Wriothesely's POV
"Want to know how to extend your life by a few millennia?"
Pfft!
"Cough! Cough! Cough!"
What the hell?!
This was the second time today I was forced to spit out my tea.
Sure, it wasn't the best, but...
My tea!
And...
"I really don't have the patience for jokes. If Neuvillette, in other words, you knew something like that, we wouldn't be in this situation, now would we?"
"Well..."
He tilted his head to the side, frowning.
"What?"
"There is a way."
"What nonsense-"
"It's just that even I don't want to go through with it let alone the rational side."
What?!
"If Neuvillette knew something like that why did he-"
"It might end in your death. A slow and painful death." He interrupted me.
"My..."
Death?
Even so-
"Shouldn't he have asked for my opinion first?! No matter what, I'm due at least a proper explanation!"
I've had just about enough of everyone being so damn secretive and thinking they know what's best for me!
He formed again, his eyes narrowing.
"Alright."
Alright?
"Let's start with me then."
"You?"
"Yes, I believe it's better for you first fully to understand who I am before anything else."
That's fair.
"I'm the embodiment of Neuvillette's intrusive thoughts, if you will. The personification of pure instinctual drive actions."
"What?"
"Hmm... Let me put it this way. For example, if you were to suddenly stand in front of him completely naked, what do you think Neuvillette would do?"
What the hell kind of example is this?
But fine.
"He would probably look away and tell me to put on some clothes as I'm being indecent."
"Correct. But somewhere deep within his mind would be me, yapping away about how it is far better to look at you naked and pouncing on you right then and there is a far better option."
What the actual fu-
"Another example would be the time that bastards tried to kill you in your office. The rational side said to disarm, not kill, while the irrational one, in other words, me, the side driven by instinct screamed for him to rip that man apart limb from limb. He couldn't completely keep a hold of himself back then, hence that useless piece of trash's broken wrist."
That was a more acceptable example.
"All in all, I'm the thoughts that he royally ignores on a daily basis."
"People's thoughts don't just tend to wander about." I pointed out.
Translation: I don't trust you.
"Do I have to remind you that the one in question is a very powerful dragon? Dragons are generally more powerful when they act on instinct and not thought. This guy on the other hand would rather weaken his own strength than let go for just five seconds every once in a while. He has been suppressing his instincts for so long that he doesn't even remember how to use them to his own advantage."
"What the hell do you even mean by that?"
"I mean, my dear Wrio-"
"Wriothesely."
"What?"
"To you it's Wriothesely." I repeated.
"How many more times do I have to tell you that I'm-"
"I don't care. You either call me Wriothesely or nothing."
End of story.
"Hah... Fine. If that's what makes you happy."
Tsk!
"Well then, what I meant, my dear Wriothesely, is that it is an instinctual action that could grant you quite a long life. One that matches the length of his exactly, to be precise."
Doesn't that sound highly convenient?
"I'm suspecting that there is a catch."
"Aside from the fact that he would be essentially splitting his own lifeforce in half, the biggest problem is that you would most likely-"
Thump.
My cup fell out of my hand, tea spilling on the carpet, but I couldn't find the will to care.
"Excuse me?"
"As I was saying, the biggest problem is that you would-"
"Not that. Repeat the first part."
Neuvillette would have to do what?
Surely I'm misunderstanding something.
Splitting their own life force in half isn't something anyone should even consider, dragon or not.
"Ah... Perhaps my explanation was lacking."
See?
There was something.
I just misunderstood.
Nothing so grave-
"Essentially, when dragons finalize their bond to their mate with a... let's leave that aside for now. When the bond is finalized, their lifeforce, in other words, their life expectancy evens out. With two dragons this wouldn't make too much of a difference, maybe a few centuries being taken from one and given to the other. For creatures that live for millennia, that really is a negligible span of time. You on the other hand..."
He didn't finish the sentence but the meaning was incredibly clear.
You're human.
If their life expectancy would even out, Neuvillette would indeed essentially be splitting his own life in half.
No...
That...
"That really doesn't matter all that much though. The real problem here is that you would likely not survive-
"How does that not matter?!"
He would be throwing away his life!
He would be doing that for someone like me!
Someone who doesn't deserve-
"I don't see how it would matter. The first question that came up after realizing that extending your life would put you in danger was whether or not he could die along with a few decades later. Pity that suicide is a troublesome matter when it comes to dragons and I have yet to think of anything that would be able to kill a Sovereign aside from the First Usurper."
What...
"He was thinking about..."
Dying...?
With... me?
Why go that far...
"You idiot of a dragon..."
"Hmm? I thought it was quite a good idea though." He tilted his head in confusion.
"How is that a good idea?!"
He would be dead and-
And then-
"When dragons love, they love forever. Even if they didn't die, the pain a dragon would experience without their partner would be worse than death. It would render them nothing but an empty shell full of nothing more than pain both mental and physical.
A dragon's bond is both a blessing and a curse that way. It allows them to better protect their partner, but it also makes them far too reliant on their wellbeing."
That...
That-
"That's far too cruel..."
"Now, if you'd allow me to finish my sentence, you would know that the reason he subconsciously erased even the idea of this from his memories, is that you would most likely not survive it."
Wait...
Then...
"If I were to die right now, would he-"
"No." He interrupted.
Phew...
At least there is one reassuring thing.
"That's why I'm giving you a choice."
"A choice?"
"Do you, after everything that has happened, wish to risk your life and try or if you want, I can go ahead and erase your memories of the last month."
"I-"
I shouldn't.
I really shouldn't.
From the start he had known this was an option and he left anyway!
I wasn't given this option then, so why now?!
Why now?!
After everything...
After he...
And he didn't even come to ask me himself!
This isn't even him!
Not really, anyway...
So I-
"I don't want to-"

I know, I know. Ending the chapter like this is an asshole move, but how could I not end it there?!
It was far too tempting!
Putting that aside, I think it's high time to have a conversation I have to make for every single fic I have.
I.
Don't.
Write.
Smut.
I'm not comfortable with it.
I don't really read smut either. Like sure, I've seen some, I write fanfiction after all, but I don't specifically go looking for it.
If I ever suddenly feel like writing smut you'll be the first to know guys, but for now, this is it.
End of story.
