TW: obvious filler chapter, mentions of past abusive relationship
Logan sat smiling on his bed as he read a book. Things were finally calm for once.
The incident with Virgil's birth(death)day was resolved the next day, celebrating it on the early afternoon before Logan had to go to work, but only after the adults had a little talk with Virgil over what had happened for them to celebrate so late.
The past three weeks had been... something. For Christmas, Logan's family- no, his parents- asked him to come by and visit. He refused. Even if his parents meant well with this invitation (or so he hoped), he couldn't stand being around all the other members of his extended family, not after the past celebrations. As far as Logan was concerned, they didn't exist anymore. Besides, Logan wasn't even religious, so why even celebrate this stupid holiday? There simply was no point. The vampire preferred spending it all alone, as he had for the past few years. He spent Christmas day alone in his small apartment, putting on TV and staring into the walls, drowning in his self-pity and wondering what his family would be doing without him, and how things would've been if they had been different. If he had been different. He knew it wasn't worth it, but that didn't stop the vampire to allow himself some time to let himself feel those things
Not much happened for New Years either. Virgil invited him to come party, but Logan refused the offer. He didn't enjoy the crazy parties some people celebrated (he had a suspicion that Virgil's plan included getting drunk). Apart from Virgil, the people from work also offered him to come to this other party, something which Logan also declined. Roman said that prince would only go if Logan went, and, honestly, Logan would only go if Roman went. As Logan knew that he would get bored and possibly overwhelmed, and that the party would probably have a similar effect on Roman, he decided to stay home instead. He didn't see much point on celebrating this anyways. Yes, the earth finished the orbit around the sun, that was interesting from a space-nerd perspective, but most people ruined this by making stupid resolutions. First of all, most of them forgot or gave up less than a month later, two max. And second of all, if you wanted to that, why not start at literally any other point of the year? It didn't make much sense.
Another thing that occurred during this period of time was that Logan started to get invited to the movie nights with the vampires, but apart from that, everything stayed relatively the same.
It was strange. It was strange that things seemed so... normal, in regards to the other aspects of his live. Because. Nothing. Had. Change. No one seemed to notice anything. Not... not even Roman. The person who Logan felt closest to, prince didn't seem to be questioning anything. It had been two months, and it was as if Logan had never died. Ok, he hadn't been actually dead for long... Still. While the logical part of him was glad for his success on hiding this, meaning that he wasn't in danger- The more emotional part of him questioned if such thing was actually good. If Roman really cared for him. Because if ey did, crown would've said something, noticed something, acted different... wouldn't cloud?
Logan shook his head and forced himself to keep reading. He had lost concentration and forgotten where he was going. At least there was peace in the house.
Of course, this peace didn't last long. His phone, which was next to him, started buzzing.
"What now?" He asked, answering the call
"Bonjour Logan," Janus replied, "You see-"
"Is he there?" Virgil's voice asked. His voice wasn't as clear as Janus's, and there was a bunch of background noise coming from somewhere, music and people talking. What on earth...
"Logan here," He replied, "What's going on?"
"It's a very interesting story, a hilarious one in fact-" Janus started
"Shut up, snake," Virgil hissed. Janus hissed back
"Virgil? What's going on? Why did you two call me? Some context, please?"
"Dah, ok. So I was hanging out with Remy-"
"You mean sucking his face off?" Janus teased
"Shut the fuck up! This is serious Jan!"
"I know it is! I'm just helping Logan with the context"
"Guys, I'm still lost," Logan called
"Basically, Virgil has a boyfriend now and he's freaking out about it," Janus explained.
"It's more complicated than that!" The other vampire whined
"Then fucking explain it!" Janus insisted
"Alright! Gods-" Logan could practically feel Virgil rolling his eyes, "Alright- so I was out and I bumped to Remy -again- and we started making out, like one does! And the bitch dares to ask "hey, we've made out and fucked more than one, how would you like making this official? Wanna go out with me on a date?". Like- What the fuck!?!?!"
"I... and what did you say?" Logan asked
"The dumbass said yes," Janus answered, "Virgil, darling, you need to stop with the paranoia-"
"Never!" Virgil hissed
"If you don't want to go, you can always say you changed your mind?" Logan suggested
"No, no, the thing- the thing is that I really like him, but I'm kinda scared it'll end like the others..."
"Meaning?" Logan asked
"Virgil's first boyfriend was abusive, the second was a dick too, the third cheated and blamed him, the fourth-"
"Janus Archambeau, if you don't shut your fucking mouth up, I will personally scrap your good eye off with a butterknife," Virgil threatened.
"Ohhh, using my full name. I'm so scared."
"GUYS!" Logan exclaimed, shutting the other two up, "What do I have to do with all this? I was trying to read a book here!"
"Oh, yeah. You see, dreamboat, I haven't actually dated anyone in 30 years, and we thought maybe you could give me a hand with-"
Logan couldn't believe it. He started to chuckle because of how stupid that sound, but soon that evolved into loud, strident, genuine laughter. He was unable to make himself stop, during this time the other two rested in silence. It was the first time Logan laughed like this in a long time; he couldn't remember the last time he had. Finally, the laughing attack died off; when it did, Virgil spoke again
"You're asking me for relationship advice?" Logan asked
"Yeah? You-"
"Oh god, you're so helpless.... Virgil, I'm literally the worst person to ask for help on this. Without counting the date Janus set up, I haven't gone out in a date for how long... four? Five years? And that one didn't even end well."
"Damn, you're terrible," Virgil commented
"No shit," Janus agreed, "There's more than one reason the setup was date-scheme, ya know? You two are simple fucking useless, so I tried to help you both out."
"Well, you made a terrible job," Logan told him, "Anyways- What's the plan anyways? Do you even want to do this?"
"Yes! Yes, I do. Like- I actually really like Remy, but- I'm scared? Concerned?"
"You. Are. Paranoid," Janus repeated
"And you're a bitch," Virgil contra-argued, "Anyways- I was planning on asking you two for help, just in case. Like- for you guys come by and give me a hand if needed"
"So... a double date?" Logan asked
"No, like- you two follow the date around to watch out for ant red flags I may skip and make sure Remy isn't a serial killer. Sorta like- cyber stalking. But in real life."
"So... just, normal stalking?"
"HOLY SHIT YOU'RE RIGHT!" Virgil exclaimed
"I'm genuinely surprised how you managed to survive for the past 100 years," Logan muttered.
"Me too," Janus agreed, "But he's smart"
"Ya know I'm still here, right?"
"Anyways-" Janus continued, ignoring Virgil's last comment, "You want us two to stalk your date...?"
"Yes. To make sure that I'm not making a mistake and to help if things go south"
"You're so fucking hopeless," Janus sighed
"I second that," Logan nodded
"Fuck you both. Are you going to help me, yes or no?"
"Oh, of course we are," Janus replied, "I'm not missing out on this for anything."
"Logan?"
Logan sighed, "It'll depend on the date of the date. Because I'm busy on-"
"It'll be on Monday night."
"Alright then. Why not"
"Thank you two. Seriously, thank you," Virgil said, "Now I gotta go, see y'all later"
Virgil didn't even wait for the other two to bid farewell; he simply hanged up on them, leaving Janus and Logan alone
"It looks like we're doing this now," Logan sighed
"Indeed it does. You're just going for potential blackmail material, aren't you?"
"Oh, of course"
"Same. I'll let you read your book in peace now."
"Thank you"
"Your welcome. See you on Monday!"
"Bye-"
Janus left the call as well. Logan turned his phone off and set it in the beside table, taking a deep breath. If this is how things were going to be, so be it. It would be nice to have some blackmail material for Virgil anyways, or at least use this as a way of getting Virgil to owe him something. Who knows, maybe he'd get something good out of this.
