"Right, here we are... hopefully Connor answers the door straight away." You breathed out as you cut the engine off, glancing over at Nines who was staring at you intently. "I am sure he will, even if he doesn't when he finds out it's you outside he'll open the door." Nines pointed out being completely right about what he said, turns out he knew Connor better than you thought.
"I guess we'll find out." You said wiggling your eyebrows at him.
You could tell Nines was fighting himself not to smile, his top lip twitching every couple of seconds. That was until you gave him a deep grin, so he stopped trying to fight it and smiled at you.
The two of you exited the car and walked up the path to Hanks house, once at the door you press down on the bell hearing it resonate through the house. Tapping your foot up and down you wait to see if Connor would appear soon, you were about to press the doorbell again until you heard footsteps getting closer to the door.
Moments later the door opened to reveal Connor, he wasn't wearing his uniform anymore instead he was dressed in a hoodie, with the hood up. You didn't get the chance to look at the rest of his outfit.
"Y/N? What are you doing here?" Connor asked, looking up at his face you saw a questioning look in his eyes. "Came to check on you, not just for Hank but I was worried too." You answered sucking your bottom lip into your mouth, Connor nodded then stepped aside for you to enter. "Hope it's okay that I bought Nines with me."
"Sure." Connor mumbled as he moved towards the sofa and face planted into it, he never really acted like this which made you wonder if he was like this after you both broke up.
A bark came from the hallway as the sound of paws rushed towards the living room, you heard Nines close the front door behind himself as Sumo appeared in the living room.
"Hiya, Sumo." You said in a cute voice to which Sumo began to wag his tail making his way over to you, expecting pets. "I've missed you."
You knelt down and held onto Sumo's face while scratching by his ears all the while he tried to give you kisses, but you couldn't stay giving Sumo attention. Connor needed you. Giving Sumo one more head pat you stand back up move over to the sofa.
Connor still had his face buried in the sofa.
Nines was kind of just stood awkwardly near the front door still, but out of the corner of your eye you saw Sumo approaching Nines.
'Good boy, Sumo.' You thought before turning your attention back to Connor, he hadn't moved at all and didn't seem to want to move either.
"Connor... sit your ass up." You ordered but you were only met with silence from him, looking over to Nines you immediately knew you would be getting no help from him. His attention was fixed onto Sumo, Nines was now knelt down in front of Sumo and was now petting him lightly on the head. "For fuck sake, Connor."
Waiting for a few seconds you realised your current approach was not going to work on Connor, so you moved around now being stood beside Connor.
"Connor you have to talk to someone..." You mumbled sadly, in the hope that this would make him move.
It didn't.
"Fine... you leave me no choice." You told him before turning around and sitting directly on the middle of his back, then turned your attention to Nines who now had his eyes on you, while still petting Sumo. "I can sit here all day."
"Go ahead. It doesn't hurt." Connor said into the sofa, which made his voice muffled and hard to hear.
"Fine." You grumbled folding your arms across your chest.
Nines was still looking at you his LED flashing yellow every few seconds, his head titling to the side like a puppy. Letting out a sigh you start to shift around on top of Connor, looking down towards his head.
"Connor, please talk to me..." You pleaded reaching out to the back of the hood on his head and tugging on it.
"No." Connor replied as he moved his hand and grabbed onto yours removing it from the hood.
A sound of surprise switched your attention back to Nines, who was now sat on the floor with Sumo practically sat in his lap. But he looked happy. The smile on his lips making that obvious to you. At least someone was remotely happy.
"Your new name is Connor the pain in the ass sent by CyberLife." You remarked dragging your eyes away from Nines and back towards Connor, his head shooting up at your comment. "Why can't you just let me be depressed in peace?" Connor questioned trying to twist his head as far as he could, pulling his hood down so he could actually see you.
"It's only a day and a half..." You reminded him but he looked anything but impressed by what you said.
"I would say you don't know what it's like... but you do." Connor grumbled as you smirked at him, you understood why he was upset about it but you didn't like knowing he moping around the house like this. "I do know what it's like, mine was a whole week." You commented with an eyebrow raised at Connor which made him let out an unneeded sigh.
"I have no idea what I am supposed to do, you will all be working while I sit at home doing nothing." Connor breathed out that's when you stood from sitting on top of him, Connor sat up with his arms folded over his chest. "You have Sumo to keep you company, think of it as a mini holiday rather than a suspension." You suggested sitting down beside Connor, you could still hear Nines in the background with Sumo who was making happy dog noises.
"I messed up, I let him get to me... then I hurt him..." Connor muttered, the upset tone in his voice making this all the more heartbreaking.
"He deserved it." Nines's voice said as both you and Connor turned your heads to look over at him, he wasn't looking at either of you. He eyes were locked on Sumo as he gave the large dog belly rubs.
"Is he wearing human clothes?" Connor asked only just seeming to notice what Nines was wearing, you hummed in response before saying. "Yep he is, I got him some. Which was difficult because he's so stubborn, a bit like another Android whose the same model type." You commented as an embarrassed laugh left Connor's mouth, he knew exactly what you were talking about.
"He looks different, I thought he looked different in the DPD hoodie but this is a huge difference." Connor said twisting your head back you look at Connor who flicked his eyes towards you.
"Yeah I know." You mumbled.
"I see my statement was completely ignored." Nines's voice said making you roll your eyes at what he said. "We didn't ignore it, we just went off topic." You explained as Nines let out a noise close to a scoff. "Drop the attitude, Nines."
"He may have deserved it RK900, but that does not mean that I had the right to do it." Connor said to Nines while looking at you the whole time, it was clear that Connor had already heavily reflected on what he did. "I still stand by my statement, I will not change it." Nines said, you saw Connor raise an eyebrow.
"Did putting human clothes on give him a whole new personality?" Connor asked his voice in a hushed whisper making you shrug at him, you were genuinely starting to think the same thing, turning your body you pull your legs up on the sofa with your feet hanging off while you knelt on your knees looking over the back of the sofa at Nines. "We get it Nines." You said looking at Nines very concerned.
"Thank you for coming to check on me... both of you," pausing Connor let out a sigh, "even though I know you only came because you were with Y/N."
"Nines may not care for people, but your still one of his partners so your well-being is important to him, right Nines?" You said directing your serious tone towards Nines, who raised his head to finally look over at you and Connor. "Yes of course, exactly that." Nines replied with two short nods before going back to into his own world that had only him and Sumo in it.
Connor tugged on your arm making you sit back down on the sofa properly and look at him. "Thank you for coming to check on me, I know it's taking time out of your life." Connor thanked reaching his hand out and placing it on top of yours. "You're welcome, Connor, I know how much your job means to you." You responded placing your free hand on top of his that still laid on top of your other hand.
"I know you probably have to go, but could you just wait a couple of minutes while I do something?" Connor questioned without hesitation you nodded in response, he then dragged his hand out from in between yours and stood up disappearing further into the house.
Standing up you move over to Nines who was now looking at you while you approached him, Sumo was sat in his lap while Nines dragged his hand along his body absentmindedly, but Sumo really didn't seem to mind.
"Got a new friend there." You commented looking down at Nines, who actually had to tilt his head back slightly to look up at you. "I don't understand..." Nines mumbled his eyebrows creasing together in confusion.
"Sumo, he's your friend now." You said pointing down at Sumo before then crouching down and petting Sumo.
"But he is a dog." Nines stated.
"So? Dogs can still be your friend, they do a lot of things friends can mostly support you when you need them." You explained to Nines, which made his LED flash between yellow and red for a few seconds. "Sumo is my friend?" Nines inquired a small half smile tugging at his lips, you hadn't failed to notice that Sumo was getting his fur all over Nines and he didn't seem to care at all.
"Yes, Sumo is your friend." You told Nines who glanced down at Sumo and buried his hand into Sumo's fur 'God look at him...' you thought just watching Nines intently.
"I'm back, oh I see you are both enjoying Sumo's company." Connors voice said his footsteps fast approaching you both.
"Sumo is a good dog." Nines mumbled and you felt like your heart was going to burst from your chest at how cute he was being. "We should go now, I'll tell Hank you're feeling a little better." You told Connor standing up so you were now beside him. "Come on, Nines, we have to go."
Nines looked up at you with an almost sad look like he didn't want to leave, he then gave Sumo one last pet before lifting Sumo out of his lap. Sumo whined sadly until Connor pat the side of his leg catching Sumo's attention, making him then rush to Connor.
"See you soon, Connor." You said as he stepped towards you and pulled you into a gentle hug, pushing his lips next to your ear and whispering. "Thank you for being perfect."
Nodding you feel Connor let you go, ruffling behind Sumo's ear one last time you make your way to the door where Nines was waiting for you. Opening the door the two of you step out, Connor following behind.
"Goodbye." Connor said to you both with a small smile on his face.
"Bye!" You yelled.
Nines was being awfully silent on the ride back to the station, he was looking out of the window having a brand new villain arc. For some reason you felt like he was annoyed or upset, he still hadn't even noticed Sumo's fur on himself.
"Nines... are you okay?" You asked genuinely worried that something was wrong with him.
"I am fine." Nines responded, bluntly.
"Okay, just checking..." You mumbled reaching a hand over to turn your music on, that was until one of Nines's hands stopped you. Pulling your hand away from it. "What the hell?"
"Why does Sumo like me?" Nines questioned you, keeping your eyes on the road you sigh thinking of a way to explain. Part of you originally thought it was because Nines looks a lot like Connor but he chose Nines over Connor.
"Because you give him attention, you're nice to him and what's not to like?" You told Nines making sure you had a smile on your face, in your mind Sumo just clearly had a good judge of character. "I like Sumo I think, he's very... very soft and cuddly." Nines murmured seeming to trail off into his thoughts, you couldn't help but think how cute Nines's response was.
"He is, maybe I can ask Hank if we can take him for a walk soon, would you like that?" You questioned stealing a small glance at Nines hoping to see his reaction, but you didn't having to look straight back at the road ahead. "I believe that would be quite... enjoyable to experience together." Nines answered his voice sounded happy and almost excited.
After that your conversation stopped so you continued to drive, stealing glances at Nines every so often, just hoping that Nines wouldn't catch you looking at him.
Once back at the station you and Nines entered the building, looking over at him you began to get excited knowing that people you worked with were about to see Nines in a very human suit. Entering the desk area you could already see people beginning to stare at Nines, a happy smile growing on your face.
Nines kept his focus straight ahead not seeming to notice anyone staring at him, well that was until he looked to you and saw you staring at him.
"Is something the matter?" Nines asked his eyebrows raising themselves at you.
"Nope, you just look great at the moment." You told Nines smiling happily at him, with him returning the smile.
The two of you made it to your desk and Hank was already staring at Nines, his eyes wide.
"Hello, Lieutenant. We'd like to report that RK800 is doing quite a bit better now, Y/N had a conversation with him." Nines informed Hank who was still just staring at Nines, looking between the two of them you could see that Nines hadn't taken much notice of Hanks expression. "Yeah while Nines just played with Sumo the whole time." You shrugged which finally broke Hanks attention from Nines, a chuckle leaving him.
"I apologise would you have preferred that I helped?" Nines inquired while he started wiping down his new jacket, seeming to finally notice Sumo's fur on it. "It's fine, Nines, you and Connor don't exactly get on very well with each other." You reassured Nines sitting down into your chair.
"Thanks for checking on him, both of you, I really appreciate it." Hank thanked. "When did he get those clothes?"
"Y/N bought them for me, do you think I look weird?" Nines asked Hank as you once again started to look between them both, Hank looked a bit taken aback by Nines's question. "You always look weird... but I guess you look a little less weird without the neck brace." Hank replied while nodding his head seeming to completely agree with himself.
"I see, Y/N said that I look good." Nines told Hank who just smirked.
"Yeah well, she likes weird things... she likes Connor he's weird and she likes you and you're weird." Hank said, his voice in a joking manner you knew he was just trying to tease Nines, but looking at Nines you weren't sure if he understood that.
"And she likes you... which must mean you are also weird." Nines declared making you start to laugh hysterically at what Nines had said, Hank on the other hand looked anything but impressed by his comment.
