Blaise Beck-Day

"You ready?" She asked out of breath after climbing up the steps toward her childhood home. I snorted as she pretended to wipe the sweat off of her forehead. I pointed toward the one bag she was carrying and then pointed toward the five I was carrying.

"No baby, I think the question is— are you ready?" I rebutted, reaching out to poke my finger toward the doorbell. She quickly smacked my hand away.

"Are you crazy? There are a million children in that house. The last thing we need is to wake them up." She bitched as she gently pushed open the front door.

I furrowed my brows, "There are two babies–"

She cut me off, kicking her sandals to the side as I followed her footsteps. "You aren't counting my dad." She teased, swinging the bag in her hand. She waited for me to slide off my shoes but as she was swinging that bag, and I was looking down at my feet, my eyes caught something shiny.

I, of course, knew what it was. But every time that dainty little ring around her finger caught my stare, I couldn't help but not smile. She scoffed, pulling the hand back.

"Blaise." She said my name.

God and when she said my name, it was like every single memory of the two of us exploded in my mind. She simply overwhelmed me in every way possible. I just couldn't stare at her for too long and not feel like the luckiest person in the world.

I have now lived longer with her in my life than I had ever lived alone. When I was eight years old, she changed my life and now the rest is history. I get to spend forever with her. If someone were to ask me how I would feel bad having someone like her near me for the rest of my life– I would simply say it was like a dream.

She is a dream to me.

She's something I wish for.

She's something I hope for.

She's someone who I want to be with for the rest of my life even when I am asleep and dreaming.

I reached out and kissed her knuckle and ring finger. Her cheeks turned pink and so did the tops of her ears. "Quit it!" I kissed her hand again despite her resistance.

"Blaise," Her voice warned. I held her hand, rubbing my fingers over the ring back and forth. She couldn't not smile, just like she couldn't be mad. After all, we had only just gotten married yesterday.

"They don't know, don't make it obvious."

I smirked at her pleas, I went to respond but I was cut off by a squeal at the end of the hallway. "There you two are! I was worried your flight was delayed!" My mom paraded down the hallway and before she could hug me, she swept my wife into her arms.

"My little sagey-waygey. God, I swear you two living in another country half of the year never gets easier." She released her before heading to me, ofcourse, I towered over her– hell, I towered over my dad. I was taller than anyone in this family.

"How's the weather up there my boy?" She asked. I couldn't answer as I heard yelling from the living room that took over everyones hearing.

"Fucking run the ball! Run the fucking ball! These fucking—god fucking damnit! Throw the ball or run with it! Stupid!" Sage smiled up at me before mouthing the words 'home sweet home' to me.

"Are you two hungry? Dad made macaroons while everyone was waiting for the pizza to get here for the birthday party." I rubbed my stomach as we walked down the hallway. I could never turn down my dad's macaroons, are you kidding me?

The hallway opened up to the living room and kitchen, which gave me a live action look into what the screaming was about. Matti stood in front of the television, pacing back and forth, one hand on his hip, one hand running through his more than gray– black, hair.

"Dad!" I called to him, teasing him. He pointed his finger at me. "I told you not to call me that, Beck-Day! It's sir to you!" He yelled at me.

I heard a gasp and a squeal. "My baby is home! Oh look at you! You look like you haven't worked a day in your life!" Naomi wrapped Sage in a hug as soon as the one present hit the present table. My hands unloaded the presents from the bags and placed them on the table as well.

"It's because she doesn't work. She's my own personal gardener." I answered for Sage. Her eyes narrowed. I made it seem like she didn't want to work which was the exact opposite. You see, the entire reason we had gotten married so quickly was because she had such a drive to work no matter how many times I told her I would take care of her.

"I wish I never had to work." Naomi teased, winking at her daughter knowing the exact reaction it would bring out of Matti.

"NJ, don't even start with me right now– Oh! Oh! Oh!-- No! You motherfucker! You stupid motherfucker!"

I couldn't watch or listen to Matti's voice give out as he yelled at the Penn State football game on the television. I stepped into the kitchen to see my dad wearing an apron, I chuckled. "What are you making?" His head popped up as his eyes caught mine. He clapped, a smile on his face as we hugged.

"My boy! I thought you were never going to make it!" Our flight wasn't delayed.

Well, I mean it was.

On purpose at least.

You see these past 24 hours have been crazy. We did a green tea shot in Nice when she looked over at me and just asked for us to get married and who the hell was I to say no to that? Of course I was going to marry Sage Veda Williams as soon as she was ready and hell, she was ready. So we ran to a chapel, got married, and were ready to live happily ever after.

Nobody knew, and that was the fun part. Nobody knew and it was our little secret but we did know that we had to tell them sooner rather than later. "You stupid son of a–"

"Turn off the television, Mattison! Now!" Naomi bitched as my mom and she entered the kitchen. Naomi hung out in the doorway, hovering to make sure the television was turned off. I couldn't help but just laugh at the chaos unfolding in front of me within the last fifteen minutes that I had been inside of here.

"It's the fourth quarter—"

"Ellie, I don't want to hear it right now!" Matti pressed the off button, the living room going silent as he walked into the kitchen area where we all were. His eyes lit up, when he saw Sage. "My little baby!" He yelled.

Naomi placed her head in her hands. "You need to be quiet Matti. You can't act like this when they get here." Sage laughed, hugging her father back as he squeezed the life from her.

Natalie walked in the front door, bags in hand as well. Griffin followed behind her before Cooper walked in, car seat in hand. Naomi and my mom ran to the sink, fighting over the soap as they washed their hands in excitement.

"Here they go," Sage muttered as we watched the old people crowd around the car seat.

"Wanna sneak out before your brother and Rory get here?" I asked, kissing the hair on top of her head. She looked up at me, eyes twinkling. I took that as a yes, so I pulled her hand and opened the back door.

We stepped out into the nice fall air. It hadn't been long since Buddy passed but man, I could still hear the sound of him screaming at us in this backyard. "I love it here." She whispered as we sat on the back porch swing. She curled up right next to me.

"I can't believe how life has happened so quickly," I responded.

She nodded as we continued to swing back and forth happily. On the steps leading toward the pool and backyard were painted pumpkins, two small ones for the babies, and then the rest of them huge for the grownups.

Life did happen quickly. So quickly that I blinked and I missed it. It made me scared to blink ever again. One minute you are eight years old and are fighting for a spot underneath a tree then the next you are twenty-four, sitting on a swing with the same girl you were fighting for.

"This is our first time being home since being married." She whispered.

I couldn't help the smile that was crawling up onto my face. "We should tell them."

She shook her head. "Not now, are you crazy? My dad will lose his fucking mind!"

"No offense baby, but he lost that a long time ago." My arm wrapped around the back of her shoulder, creating a comfortable place for her to rest her head while we sat outside. Her head lolled to the side to stare at me.

I blinked slowly before speaking as she continued to stare, tracing stars, maps, and everything else on my face. "What?" I asked.

She smiled the most adorable and contagious smile. "Sometimes I think we were meant to fall apart and then come back together." One of my eyebrows raised in curiosity, urging for her to continue.

"I mean, you were halfway across the country. Thank god we live together now because it would crush me if I would've had to do long distance when we were younger." Her hand gripped my free one, tracing over the lines in my palm.

"I think it's crazy how everything worked out in the end."

I decided to speak. "Everything will always work out in the end if you wish for it hard enough. I wished for you and me every single day while I was away. I wished for you to understand me and my choices but most of all, I wished for you to be happy whether it be with me or someone else. I just wanted you to be happy."

Her rosy cheeks, pink nose, and glossy eyes she leaned in closer to my face and whispered a question. "Are you happy?"

I smiled a genuine smile. "I don't think anything in the world could ever make me happier than being with you."

"I agree—" She was cut off as everyone inside the house started to make noise again. Sage's face lit up like a Christmas tree. "They are here!" She squealed like she hadn't seen him in a while.

She bolted off of the swing and charged into the house, leaving me in the dust to grasp at the concept of life with my best friend.

It's funny.

The world teaches you to go to school, get a good job, get married, have a family, retire, and die. But the world never ever teaches you actually how to form relationships– it's up to you to form your relationships.

I will forever be lucky for the girl underneath that damn oak tree.

I walked inside and watched as Matti's face lit up as he picked up the small boy from the car seat. "Did you miss me junior?" Matti asked as he shoved his face right next to his grandsons. I ran my hands over my face a few times.

"Just because he is named after you doesn't mean we call him Junior," Slater grumbled.

"I call him Junior because he is a junior. Not everyone can have a name as special as Mattison Williams II."

"He goes by his middle name, Dad." Sage walked up to her nephew, kissing his big chubby cheeks. Matti huffed and puffed whilst everyone around him waited for him to say his grandson's name.

"Okay right, sorry. Hi Buddy."

"Yes, that's so much better–"

"Wait, is that a ring on your finger? Sage?" Stella reached over her father and gripped Sage's hand. Sage's eyes panned to mine in alarm. I offered her an encouraging smile before she finally told them the truth.

"I– we– you–" She couldn't get it out.

"We're married," I said for the two of us.

There was silence in the kitchen before commission erupted around us. Matti being angry, Stella, Naomi, and Sloane grew overcome with emotion while my dad walked toward me placing a hand on my shoulder.

I looked up at him as he looked down at me.

"What?" I asked.

He smiled with a shake of his head. "Are you ready for a crazy and bumpy ride?" He asked.

I didn't look at him when I answered, I was staring right at her. I knew that I was ready for whatever ride life would take me on as long as she was by my side.
