Du Wei banged the door of his own bedroom, his face flushed due to sweat, "Lan'er! Baby, I told you that bitch drugged me to sleep with him! Please understand, Lan'er."
A stern voice shouted furiously behind the door separating Du Wei and his wife inside.
"Scram! You're noisy!"
Du Wei subconsciously decrease the strength of his fist, using his knuckles to gently knock on the door. When he heard his wife silencing him, he knew that their little child was currently sleeping.
He softened his voice, but not in a way his wife couldn't hear him, "Could you please let me in and see you? I miss you, baby."
No one responded.
Du Wei became increasingly anxious.
He held the door knob, although knowing he had been locked inside which is why he was banging the door earlier on to get inside, he still desperately tried to twist the door open- the metal door knob now clacking noisily across the dark, luxurious hall.
But he didn't knew this would further anger the person across the door.
When Du Wei was just about to raise his knuckles again to tap on the wooden surface of the door, the door suddenly sprung open, and a strong whiff of mixed sweet milky scent and pomegranate fruit swam outside the room, causing Du Wei's heart to sped up.
Lan'er.... Xiao Ming....
It was his wife and child's scent.
He suddenly... really regretted attending that bar for the sake of making connections with the woman, who later on seduced him and spent more than an hour with him on the bed, resulting in him arriving at 3 am all weary and dizzy, hearing vague baby cries ringing in his ears, then he suddenly caught his beautiful wife at the kitchen mixing milk on their baby's bottle.
He had seen him wear baggy shirt and shorts because it was amidst summer, and now his slender limbs and fair skin were all exposed under Du Wei's eyes, causing him to instantly sober and his mood to improve.
But then when he hurriedly approached, about to embrace his wife from behind and get a whiff of his mate's sweet scent, he saw him turning around- shooting him a drooped phoenix eyes, void of any emotion.
Du Wei began to emit cold sweat.
His wife is mad at him.
"Lan'er...... I...."
The loud, mournful cries of their baby continue to echo within the wide living room.
Shen Lan immediately turned his back from him and rushed the stairs, opening the bedroom door across the balcony and shutting it with an earsplitting slam.
A few seconds later, the living room became quiet.
Their baby stopped crying.
Du Wei paled in fear.
That's when he hurriedly rushed upstairs and started to try begging his wife to let him in, sweat continuously dripping down his temple, his eyes widening in restlessness.
Perhaps Shen Lan became fed up due to the repetitive clacking noises, because just when Du Wei let the doorknob go, the door finally unlocked and a gloomy Shen Lan stood in front of Du Wei.
He was looking up at Du Wei, considering he's half a head shorter than the Alpha. His dark eyes stared directly at the Alpha through his scattered bangs, his face was dark as the bottom of a pot, looking totally annoyed and weary.
However, before Du Wei get to touch him and utter a word, Shen Lan turned away from him, back stepped and closed the door behind him, before he looked up at Du Wei again then strode away from him.
He threw him a "Let's talk then."
Du Wei turned quiet while he cautiously followed his wife downstairs. When he started uttering words and hastily began to explain his reasons once again, the shorter man didn't respond to him all the way until they reached the sofa and he sat down while holding onto the armrest.
Shen Lan leaned on the back of the sofa, his arms crossed, glowering at the man across from him.
He only became the matriarch of the Du Family after marrying Du Wei 3 years ago, but he's already treating the literal head of the family so lowly as though he was about to punish a subordinate. Du Wei himself, couldn't help but make himself little. He sat far away from him. Although Du Wei has larger body structure than the petite and slender Shen Lan, he still couldn't help but feel like across Shen Lan, slightly bowing his head and drooping his shoulders.
He wanted to admit his mistake.
He could've avoided that nameless woman to have sex with her. But he had not been strong enough to resist her.
Du Wei always told himself to not follow his old father's footsteps, do not ever try polygamy, and maintain his loyalty to his wife, but he still couldn't stop himself.
This is the third time this has already happened. He would always get himself be caught by omegas, and all of these affairs would then be caught by his strong-willed mate.
The first time Shen Lan sniffed a whiff of another omega from him, Du Wei hadn't been forgiven, but he was given a cold-shoulder- at least he was able to sleep in the same room as his wife and child, though Shen Lan never talked to him.
The second time, his wife also didn't forgive him as he should, and Du Wei was forced to sleep on the couch for 3 weeks this time. But this resulted in his paternal aunts infiltrating in their villa a week later as they started criticizing his wife, which had really angered Du Wei at that time. He thought Shen Lan had been frightened by them since he had not uttered a word during that session so he went all the way defending Shen Lan from his two hot-headed aunties, but then the next day, Du Wei still found himself sleeping on the couch again but Du Wei no longer said anything.
The third time..... This is the third time now, and Du Wei really wanted to slap himself on the face.
No. It would've been better if Shen Lan were the one to do it.
He hoped that if Shen Lan ever resorted to violence tonight, that hit could shake his soul into becoming a better man.
He messed up. He always messes up, and he still couldn't learn.
"Is it hard? Is it that hard to resist?"
Shen Lan's sharp voice suddenly rang. Du Wei's stomach violently churned, his heart beating so loudly that he suddenly began to feel sick. He is sweating, but his hands felt extremely chilly.
Du Wei heard Shen Lan's voice across him again.
"Should we allow you to take a mistress after all?"
Du Wei began to beg, "N-...No.... Lan'er.... It's only you... Y-You're the only one I love!"
Even hearing such confession, Shen Lan raised an eyebrow at him.
Shen Lan had once loved Du Wei. But right now, he feels like he doesn't care anymore.
When Shen Lan went abroad to study while he was still dating Du Wei, he already heard from his big brother- Du Wei's chauffeur, that Du Wei had taken in a male omega who had the same hair color and almost identical appearance as him.....
Four years later, now that they're married and had a child together, Shen Lan had already witnessed Du Wei's affairs that the other thought he had properly hidden from him. Shen Lan already knew who Du Wei is after being together for so many years, the fact he's been doing the same deeds almost every few months to the point that Shen Lan had to spent one week trying to make his heart accept the idea of living with another wife and mistress in this house in the future.
Du Wei thought he had been only caught three times, but Shen Lan had already seen him sneaking out or coming home disheveled twenty times.
And now? Nothing's new to Shen Lan. Shen Lan knew who Du Wei's father was. He had married three wives and five mistresses which resulted in a long-term underground war among the 13 or so siblings for the heir position only for the third oldest, Du Wei, to obtain it.
Shen Lan should've already expected that he will have to experience the same thing as what the old patriarch Du's first wife had experienced.
A pain that you couldn't cry out to vent.
On a positive note, Shen Lan thought with gritted teeth, Shen Lan could take a break from having sex with Du Wei and prevent himself from having a second child. Luckily, though, he had slightly low infertility so he only had one child so far.
At least.... Shen Lan could distance himself from Du Wei, and his love will perhaps, completely wither away if a fellow wife were to start living here....
One-sided affection is already getting painful.
Shen Lan forced himself to calm down.
"Although it's already pointless for me to say this... I will never believe in your words again, no matter how you pester me with your confession countless of times."
"Lan'er!"
"I loved you, Du Wei. I still do until now, but it's no longer to the extent where I only wanted you for myself..."
Du Wei suddenly stood up from the couch and knelt down across Shen Lan, gripping the omega's plump arms, "I will never accept invitations from those who wanted to have a collaboration with us again! I promise you! I will have my assistant go this time! Or my secretary! I will be bringing my work home and stay with you from now on to help you take care of our son! Or... Would you want to come with me in the company so I could look out for you two? Please, Lan'er... Please give me a chance... I will never do it again....."
Shen Lan's heart clenched at the sight of his husband, who always looked domineering and unapproachable when he was in public, but whenever Du Wei learned that Shen Lan had already caught his affairs, he'd beg him with that worried eyes and a fearful look on his face.
He had to admit, even if Du Wei had not been a loyal husband, he's been a reliable husband and great father to his child. The only thing Shen Lan could guarantee is that Du Wei loves their child, and that thought enough at least brought happiness to Shen Lan.
One time there was a maid who had a moment of inattention which causes their one year old child to stumble over his walker and had a nose bleed, Du Wei furiously yelled at that terrified maid, even involving the other maid who were not even in-charge for babysitting their child, for almost an hour before he fired her.
No maid mistreated them. Ever week, their child would receive gifts from his papa whenever he comes home, either toys, clothes, or another playground inside the mansion.
Du Wei pampers their child a lot, he also wouldn't forget to give gifts to Shen Lan. He's also a hard working tycoon, receiving lots of positive comments from his subordinate and business partners. Du Wei is a competent man in his work and a responsible father for his son, which gave Shen Lan more reason to just keep the pain to himself and at least feel grateful for his husband.
The only problem with him is how he would easily get laid by other Omegas, but at this point, it's only Shen Lan's problem to deal with. In other words, if Shen Lan were to throw a tantrum right now, it wouldn't seem right.
And this is what makes things difficult for him.
Shen Lan sighed, his chest somehow started hurting again.
"I'm already married to you... What can I do?"
Du Wei's voice started to soften, "No... No, baby... Don't say that...."
It was only when Du Wei brought a palm to Shen Lan's soft and cold cheeks that he realized that tears had already fallen.
Du Wei proceeded to coo, "Come on, baby.... Don't cry... I'm really sorry, it is my fault. I'm an idiot, I'm also a bad person. I'm such a bad father for our child and a bad husband for my beautiful wife... You don't have to forgive me, it's fine for me... Oh, baby, it's okay, stop crying, I will not go to work anymore, I promise I'll stay here with you..."
Shen Lan could only spoil himself just once and vented out his pain to the literal person who causes it.
He sobbed and sobbed. His body was pulled in a warm chest, and he started to cry on Du Wei's shoulder, causing saliva and snot to taint Du Wei's expensive fabric of a suit, but Du Wei didn't care.
Du Wei tightly hugged the omega in his arm, his nose softly rubbing on his nape, subconsciously sniffing the pomegranate scent as he rocked them both while patting the back of his weeping wife.
