" Rue asks making you look to her
"Okay" you say with a sniff and nod at her
"Oft i'd heard of Lucy Gray"
You start singing as Rue looks up at the trees past your head
"And when i crossed the wild
I chanced to see at break of day"
You watch as Rue takes in a last breath and closes her eyes as you keep singing to her.
"The solitary child
No, mate, no comrade Lucy knew"
You stop singing and let out a sob as you lean down to kiss Rue's forehead.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry" you say to Rue with another sob
You move Rue off of you and look towards a field of flowers that is near by and you get up grabbing as many white and blue flowers as you can.
You move back over to Rue's body and you place the flowers all around her and putting some in her hands that are now sitting on top of her stomach.
You grab all your things again and leave one last kiss on Rue's forehead before standing back up.
You take a couple of steps away from Rue's body before stopping and looking up into the tree where you know a camera is.
You kiss three of your fingers before sticking them up in the air looking straight into the camera.
You place your hand down and walk away from Rue's body and further into the woods where you stop at a fallen tree and you sit down.
You let out a angry cry and hit the ground as you continue to sob. You are angry, so angry at yourself, at the capital, at Snow.
Rue was so young, so sweet and caring, she didn't deserve to go like this. All you wanted to do was protect her, protect her like you protected Lily.
"Attention, tributes. Attention" a voice says surrounding the arena making you look up confused "The regulations required a single victor has been suspended. From now on, two victors maybe crowned if both originate from the same district. This will be the only announcement"
"Peeta. Oh, my god. Peeta"
