Jack didn't know what to think of Sapnap and (Y/n) at first.
Of course he didn't- how else would you react if you found out one of your best mates had fallen in love with the enemy? It was absolutely crazy.
Before he had told (Y/n) that he had found out something fishy was going on with her and Sapnap, he was like "I swear, if the literal ambassador of this nation is becoming friends with our top enemy, I'm going to tell Wilbur."
But then, he saw her smiles and heard her laughs.
Before interacting with Sapnap, she had been pretty different.
You didn't see her smile a lot, and laughing was even rarer. She was strict and serious with her actions, always cautious and even a bit cold.
He didn't tell her, but he had figured out she had a fear.
The fear of letting others down.
The fear of losing her status.
The fear of being replaced.
The general fear of just... not being good enough.
He supposed that was why she always had such high expectations. She had worked hard to get here, and it could all fall apart in a couple of seconds.
(Y/n) used to be strict with herself; always sticking next to Wilbur like glue and never owning up to him when he did something she didn't like.
Cold-face princess, he used to think. It was his opinion of her.
But after (Y/n) met Sapnap, there had been.. a graduate and slow change. She began smiling more, laughing and interacting with everything. Her eyes slowly started gaining more emotion and she began expressing herself more freely.
And, he was almost ashamed to admit it, he was glad she had yelled at Wilbur. It was a surprising but nice change to see her finally voice out her thoughts to the leader whomst everyone didn't dare to object.
Jack began to respect her true self.
While she had changed quite a bit, there was something she had never changed; her selflessness.
Whether it was as small as helping to set up the L'Manberg ball, or to sacrifice her life for her team, she was the definition of "I'll risk my life to save yours."
He had wondered where this change had come from, and realized it started happening when she was assigned to guard Sapnap.
First, he was like "Oh shit" and then after realizing it was a good change... well, he was still like "Oh shit."
They were enemies, and their love was strictly illegal.
But he admired them in a way. They crossed boundaries when they started liking each other. They both changed. They were persistent and would do so much in the name of love, and their determination was amazing.
Jack began talking more with (Y/n) and they became good friends. He had discovered she was kinder than she seemed, more chaotic than just "serious face" and more expressive than before meeting Sapnap.
It would just have been terribly cruel if he were to be the reason she would fall apart.
So he supported her. He knew the risks if they were all got together, but a friend was a friend, even in the most dire situations.
He never had the experience of love before; but seeing them was enough to tell him that love shouldn't be underestimated.
Even if their love had started with her punching him in the face.
But hey, all love stories had their perks.
Jack realized, he was the only one who could support her. He was the only one who knew.
Of course, there were times he had debated on telling Wilbur, but... he was just worried for her safety.
In love or not, this was Sapnap they were talking about here. The killer, the right hand man to Dream, the boy who was rumored to have an obsession with fire, the ruthless and stone hearted boy.
He couldn't help but wonder sometimes, did he really change?
What if it were all a façade?
What if (Y/n) got hurt, or even worse, killed, and he knew why but didn't do anything because he thought it was okay?
What if (Y/n) was being tricked to leak information?
Jack was the only one who knew, but he knew so little.
He sighed and slumped down in his bed. In the end, she was happy. And if Sapnap were to harm her in any way, he would make sure that he was the one who took responsibility since he was the only one who could've stopped them from progressing further.
Jack trusted (Y/n). He hoped that trust wouldn't be broken.
With the worry that ached in his heart, he sat up again and took out a communication bracelet he had bought from Sam a few months ago.
Stepping out his room, he went to (Y/n) and knocked on her room. THe door creaked out and out stepped the said girl.
"Oh, hey Jack. What's up?"
Kind as always.
"(Y/n)... I'm worried about... you know."
Her face had visibly fell for a split second, that Jack would've missed it if he blinked. "Come inside my room. We can talk more privately in there," she spoke turning around and walking back in.
Jack did so and looked around. Her room was tidy and neatly done. Her bow was hanging on her weapon rack, shining purple and standing out the most. On her desk laid a few piles of papers and documents.
He sat down respectfully on a chair while she plopped down on her bed.
"(Y/n), I'm worried something's going to happen between you and Sapnap."
She opened her mouth, but he cut her off.
"Before you start, yes, I do trust you. I trust you a lot, (Y/n), you're the sister to our team. But... I just want to be more careful. You know I'm the only one who knows about you guys, and if something were to happen... who do you think would take the blame the most?" he said quietly, fiddling with the bracelet in his hands.
She closed her mouth, understanding filling the emotion in her eyes.
"I'm sorry, Jack. I never thought that far, but I assure you, everything's fine. If something.. if something does go wrong, never blame yourself. I would be the one to blame since I was the naïve one. Is.. is there anything else?"
"Yeah. Take this."
He outstretched his arm and she took it gracefully, her mouth making a little "o" shape upon seeing it.
"It's a hidden emergency communication device. You see that charm in the center? The one shaped like a butterfly?"
"Mhm."
"If you press on that 2 times and hold down on the 3rd, it'll send a direct contact for help to me," Jack explained, seeing her face soothe down. "You can even speak into it- like your earpiece, but this is just for you and Sapnap's situation."
"Wait.. how would you receive my signal?"
"With this." He fumbled around a little with his belt and showed her a round device with a light on it. "Try what I told you."
She nodded and pressed the charm 2 times then held down on the 3rd. Instantly, Jack's device began beeping and the light flashed a bright red.
(Y/n) leaned her face into it. "Testing testing, 1 2 3!" she spoke, looking excited like a child. Her voice popped out of his round device at the same time, confirming that it had worked.
"Jack, this- this is amazing!" she gasped, smiling. He couldn't help but smile back, despite the seriousness of this. She had that kind of effect.
"Thank you a lot, Jack."
"No worries. Just worried about my sister."
A happy and content smile appeared on her face. She seemed to like being called "sister". Was it because of her past family troubles?
He got up and ruffled her hair.
"Just stay out of trouble with him, okay?"
"Will do. I'm grateful for everything you've done for me, Jack. I really am."
Jack left with a smile on his face. She had always protected their team; it was about time he had paid her back, even if it was just by a little amount.
