He rolled his eyes, groaning "not" under his breath. I tried my best to suppress a laugh.
"What was that?" Bruce asked, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.
"Nothing," Arturo sighed.
"I hope you enjoyed the ball?" Bruce smiled.
"Yes, the food was lovely," Arturo grinned, and then turned to face me, darting his eyes away from Bruce. "I must say, your gown is stunning, Mrs Martinez."
I scratched my arm nervously, caught off-guard by this compliment. Not knowing how to take this, or how to react.
"Well..." Bruce began, snapping me out of my thoughts. "Only the best for my wife."
Oh, so NOW he wants to pull out the wife card! I thought to myself condescendingly, scowling, irritated. Bruce had been treating me like shit for God knows how long, and now Arturo was speaking like this, he wanted to act like all he did was care about me, when that was far from the truth.
