It was currently the day before valentines day. Hermione had been acting weird and it was luna's birthday.
Draco walked into the hallway and into the library, where he sat down at his usual seat. Hermione was nowhere to be seen. it was strange sitting at the table by himself he chose to ignore it.
Instead, he focused on the fact that it was his cousins birthday. Luna would be turning 13. Draco had found a present for her already. It was a butterfly clip with Jules hanging off of it. it was all blue, her favorite color and the color of her house.
He had already put it in the box and wrapped up the present. He was just waiting until later to present it to her.
He stayed in the library for a few hours, getting some studying in and he had to admit that it was quite boring without the Gryffindor girl with him she would normally keep him company. Although they never really talked, it was nice to have somebody with him.
So he opened his books on WereWolfs and got to reading essentially ignoring everybody else in the room.
It was still early in the morning when he finished reading and closed the book. He decided it would be a good idea to go find Luna and bring her the present. he walked back into the dungeons and into the Slytherin house. then into his share, dorm room, and reach for the present underneath his pillow.
He was about to walk out the room, and Theo suddenly stopped him. " do you have any plans for Valentine's Day Draco?" The boy asked.
" I don't Theo why do you ask?"
" I was only wondering because I was pretty sure nobody else was going to have a date either and I just wanted to see if you would."
" well do you have a date? what about that boy Lee Jordan? are you going to ask him?" Theo's face got red clearly embarrassed about the statement Draco made.
He started a reply " of course not I'm not stupid enough to embarrass myself like that."
Draco thought for a moment before speaking "what do you mean by stupid enough you don't think he'd go with you? I think he'd be more than lucky to have someone like you ask him."
Theo rolled his eyes looking down at the package and Draco's hand. " who's that for?" the brunette asked.
Draco shrugged " Today is my cousin's birthday. I decided to get her a gift." Theo seem satisfied with the answer, and left him to leave the room. Draco wondered if his friends really weren't going to have dates this Valentine's Day and decided that he would ask them later.
Right now he needed to focus on his cousin. He walked through the halls of Hogwarts. then, was suddenly stopped by a familiar, bushy haired girl.
Hermione took a look at the gift in his hands and spoke "Is that for your valentines?" Draco couldn't help but snort. Everyone seemed quite interested in Valentine's Day this year. He didn't remember all the commotion last time or perhaps it was different because if he needed a date, he would always just ask his friend pansy.
Draco answered her "no this is for my cousin, the one you met before break Luna it's her birthday." Hermione nodded to confirm that she did in fact, remember.
" yes Luna Lovegood she was quite lovely may I go with you to wish her a happy birthday?"
Draco smiled at the girl "of course I know how much she'd appreciate it. Luna is quite fond of you. She thinks you're very smart. quite a brilliant witch."
Hermione beamed at the words show always seem to enjoy the compliment when involved, how smart she was. Draco knew she put in a lot of work to all the projects and homework she did. He also knew that she deserved every 100 she got. for she really was one of the smartest which is in the year and even in the school.
She turned him " I wish I would've known it was her birthday I would've gotten her something. Do you think should be upset?" Draco shook his head.
He knew perfectly well she wouldn't be upset as long as Hermione was there celebrating with them she would be happy. " she won't mind I know she won't. most people don't celebrate her birthday but if you're there, she'll be extremely excited."
" really do you think she considers me a friend? I would quite like to be her friend because mine are horrible." She seemed upset when saying the last part clearly her and Weasley haven't gotten over there fight.
Draco was concerned he didn't remember them being mad at each other. He always thought they were extremely good friends. "is something wrong Hermione? You seem upset."
The young which spoke "Ron is mad at me he keeps blaming my cat for trying to eat his Rat. It seems scabbers has run away. Ron was convinced that it was all my fault or He seemed convinced that it was my cat's fault. I just wish he would believe me when I said that it wasn't. You know how he can be though quite stubborn."
Draco nodded he was quite aware of how stubborn Weasley could be. He was a Gryffindor, and it turned out to be a common trait amongst them.
" well, what about Potter?"
" what about him?"
" well, aren't you two friends? Does he think your cat ate Weasley's rat?"
She huffed clearly annoyed " harry doesn't even speak his mind he just simply nods at whatever Ron says he doesn't really agree or disagree with either of us. I wish he would, though. it would be nice if he could stand up for me."
Hermione seem to think for a second " I think I wanna get Luna something do you think we could stop by the Gryffindor house to grab something for her?" Draco don't see why not.
" sure I'm sure she'd love a gift from you it would mean the world to her."
Hermione seem thrilled, her earlier sour mood, almost disappearing completely. It seems the Gryffindor had taken quite a liking to Draco's cousin. he didn't remember them being friends in the past, but maybe that would change. maybe all that was needed was a little push.
His cousin deserve quite a bit more than she was given people were rude, and would always make fun of her, calling her loony. Quite frankly, Draco had wanted to curse all those people, but he knew he get in serious trouble if he did. his father was already not happy with the fact he talk to her. he couldn't imagine what his father would do to him if he found out he had curse somebody for her. simply for calling her name, or stealing her items.
They made it to the Gryffindor common room and Draco waited outside by the painting of the lady. Hermione told him that it would be quick, and that she was just going to grab a piece of jewelry for her.
Draco didn't have to wait long but before Hermione made it out, he saw Weasley and Potter.
They looked at him as if he had grown an extra head he didn't realize how weird this must look. A Slytherin standing right outside of the Gryffindor common area simply, just waiting. it's not like they knew why he was waiting and he doubted Hermione had told him that they have been hanging out. He didn't expect her to he knew the boys would get upset especially Weasley. He had always been the jealous type.
Before either one of the boys could say anything to him Hermione came downstairs. " I'm ready to go Draco." she stops suddenly when her eyes landed on the two boys before her.
The look on her face told him that she most certainly haven't told them. And remembering how close it was to Valentine's Day they might think this was a date.
Hermione seem to ignore the other boys and step right next to them towards Draco. Weasley got red while Potter seem to be very confused his dark eyebrows rising slightly. " what do you mean you're ready to go? Where are you going? and with Malfoy." Harry's voice was stiff with confusion he clearly was not very fond of the fact that the two of them we're going somewhere.
"oh, relax, Harry we're going to see Luna." Hermione told him snapping slightly.
" Luna? Who's that? Are you lying because it's almost Valentine's Day are you two going out?" Ron seemed quite upset. his voice crack throughout the sentence he didn't seem to like the idea that they might be going on a date.
Draco couldn't help but laugh a bit sometimes they were very stupid. Weasley and Potter didn't seem to like him laughing very much. so he spoke " today is Luna's birthday she happens to be both of our friends and she had forgotten Luna's present and since we were already going the same way we figured we would just walk together. I can assure you that we are most certainly not going on a date Weasley she's not my type."
Hermione's eyes flickered to him for a second when she said the last part she seemed a little offended he wasn't sure why he knew he wasn't her type either it did probably sound rude though. He really had to work on that.
They both look like they wanted to say something more, but Hermione walked right past them, and grab Draco by the arm, pulling him away. " we shall be heading off now. Goodbye you two."
" not your type? Well, now I'm curious to know what your type is. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to though that's quite all right."
" I have no problem with telling you my type I don't think you'll really mind you always seemed how should I put this? excepting."
" excepting?" She repeated back confused on why he would use that word.
" yes accepting. I don't like girls. I like boys though." he stated simply. watching her eyes and face closely. she didn't seem bothered by it and he was glad. he would hate if something like that came in between the two of them and they're sort of friendship.
" my uncles gay he has a husband actually there's some of my favorite relatives. I have no problem with you liking guys."
Draco smiled at her " I'm glad it would be a horrible thing for you to stop hanging out with me just because of that."
" that would be such a stupid reason to hate somebody. That would be like me hating somebody because of their skin color or because of their blood status." the last part was directed at Draco. he knew he was wrong for the things he had said to some people. he knew there was no excuse. He shouldn't just go around, saying those words because his father did.
" I am sorry for what I've been saying to you. You really are one of the smartest witches here Muggle, or not I think you're quite wise. I do hope you can forgive me for the way I treated you. know I won't be saying sorry to Weasley or Potter. I could care less about their blood status. I just never really like them. They have always been a little stupid."
Hermione didn't seem upset when he called them that she simply nodded in agreement .
They made it to where Luna's house entrance was, and she was standing there back against a brick wall, staring at the two of them .
When she noticed that Hermione was with Draco her eyes seem to light up. He really wasn't lying when he said that Luna took a liking to her.
" happy birthday, cousin, Luna." Draco told her.
" yes happy birthday Luna. How has your day been so far?" Hermione asked
" well, I'd say considering I only woke up a few minutes ago and it's going quite well."
" only a few minutes ago it's already 10." Hermione informed the blonde. clearly confused.
" it's my birthday Hermione I think I should be allowed to sleep in till 10. Don't you think cousin Draco?"
Draco nodded " I don't think 10 is very late anyway, it's still morning time after all."
Hermione rolled her eyes at the two of them clearly not amused. " well, I guess you're right. I got You are present Luna, and so did Draco. would you like to open them here?"
Lunas eyes sparkling with excitement " yes please I love presents. My father sent me one this morning. it was a beautiful green sweater with a snake on it." She giggle. clearly thinking it's funny that she owned a green sweater with a snake on it. people would probably assumed she was a Slytherin if she wore it.
Draco handed her his present, and Hermione did as well. She opened Hermione's first and ended up pulling out a beautiful silver necklace. At the end of the necklace, there was a pink crystal. rose quartz. A symbol of love.
She had Hermione thanking her for the present and putting it on. Then she open Dracos pulling out the blue butterfly hair clip with blue gems hanging off of it she Gasped.
He saw her looking at it one day and decided that he would buy it for her. She recognized it And ran to drink go to hug him. " thank you Draco. I really wanted it. Thank you Hermione it's really nice to have another friend and a really nice one at that."
