Hey guys, thank you for your votes and comments.

But na yaar aap sab ne yeh dhyan that what he called her but kisi ne yeh dhyan diya Karan ne kaha woh serial KILLERS ki field me expertise h..

yeh part interesting bhi lag sakta hai aur boring bhi but mostly parts iss story me aise hi hone h so yeah..

Anyways let's continue from the last part,

The police car is still traveling on the national highway.

Monami is lost for words.  She cannot believe this.

The policeman that is driving the car asks Karan: “Mr. Shergill, aap ka matlab hain..woh bachhe mat chuke hain.."

Karan says slowly: "I am afraid so."

The scenery outside the window changes rapidly. Monami asks: "Maana ki yeh saare crimes ek hi person kar raha h par woh trafficker kyon nahi ho sakta.. tum itne sure kyon ho ki woh serial killer ho hoga?"

Karan’s pale handsome face has no expression.  Looking outside the window, his eyes seem to be staring into a different world.

Karan:  "kyonkii main unhe samjhta hoon."

******

Monami called Sid.

Even though she has her doubts, she calls Sid to tell him what Karan just told her.

Sid stood in the office with his speakerphone function on.  The whole police station was in uproars after hearing Karan’s words: "kyon? Mtlb woh iss conclusion pr kaise aaye?"

Monami: “Wait." She put down the phone and looked at Karan: "Unhe tumhare iss conclusion k peeche k reasons jaane hai.."

Karan leaned his body back and closed his eyes: “Main iski briefing baad me dunga abhi unhe bolo ki bodies ko dhoondhe.."

“Bodies?”  The police can’t believe what they heard.  Neither are they familiar with the concept of briefing.  They still have their doubts about whether they should change their direction of investigation.  “Monami, this is too big a decision to make without understanding the facts fully.  Chief is with me.  He asks if Mr. Shergill can explain his findings to us first?”

Monami pondered. She looked at Karan again: “tum unhe phone par brief kr sakte ho kya?"

Karan opened his eyes: "Jab last time maine briefing kari thi.. tab main Maryland University k central hall me tha.. aur tum chahti ho Miss Mahajan ki main.."  He glanced outside the window: "......  Abhi National Highway ke Tolling booth k saamne briefing doon.. really?"

Monami wanted to laugh: “So, kyon.. agar aap yahan Tolling booth ke yahan par  briefing krenge toh kya aap less convincing sound krenge?"

Karan pulled out his sleep mask from his coat pocket and turned his head away from Monami.  His response is clear.  Stop bothering me.

Monami looked at the time.  It’s only another hour till they will arrive the police station.  She can’t possibly tell them directly that he is reluctant to do it over the phone.  So she said: “ Mr. Shergill abhi briefing ka content prepare kar rahe hain.. and then, we also need to return to the villa to collect some information that we will use at the briefing. waise toh hum almost town pahunch gaye hain.. toh jitna jaldi ho payega hum police station aa jaengeto present to you all our findings.”

Monami put down the phone and gave a sigh.  Karan removed his googles and said in a deep voice: “Liar, pants on fire!”

Monami : “Just shut up!”

 *****

By the time they arrived the police station, it’s almost evening.

Sid and a few other officers were  waiting outside the station.  Monami’s eyes were drawn to the 3rd floor, where the conference room was located.  That is where the briefing will be held.  The last time Monami was there, she was six years old.

Memories starts to trickle like water drops into her mind.

A voice besides her: “Lips pressed together, the upper eyelid drooping ...... Why did I just see a typical expression of pain, hiding within your calm appearance?"

Monami did not expect Karan to be so observant.  Like he said, she thought she hid her emotions well.

Staring into her beautiful eyes, he continued: “ That ‘hole’ in your heart… is something to do with your father.”

Not wanting to dwell on the subject any longer, Monami answered: “ Aapko jaroor koi galatfehmi ho rahi h Mr. Shergill.. kyonki mere pain ka source abhi aap hain as aap squad ko brief jo karne wale h.."

That took Karan by surprise: “I beg your pardon?”

Monami stepped back: “As your assistant, yeh meri duty bnati hain aapko btane ki bhale hi aap investigation and criminal profiling me ache hain par aapko koi haq nahi h ki aap unka mazaak udaye... They are a very diligent and responsible team of police.  Also, they might not appreciate your dry humour.  So, jab woh aapse sawaal puche toh kya aap unhe ache se aur patiently answer kar sakte hain bina sarcasm ke?"

“How did you come up with this strange conclusion?” Karan looked at her arrogantly, “Agar main kabhi sarcastic hota hoon toh isliye hamesha kyonki IQ levels me gaon hain. Aur policeman aur mera work dono ka nature different hain toh main unka mazaak bhala kyon udaunga.. isliye because they have little understanding of criminal psychology?“

Feeling a little offended, he walked on.

 ******

In the conference room.

All the policeman are sitting around the big table that takes up most of the room.  Chief is there too.  After a quick introduction, Sid invited Karan to address the team.

Monami was sitting at the back.

Karan stood up. He quickly swept a gaze over everyone there. He was not smiling. There wasn't much expression on his face. He started to speak. This was the confident, articulate and professional Karan Shergill. Monami had met the arrogant and sarcastic Karan Shergill;  the ‘I don't give a sh** about you’ Karan Shergill; the warm and cuddly Karan Shergill.  But this was a different side of him that she has not seen before.

"Hum ek local ko dhoond rahe h.. jiski umr 25 se 30 saal ki hain.. Male h.. height medium h... Figure slim h... dikhne me average looking... Aur haan aisa person jo jyadatar cyber cafes, movies theatres aata- jaata ho.. yeh bhi ho sakta h ki woh inme se hi kisi ek place me work karta ho."

Iss person ko roads ki achi jankaari hain.. har kidnapping se phle yeh  puri detailed planning krta hain.. aur victims bhi bahut carefully choose krta hain.. And yes all of them are either young workers from out of town, dropouts (of schools), or immature boys from the rural areas. Jinke pass bahut km little experience h aur na hi woh physically itne strong hain isliye they can be easily seduced or abducted.

Woh apne victims ko main city me hi approach krta hain.. Infact hum keh sakte uski socialising and interpersonal skills itni achhi h ki woh ladke isse relate kr paate hain aur uss par aasani se trust kar lete hain.. and jab usse lagta hain ki uske target ko uss par vishwaas ho gaya then he will lure them to a specific location, to be killed.

Now vehicle, agar hain bhi toh yeh person car use nahi krta kyonki car hongi longon k dhyan me rhega... konsa model h konsa colour n all.. waise iske pass car hain bhi nahi."

Akela rehta hain.. ya toh rent par ya phr iske maa- baap jo ghr chhod kar gaye h iske liye usme.. Kyonki he won’t be able to afford a house himself. He lives in a secluded area, not too far from the farmers market. Infact uska ghar hi  woh place h Jahan pr usne apne ias killing fantasy I mean unn ladko ko maara hoga.."

This is the preliminary profile. Jab aap woh bodies find out kr le.. toh main aur detailed me bta paunga."

( And main bhi thoda aur detail me likh paungi..)

The whole room is quiet.

After a long pause, Karan says: "Any questions?”

The policemen look at each other.  Sid asked the first question: "aapko yeh kyon lagta hain ki woh person 25 se 30 saal k beech me hi hoga?"

See.. He can’t be too young. agar jyada chhota hua toh financially independent nahi hoga.. Nor will he be living alone, or have the ability to lure the victims and physically kill them. jyada age me bada bhi nahi ho sakta. Do log alag alag age group k sath me walk kare.. woh bhi chhoti place Jahan pr almost uss bachhe ko jante ho ...it is more conspicuous.  Also, he is a psychopath.    Psychopaths generally starts budding during adolescence.  To reach the state of perversion he is in now will require a gestation period of more than a decade.” Answers Karan.

Sid nodded.  He continued with his second question: “Aisa kyon lagta h ki woh farmers market k aas pass rehta hoga. Jabki sirf inn sabhi bachho ke ek hi ki missing location hain.."

"Woh average logon se jyada bold jaroor hain.. par jyada intelligent nahi hain.. uske victims ki choice se iss baat se andaaza lagaya jaa sakta hain.. saare vulnerable hain.. aur jo ek hi monotonous way work karta h iss baat se bhi pta chlta h.. uske intelligence ka level.. Aur jaisa maine kaha woh psychopath hain aur psychopath humesha apna first crime jab commit krte h tab, they never dare to venture too far from their place of murder.  Humara criminal itna sure nahi ho sakta ki agar usne apne target ko jyada dur jaane ko bola toh woh uske sath jayenge kya. Isliye jitna ho usse yeh travel distance chhoti rkhni padegi."

Everyone nods.  It’s hard to believe, but all the pieces seem to fit well together. After his briefing, everything seems to be so simple and logical.

More questions followed. Karan patiently answered them. He was often very brief in his explanation.  Nevertheless, it’s always very clear and to the point.

"Professor, aapne aisa kyon kaha ki aap hume bodies dekhne k baad puri complete profile de paoge?" Sid was asking one last question.

Karan flashes a haughty smile. "Kyonki uske dil k desires unn bodies par likhe honge.. You know artist kaisa hain uski art se pata chlta hain."

****

When Monami and Karan returned to the villa, it was past nine o’clock.

Once they went inside the house, Karan hurried upstairs. Monami asked him: " Ab hum kya kare?"

Karan:  "Shower."

So Monami waited downstairs.

Today was the first time Monami saw him in his professional capacity.  Her impression of him had greatly improved. In his work, he was more than just a respectable scholar. He’s a good detective. Very observant. Quick on his feet, and knowledgable in what he does. Though he is still cold and unapproachable, there’s something about him that makes people feel that he can be trusted. That they can depend on him.

It was getting very late. But Monami understood that criminal cases are time sensitive. She expected to work 24/7 if need be.

After a while, Karan walked downstairs in his bathrobe.  His hair was still damp from the shower. He sat down on the sofa and picked up the book and started reading.

Monami asked: “Are we working tonight?"

Karan did not look up: "No."

Hum police ko bodies aur criminal find karne me assist nahi karne wale hain?"

He glanced briefly at her: "Agar yeh bhi main hi karunga toh police kya karegi.. unhe dhoondne ki responsibility police ki hain.. meri responsibility crime aur analysing aur profiling karna hai.."

The police are excavating the area where bodies might be dumped.  There is nothing they can do to help at this time. So she stood up: " Toh phir main ghar jau aur kl wapas report karti hoon.

Karan turned over a page, and spit out a word: ‘Nahi.”

Monami waits for a further explanation. Slowly, he says:. “Your time belongs to me now.”

If these words are from the mouth of another male, it might seems ambiguous.  But when it’s from Karan, it is literally what it means.  No more. No less.

But there’s nothing to do at the moment.

Monami: "...... I’ll head home first.  You can call me if you need me."

Karan:   " Nahi, agar aadhi raat ko hume bodies ko examine karne jaana pada toh.. tum kya chahti main tumhe tumhare ghar se pick up karne me uss waqt time waste kru?"

Every second counts. The faster they are able to catch the criminal, the less likely there will be another victim.

Monami asked: "Then Where should I sleep?"

   Karan “Faizi’s room."

*****

Monami lied on the wide bed in Faizi’s room.  It was around 11pm.  Karan was still awake. He seemed to be busy working in that first room.  She can hear his footsteps, sounds of books being taken from the shelve, sounds of turning pages, sounds of words being scribbled on the white board…

******

Monami was awakened by the ring tone of her phone.

"Monu, hume bodies mil gayi hain" In the background, she can hear the whistling sound of the wind, voices of other police working, “A lot of bodies.” said Sid.

Monami immediately got out of the room.

Down the dark hallway, she knocked on Karan’s door.

No response.

She took out her phone and called him. It rang for a long time, but there was no answer

- Is he fast asleep or is he somewhere else?

Monami ran downstairs to retrieve his room key from the kitchen cupboard.

She slowly opened the door. Warm air rushes over her face - his room was warm and toasty.

She found the switch on the wall and turned the lights on.  In the middle of the king size bed, a man was sleeping soundly.

Karan was still wearing his bathrobe over his PJs.  He has an interesting sleeping posture.  Facing upwards, his body is straight like a tree trunk.  Hands on either side of his body.

Monami pushed his arm gently: "Karan?"

No movement at all.

This time, she tapped his face: "Wake up!"

He responded, his eye brow raised slightly.

Lagta hain jaagne wala hain.  Monami thought to herself.

With his eyes still closed, he raised his hand to grab hers,  He then put it to his lips and gently kissed it.

Monami's whole body stiffened.  She was about to pull her hands out from his when she heard his subconscious murmurs: “Darling…  go to sleep….”

Darling?

- Is he dreaming of his girlfriend?"

Remembering why she is there, she pulled her hand back and shakes his body again.

Karan’s eyelashes tremble.  Finally, he slowly opened his eyes.

Tum mere room me kya kar rahi ho?"

Her hand was still warm from his kiss. She quickly said: “Woh unhe bodies mil gayi hain."

******

Monami went back to her room to get changed.  When she returned to the hallway, Karan was ready to go, dressed in his suit and tie.  Before he started to walk, he looked to the ground: “Darling, stop blocking the hall.”

Monami followed his gaze to the ground. There was a tortoise in front of him.

That tortoise seems to understand what Karan said, and slowly crawled to the side.
