Wriothesley's POV
God damn.
Neuvillette's stubborn insistence is without match.
"There will be a wedding!"
"No."
"You can't say no!"
"I'm quite sure I can."
"I'll organize on myself!"
"Can you force me to attend?"
"Neuvillette you stubborn son of a-"
"How many times do I have to tell you that that one doesn't work?"
"Argh! You damn lizard-"
"My true form is more akin to a snake."
"Ugh! How long do you think you can keep doing this?!"
"If you try to figure that out, you will find that I'm quite a patient man, Furina."
"I will kidnap your husband!"
"Oh, please try. I dare you."
This back-and-forth has been going on for half an hour now.
The thing that probably pisses Lady Furina off the most is that while she is getting angry and agitated, Neuvillette's calm tone never once wavered from start to finish.
"Please just give up, Furina. I have an engagement planned later and I do not wish to be late."
Hmm?
Engagement?
Ah!
The meeting with Charlotte!
I think I'm gonna tag along for that one.
Maybe I'll be able to get my hands on some pictures without needing to sit through an interview.
"As if I would give up!"
I think it's time for me to step in now.
"How about we move the wedding to a later date?"
"A later date?"
Both of them looked at me as if I had said something bizarre.
"Right. How about sometime after we have dealt with the organization selling Primordial Seawater and trying to kill me? If I have to have a wedding, I would prefer for it not to be interrupted by an assassination plot."
I wasn't lying.
If there really was a need for a wedding, I would rather not have it ruined.
Lady Furina sank deep in thought while Neuvillette just smiled at me.
"Thank you, Wrio." He mouthed.
I barely held myself back from blushing.
Gods!
That smile is as deadly as always.
"Alright." Lady Furina suddenly spoke up.
"Alright?"
"Fine. Whatever. You win. We'll come back to this when all matters are handled." She compromised.
And that is how you fool an archon, ladies and gentlemen.
I have absolutely no intention of getting back to this.
Ever.
Weddings are just so uselessly troublesome. Plus, Lady Furina would most likely want to meddle.
That would only make it worse.
"On that note." She spoke up again.
What now?
She turned to me and smirked.
"You don't have a surname, right?"
"Right..."
I couldn't be bothered to make on up.
Why is she asking though?
"So... Do you want to take his." She pointed to Neuvillette.
Huh?
Huuuh?
Neuvillette and I just looked at each other full of shock.
Excuse me?
What?
"Just take it." Lady Furina continued.
A teasing smile surfaced on her lips.
"I want chaos. Absolute and complete chaos. So... Take. His. Surname." She grinned.
Can I just leave instead?
-
Somehow, we managed to get rid of Lady Furina after some time.
As for the matter of the surname.
"So... Do you want it?" Neuvillette asked curiously.
"I never thought about it so I'm not sure. Lady Furina is right about one thing though. Me taking your surname would cause a giant mess."
"Create a mess as big as you'd like, Wrio. I'll clean it up for you." He smiled.
Oh.
My.
God!
Can you not drop things like that so suddenly and so incredibly casually?!
I'm gonna have a heart attack!
Though...
I think it would be nice.
Like having a piece of him with me at all times.
"I think I'll take you up on that offer. Besides, since there will be no wedding, we can at least give Lady Furina the chaos she wants." I grinned.
A small chuckle escaped him as he stood up, walking to his desk.
He took a stack of papers from the drawer, handing them to me.
"Here. This is everything you should need."
"Huh?"
Everything I should need for what?
I took a better look at the stack of papers and-
...
"Did you prepare these in advance?"
These are all the documents I'll need to fill out and sign to change my name.
"I did not." He denied.
"Then why do you have these?"
"I'm the Iudex of Fontaine. It is only natural I would have a set."
Sure it is.
"Of course, you would have these ever so conveniently on the top of your drawer too."
"They just happened to end up there after I did some cleaning." He insisted.
Aha.
Sure. Sure.
"Did you want me to take your last name?"
"That is entirely your choice."
"But do you want me to?"
"I never thought too much about it." He repeated my words back to me.
It was just that...
"Neuv, your tail is wagging."
I tried my best to hold back my laughter, but seriously...
He looked like an excited puppy.
As soon as I pointed it out, his whole face turned red and his hand slammed down on the happy limb causing it to disappear.
"That tends to happen from time to time. It has nothing to do with our conversation." He stated.
Of course. Of course.
"If you wanted me to take your last name you should have just said so."
"As I've said before, that is your decision." He insisted stubbornly.
My stubborn little dragon.
So easily seen through.
"Why do you want me to do this anyway? The only result I see from this is, as Lady Furina put it, absolute and complete chaos."
"Naturally, it is to keep pests away. If you have my surname, they would know that you are-"
His words cut off mid-sentence as our eyes met.
Caught you.
"What was that, Neuv? Pests? Is that an appropriate way for the Iudex to address the people of Fontaine?" I asked teasingly.
I fit was even possible, the red on his cheeks turned even darker.
"Wrio... That was..."
"That was what? Jealousy, my dear Iudex? Or was it perhaps possessiveness?"
"Wrio... I..."
Speechless now, are we?
Sigh...
I'll be nice and have some mercy on my innocent little dragon.
"Want to help me fill these out?" I asked, pointing at the stack of documents.
"Y-Yes. Yes, of course."
He quickly jumped up and went back to his desk, as if escaping.
It appears he was trying to find a pen, but...
Pfft!
Hahahahahaha!
He didn't seem to notice that his tail had popped out once more, expressing his excitement.
