Five days later
It's the morning that I leave for the repatriation. Something I have been dreading for the last few days. Flying back to a war zone, to bring back the fallen. Everyone in Intelligence has seen me stressing about and they have noticed that I have been spending endless amounts of time in the locker room during shifts or just sitting alone in the breakroom. Adam and Jay have been the most concerned for me, as I'm not eating much at the moment due to my nerves and they've even noticed me falling asleep at my desk.
I'm not due to fly out till his evening, so I'm spending the day at the district to try and pass the time. Sitting on the bench in the locker room, with my locker wide open and just staring at my uniform before placing my head in my hands and slowly letting the tears fall down my cheeks. At this point of time, lots of things are running through my mind.
Why did I join the Navy?
Why did the Navy want me to this repatriation?
Does Steve know about the incident with the team?
My mind is just feeling scrambled. It's not like me to be feeling like this at all. I'm always on top form. Knowing what to do and what to say. Even how to deal with extremely difficult situations. But the situation that I'm currently being faced with, I'm not on top form. I don't know what to do. I don't know what to say. And I don't even know how to deal with this situation. It's like my entire persona, the way I work, has completely changed and I don't know what to do.
Adam's Pov
The last couple of days have been long. Especially for my wife. I'm starting to become concerned about her because ever since she came back form the Naval office, she's not been the same. I just want to be there for her but she slowly been pushing me away. I understand that but I just want to comfort her and just hold her and tell her that everything is going to be alright.
Sitting at my desk, trying to do some paper work from the last case that we completed. I came into the district early with Lilah to start the paper work and get it out the way, just in case a new case comes up. Since arriving at the district, Lilah has been in the locker room and that was just over an hour ago. I turn to look a the stairs and I see my brother in law walking up and then over to me.
"Morning Adam. You alright?" Jay asks me
"I'm fine bro. Just worried about Lilah. She's not been eating much the last few days because she has been stressing about the repatriation that she ahs to go on. She currently sat in the locker room and she's been in there for the past hour. She didn't even have her morning coffee before leaving the apartment. It's not like her. It's just like her persona has changed" I answered.
"I know what you mean. It's not like her. She's always on top of things and making sure that things are running smoothly. But the last few days, she just been in her own little world and not running like she usually is" Jay said with concern.
Lilah's Pov
After sitting in the locker room for over an hour. As I stand up from the bench, I wobble a little bit and started to feel a little but dizzy but I stabilize myself and open the door and head out to the bullpen and then I see my brother and husband talking. I lean against the door frame, as I feel another dizzy spell. I place my head on the door frame and as I shuffle, it catches the attention of the two most important men in my life.
"Hey sis you alright?" Jay asks with a bit concern.
"I'm fine, just tired. Nervous about lat.." I couldn't even finish my sentence before falling forward but Jay catching me just in time and then he helps me to my desk, so I could sit down and then Adam is at my side.
"Baby. What's wrong? You've gone awfully pale?" Adam state with quite a bit of concern. But before I could try a think of the right response to say, I say something else.
"Adam, I don't feel good" and as I finish my sentence, I fall off of my chair and it my head on the desk and at that point, everything goes black.
Jay's Pov
Seeing my sister collapse from her seat and hitting her head on her desk scared me and with Adam at her side, I immediately grabbed my radio, to call for an ambulance.
"50-21 George, I need an ambo to the 21st district, I have an officer down, and it's Lieutenant Commander Lilah Halstead" I stated
"Copy that 50-21 George. Ambo en route with an ETA of 3 minutes"
It is just scary seeing my baby sister in this state. It's something a big brother should never have to see. Adam is currently holding a tissue on the wound on her head, to try and stop her losing too much blood.
Within minutes, paramedics have arrived and Adam is explaining everything to the paramedics and they state they ae going to take her to Lakeshore but I stare at them in complete shock.
"No! She is NOT going to Lakeshore. Take her to Chicago Med" I stated to the two paramedics and they nod in agreement.
"Adam, you go with her and I'll follow in the truck. I'll call Will and Voight and give him the heads up" I told my sisters husband.
I grab my keys off my desk and run to the parking lot and jumped in and headed straight to med with lights and sirens on. I grabbed my cell and called Will and he picked up right away.
Will: Jay can I call you back in a bit. I'm rather busy at the moment
Jay: Will, Lilah is en route to Med as we speak. She collapsed at the district and hit her head on her desk. She's been on edge the last few days. Ambo 74 are bringing her in and Adam is with her.
Will: Thanks for letting me know. I'll head down to the ER now and I'll grab Ethan because I can't treat her
Jay: Thanks bro. I'll be there in a couple of minutes
I hang up the phone and then call Voight to inform him of the situation and within a couple of rings of the dialing tone, he picks up
Voight: Halstead, I was about to call you. Where are you?
Jay: I'm on the way to Med
Voight: You alright?
Jay: It's not me. It's Lilah. She collapsed at the district. She hit her head on her desk. Adam is with her in the ambo.
Voight: Hang tight. The team and I will be there soon
With that Voight hung the phone up, just as I was pulling up to Med. I practically jumped out of my truck and ran into the ER, to see Adam sitting in the waiting area with Will.
"Adam, Will" I shout and they both look up at me.
"Any news on Lilah?" I ask and then Will looks at me.
"Ethan is going to run some tests to see what's wrong, due to the fact that she's hit her head. From the pale complection that she came in with, we think it's dehydration or stress related ut we will have to wait until the results are back. With Ethan's history with the Navy, he is going to call the Vice Admiral to get her removed from the repatriation deployment because with the way she was looking when she was brought in, there was no way she was going to make that flight tonight. But as she was brought in she was slowly waking up" Will stated and I nodded and just sat down, as the team arrived.
Four hours passed and Ethan walks out into the waiting room, holding his iPad and everyone waiting stood up and looked over at Ethan.
"How's Lilah?" I asked
"Lilah's conscious and awake. The cut on her head was quite deep, so that has been stitched up but from hitting her she has got concussion and is experiencing sensitivity to light. Lilah was also dehydrated due to the amount of stress she has been under the last couple of days. I have also rang the Vice Admiral about her being on this repatriation mission and she has been removed from the mission due to her health. Lilah is going to have to stay here for a couple of days to be monitored. Lilah is asking for Jay and Adam" Ethan states.
Myself and Adam walk out if the waiting room and follow him up to Lilah's room and when we get there she is sitting up in bed, leaning her head on the pillow behind her.
Lilah's Pov
Lying in a hospital bed, squinting my eyes because the lights are too bright and it doesn't help when I've got concussion. Still squinting my eyes, I see two figures at the door and I instantly knew that it was my brother and husband.
"Hey guys" I whisper
"Hey baby, how you feeling?" Adam asks me
"I'm alright. Just got a banging headache but I'll live" I said laughing quietly
"At least you haven't lost your sense of humor sis" Jay said and that made me smile
"Ethan told me he rang the Navy and that I was going on the repatriation due to having concussion and dehydration. And that the team is in the waiting room" I stated and then sighed.
"I don't want to seem rude guys but I just want to rest and get some sleep. If you guys want to stay that fine but I'm just tired at the moment" I said and both Adam and Jay nodded.
I leaned back on my pillow and slowly closed my eyes as todays events have made me extremely exhausted and from what I'm feeling right now but I should be feeling right as reign in a few days time. I'm just glad I have the best brother and the best husband in the world because I don't know what I'll do without them.
