Melo POV:
I wake up and feel like my body has been ran over by a truck. I get up and go to the bathroom to take a shower. After my shower I get dressed and go downstairs. I go to the kitchen and my mom hands me a piece of toast and my medicine.
"Thanks ma." I say as I take my medicine and eat my toast
"Your welcome baby" She says
I kiss her cheek and go back to my room. I grab my backpack and head out. I decide to walk to school since it's a nice day. When I get to school I go to the gym and wait for everyone else to arrive.
"Hey Melo" Javontae says as he walks in the gym
"Hey" I say as he hugs me
"How you feelin?" He asks
"I'm feeling much better" I tell him
"That's good, you sure you don't need anything." He asks
"No, I'm fine." I say with a smile
"Okay" He says with a smile
We spend the next 30 minutes just talking and playing ball.
"Damn, it's hot as hell in here." Javontae says as he takes off his shirt
"Yeah, it is." I say
I still get mesmerized every time he does that. The bell rings and we head to class. We go our separate ways and we go to our classes. When I get to class, the teacher tells us that we're working in our groups today.
"Ok guys, I want you to write a paragraph about the character you chose to study. You'll have the rest of class of class to work on the assignment and it's due on friday." The teacher tells us
"But Mrs. Meredith, Friday is game day" Kenndi says
"Well then you better get to work" Mrs. Meredith says with a laugh
That's when it hit me. Javontae's first basketball game is on Friday. I'm so happy for him. I'm most definitely gon be there, sick or not.
"Sooo, what do y'all wanna start with?" Saniya asks
"Umm, maybe we can start with the research part." Kennedi suggests
"I agree, we have to find some key things about our character and we can write a summary to work from. Let's find three key things about our character and then we can each research one of those three things. Then when we get ready to write we just put the information in order." I say
"That works" Kennedi says
"Yea, that's a good idea." Saniya says
We spend the rest of the period doing research and writing notes. When the bell rings we get our stuff and head to our next class. We go our separate ways and I go to my next class. I spend the rest of the day in class, until lunchtime comes around. I sit down at our table and wait for everyone else.
"Hey Melo" Saniya says as she sits down
"Hey" I say
"Where's Javontae and Kennedi?" Saniya asks
"They went to get food." I tell her
"Okay" She says
Javontae POV:
After we get our food we go to the table and sit down. We eat our food and talk about random shit.
"So how do you guys feel about the basketball game on Friday?" Tre asks
"It's gon be good" I say
"You nervous?" He asks
"A little bit, but imma be fine." I say as I look at Melo "As long as my baby over here gon be there"
"Of course I'll be there." Melo says "I wouldn't miss it for the world."
"Awwww" Saniya says
"What" I ask
"You guys are so cute together" She says
"Melo is cute in general" I say staring at him with a smile
We finish eating and head to class. We spend the rest of the day in class, until the bell rings. We get our stuff and head home. When I get home, I take a shower and go go to the park, I wanted to shoot a few hoops. When I get to the park I see that no one is there. I go to the basketball court and start shooting.
"Hey Tae, I didn't know you played." Rome says as he walks up to me
"Hey, yea I play a little" I say "Umm, who are you?"
"Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Rome, Melo told me about you" He says as he shakes my hand
"Oh, you're Romeo." I say
"Yea, I'm guessing you already know who I am." He says
"I mean, he's mentioned you a few times, but he don't really talk about you." I say
"Really, he doesn't talk about me" He laughs
"Nah, he doesn't." I laugh
"So do you wanna play a quick game, 21" He asks
"Nah, I'm good." I say
"Oh come on, please" He says
"Fine" I say as I dribble the ball and throw it to him
"Thanks" He says
We play for about 30 minutes and then I decide to head home. I hop in the car and head home. I get home and go straight to bed. I lay down and fall asleep immediately. The next morning, I wake up to the sound of my mom knocking on my door.
"Javontae, get up honey. You gotta go to school." She says
"Ok ma" I say as I roll out of bed
I go to my closet and grab some clothes. I take a shower, brush my teeth, and put my clothes on. A nigga was looking fresh today with my new red Nike tech hoodie and pants. When I get in the car, I drive to Tre's house to pick him up. We pull up at school and get out.
"What's good?" Deion says as he walks up to me
"Nigga nun, what you want" I say
"I just wanted to apologize to you." He says "I shouldn't have disrespected you or Melo."
"Whatever, as long as you keep yo distance from us we good." I say as I walk away
"Ight" He says
I walk into the school and see Ari crying. Her and Deion must've just broken up, probably why he just apologized. Ion care tho, he hurt Melo in the worst way, and Ari, she got what was coming to her. What goes around comes around. I go to class and sit down. After about 5 minutes everyone walks in the room and I see that Melo is the last one to come in.
"Hey baby" I say as I give him a hug
"Hey, what's up?" He says dryly
"What's wrong with you?" I ask
"Nothing, I'm fine." He says
"Ok, well that's good." I say
"Tae, what was that with Deion this morning" He asks
"He came up to me and apologized, said he should've never treated us like that." I tell him "I wasn't going to accept it though, we still on bad terms."
"I mean, it would be cool wit me if you guys were friends again." He says
"But it wouldn't be cool wit me. He hurt you too bad to come crawling back." I tell him
"Ok" He says with a smile
We spend the rest of class just talking and taking notes. When class is over, we head to lunch. We sit down and Saniya starts telling us about the new guy she likes.
"So what's his name" Kennedi asks
"His name is Marcus" She says with a smile
"Well, is he cute" I ask
"Definitely" She says
"Ohhhh, someone's got a crush." Auhrea says as her and Tavon come sit with us
"Sis you ain't even lyin" Kennedi says
"Shut up Kennedi." Saniya says rolling her eyes
We finish eating and head to our next class. We go our separate ways and we go to our classes. When I get to class, I sit down and wait for the teacher to start teaching.
"Hey Tae" Deion says as he sits down
"What's up" I say dryly
"Nothing much" He says
We spend the rest of the class period just talking and laughing. Damn, I know I was mad earlier but maybe it is time to salvage our friendship, all of us. We all were mad at Deion, but I think he is genuinely sorry for what he did.
When I get home, I hop in the shower and take a nap. I wake up about 2 hours later and head downstairs.
"Hey ma" I say as I walk into the kitchen
"Hey baby, how was school?" She asks
"It was good" I say as I sit down and put my head on her shoulder
"You ok sweetie?" She asks
"I'm good, I'm just tired." I say "You know my game tomorrow."
"Ok" She says
We sit there for a few minutes and then I go to my room. I grab my phone and decide to facetime Melo.
"Hey Tae" He answers
"Hi baby, what's up?" I say smiling at the phone
"The sky" He laughs
"Really pa" I laugh "Anyway, I wanted to talk to you about something."
"What's up" He says
"It's about Deion" I tell him
"Ok, what about him?" He asks
"Well,you know how I said he came up to me today and apologized, he said he was sorry for everything and I want to believe him and I think we can all become friends again if we all just hear each other out. I think he was being genuine pa and I want the whole group to have a sit down so we can talk about it at lunch tomorrow." I say
"I guess, if you think he's being honest I trust your judgment." He says
"Thanks babe, I love you." I say with a smile
"I love you too Tae" He says with a smile
"Okay, well I'll let you go, I gotta go take a shower." I tell him
"Ok, bye Tae, I love you" He says
"I love you too" I say as I hang up
I hop in the shower and then I hop back in bed.
Melo POV:
I hang up the phone and I put it on the charger. I hop in the shower and then hop in bed. When I wake up in the morning, I get ready for school and then head downstairs.
"Hey momma" I say
"Hey sweetheart, you want some breakfast?" She asks
"Yeah, sure." I say
I sit down at the table and she hands me a plate of bacon, eggs, and toast. I finish my food and go upstairs to brush my teeth and grab my backpack.
"Bye ma" I say as I walk out the door
I drive to school and see that everyone else is already there. I walk over to Javontae and give him a hug.
"Hey baby" He says as he gives me a kiss on the cheek
"Hi, what's up" I ask
"Nothing much, I'm just ready for this game" He says with a smile
"Same" I say
"Hey guys, what's up?" Tre asks as him and Saniya walk over to us
"Not much, ready for this game" Javontae says
"Same" Tre says
We all laugh and spend the rest of the morning period just talking. When the bell rings I go to class, when I get to class I see Damien sitting in his seat with tears in his eyes.
"Hey, you good?" I ask as I sit down
"No. It's Deion" He says
"What happened?" I ask
"He- he-" He stutters
"What did he do Damien" I ask afraid of what his answer would be
"I had to make a drop last night, but I didn't know those hatin' ass niggas from 24th was there....." He says as he starts to cry "They SHOT MY FUCKIN BROTHER BRUH! All cause I couldn't leave that dealing shit alone!"
"WHAT! please don't tell me he's-" Damien cuts me off
"No, he's in the hospital. In intensive care. They're doing everything they can" He says as he wipes away a tear
"Damien, I'm so sorry" I say as I hug him
"It's cool man, you can't control what others do" He says
I spent the rest of the class period trying to console him, even though I knew it wasn't much help. Damn, this feels like that night all over again. God Deion, please be alright, I won't be able to take another death. It hurts bad enough that she's gone. After class, we all go to lunch. When I get there, I see that everyone else is already there.
"Hey y'all" I say as I sit down next to Javontae
"Hey Melo" Saniya says
"What's up? You good pa?" Javontae asks
"Y-yeah" I say trying to smile, but I just can't bring myself to do it
"Well damn, what's wrong with you?" Tre asks
"It's Deion, he was shot last night" I say as I put my head down
"Wait, he was shot?" Tavon says
"Yeah, Damien told me this morning" I tell them
"Holy shit." Javontae says
"I TOLD Y'ALL BITCHES MY BROTHER GON SPIN!" Ari says laughing loud standing on a table
"Y'all don't think she's talking about Deion, do you?" Kennedi says
"Who else could it be? I mean he did break up with her yesterday." I say
"So that gave her brother motive to shoot the nigga?" Tavon says
"Y'all let's not jump to conclusions" Aushrea says
"Yeah, let's just wait and see what happens." Javontae says
After lunch, we go our separate ways and we go to class. When class is over, we head home. When I get home, I sit at my desk and do homework. About 20 minutes later I hear a knock on my door.
"Hey ma" I say as she walks in the room
"Hey sweetheart, I got your medicine right here." She says
"Thanks" I say dryly
"Are you okay?" She asks
"Ma...." I say with a sigh "Deion was shot last night"
"What?" She says shocked "Is he ok?"
"I don't know ma, Damien said he was in the ICU" I tell her
"Oh my God" She says
"Ma, I can't take losing another friend" I say as I start to cry
"Come here sweetheart." She says as she wraps me in a hug
We sit there for a while and then I get up to take my shower. I hop in the shower and try to take my mind off everything. I spend the rest of the night just sitting in my room.
Javontae POV:
When I get home, I head straight to my room. I turn on some music and just lay on my bed. Damn, this shit can't be real bruh. Why him, why Deion man? He never did anything wrong to anybody. It's all my fault, I should've been more forgiving. He just wanted to make things right with us and I should've let him. I just can't believe this shit bruh.
