a few months prior
"hello everyone and welcome back to my stream!!" i beamed at my webcam as my viewer count began to skyrocket upon starting my stream. thousands of comments began to flood into my chat as i introduced myself, the same way i do at the start of every stream.

"ahhh thank you all for the compliments, i love you all!! anyways, today we are getting back on the valorant grind. the new act started and I need to do my placements - so let's do them together!" i began to load the game onto my monitor, minimising my facecam to the corner as i loaded the application into the full view of my viewers
whilst waiting for my match to queue, i decided to turn my attention to the chat. i laughed along with my viewers, calling out all donations and superchats so people would be more inclined to get them to be noticed by me

i diverted my attention back to my other monitor as the screen changed, indicating i had loaded into a match. i quickly selected my agent as we began to load in to the match, we were on my least favourite map - but it was ok as i was feeling confident from my viewers hyping me up
i stopped paying attention to my chat and began to hyper fixate on the match in front of me, the first few rounds going extremely well with me managing to scrape a few kills in each and our team winning. with the security of a few rounds under my belt, i turned my attention back to my chat inbetween rounds for a few seconds
"what do you guys mean there's another streamer in my game?" i asked chat as the round started, quickly turning my attention back to my gameplay. until suddenly, a bullet came through the wall - hitting me in the head and killing me
"what the fuck!! is someone sniping me?" i asked in annoyance, turning back to my chat

i stared in shock at the comments that began to flood through. apparently another streamer was in my game & stream sniping me? i had no clue who this other streamer was so i decided to search their name on twitch - whilst smiling and reassuring my fans that i was ok and that the hate comments weren't affecting me
i scoffed on camera opening his twitch page and seeing he had 500 THOUSAND followers.. that was almost double my amount and he was still sending his obsessed fans to go and hate on me. i stopped focussing on the chat and resumed my gameplay, banning "playerwookie" from my stream to stop the sniping and carrying on my stream as normal - well as normally as possible.
as my match came to an end, my team (thankfully) won, with me placing above this "playerwookie" guy on the leaderboard. i didnt want to check chat in fear of an influx of hate comments, but my mods had muted all the haters and jealous fans that decided to pour negativity onto me
"thank you all for coming to my stream - i'll be going a lot earlier than usual as I just don't feel like playing another game after what just happened! always remember guys, don't let what others think of you affect you - even if it's harmful. yerim out, peace!!" i beamed at the camera before hitting the 'end stream' button - my smile instantly dropping into a frown.
who was this guy and why did he think he should send his fans into my chat? and also, why would he stream snipe me? if he's a streamer too, he should know how annoying it is to be sniped. i sighed as i moved away from my pc setup, flopping on my bed as i checked my sns

"thank you all for tuning in to today' stream! i hope you all enjoyed my terrible attempt at cooking - also i'm doing a charity stream next week for "women in games", more information about it will be released soon.. but for now.. bye bye cuties!" i got up out my chair and flopped onto my bed after ending my 4 hour long stream. my throat felt parched from only drinking redbull whilst streaming as i made my way to the kitchen
"you look dead, are you ok?" my roommate, xiaoting, said to me. i lived with my 2 best friends, xiaoting and mashiro, both of whom were also influencers. xiaoting was a popular model, whilst mashiro was a day-in-the-life vlogger on youtube. the three of us were all pretty popular online, and we had grown up together before moving in together to pursue our careers.
"just the normal, barely slept, got a shit ton of hate in my chat and wanted to break character and swear at everyone so bad" i grinned back at her as i sat down on the sofa next to her, glass of water and a bag of crisps in hand
"hm.. fun! have you even tried to reach out to playerwookie yet about asking him to stop?" she asked me as she switched on the tv, taking a moment to relax from her busy schedules.
"multiple times. trust me, i tried - he hates me for some reason" i sighed, recalling the months of teasing and ridicule i've faced from many streamers, playerwookie in particular. it was like he just despised my existence, who knew why. he was still a bigger streamer than i was, despite our follower gap being smaller than a few months ago.
"he's just weird, isn't that whole group of them the same?" xiaoting asks, referring to the "it boys" of twitch - also known as the e-sports team zerobaseone, composed of the hottest streamers on the platform currently.
"yeah, all my interactions with them have been pretty sour.." i said, looking back on the times that i had the (un)pleasure of meeting the team. they had always been rude, all arrogant from their large followings and loved to poke jest at us 'smaller' streamers.
"but anyways, a more happy topic - did you see the new razor endorsement? they're choosing a streamer to be the face of their brand & design a new collection for them. you should totally go for it!!" xiaoting held my hand as she excitedly told me about a sponsorship that did infact pique my interest.
"wait, that actually sounds cool? i'm totally gonna try win it - what's the conditions?" i asked, now intrigued by the news of one of the biggest gaming equipment companies looking to make a streamer the face of their brand.
"i don't think there is any, just be a reputable, and obviously popular, streamer - let me read.. oh wait, it says ideally ranking in the top 10 streamers list.." xiaoting pulled out her phone as she read the post out to me, a frown forming on her face as she emphasised the "top 10" part.
"top 10 could be an issue, but i'm up for trying.. it's not like anything could go wrong" i said, still determined to at least try and be chosen for the brand deal.
"yeah, i agree - you would be a perfect fit!! i can try get you some modelling gigs to help boost publicity if you want." xiaoting offered me, she was such a sweetheart that i just loved her so much. "i would love that, ting - thank you so much!!" i squeezed her hand as a comfortable silence descended over us as we both watched tv - with the occasional noise of me sipping on my water or eating my crisps to cut the silence
as the show we were watching ended, i decided to check my discord to see if anything was going on with my streamer friends
