3rd person's POV:

(Y/n) shifted her weight to her other leg. Her whole body was starting to feel sore, not only from the exhausting day of work but also from the amount of time she had been waiting outside. At least it hadn't been that cold lately. Even if the breeze made her whole body shiver, everyone could start feeling the change of seasons. 'Goodbye to the blue and dark winter, and welcome to the vibrant and blooming spring!...' she thought with a tiny note of sarcasm, but despite her words, (Y/n) was actually feeling, for the first time, in tune with the weather. Slowly changing, developing, growing...

She breathed in, and huffed again, leaning back on the wall as she looked up at the stars. It was so late in the night, that there were barely any lights in Konoha. Not even from the bars like the one she worked in. After all, they had closed a couple of hours ago. She huffed again, pouting while she looked towards the end of the street, wondering where Kakashi must have been.

"Are you lost?" a female's voice made her jump and snap her head right to the side.

(Y/n) stared at the woman. She had upturned hooded eyes that looked at her with a cryptic half-smile. Her hair was grey, although as she walked out of the shadows it caught a purple shade. She had it tied up in a bun with some loose strands and her bangs were into one big braid that went to the side, except for a few other loose flocks. She had a strange face, not in an ugly way but in a contradictory way. She had some wrinkles here and there, that paired up with her hair made (Y/n) think she was rather old, but the way she moved and stood made her think she was rather young. She had scheming coral eyes with a scar across her wide nose, but had a kind smile with a beauty mark right in the middle of her lips, on top of her upper one. But as uncommon as her face was, her clothes didn't fall behind. She wore a dull mahogany kimono with pale roses and a cream-colored sash, and to be honest that must have been around the fourth time (Y/n) had seen someone with a kimono in Konoha on a regular day for all of her life. However, further from her looks it was where she came from that caught her attention. (Y/n) blinked a few times, looking at the dead-end from where the woman had appeared, and then she looked up to the rooftops of the buildings, thinking that she would have heard someone landing.

"I'm Kurva" the woman walked closer to (Y/n), her eyes softening while her smile remained. She reached out her hand to (Y/n) in a handshake, and she couldn't help but look at it and then at the woman. Something told her that if Kakashi was here he would be wary of someone approaching him, especially in this situation. After all, she was near an alley and completely alone late in the night.

"What do you need?" (Y/n) asked. Kurva must have sensed (Y/n)'s suspicion upon her as she giggled, covering her mouth with her slender and fair hand.

"You," she stopped smiling but continued to have that soft smile and half-lidded eyes. (Y/n) tensed slightly, now being even more paranoid and ready to flee in case she needed to "This won't help my case but, I've been watching you" her smile widened after (Y/n)'s reaction.

Again, she knew that if Kakashi was here this would have been the moment to run away, but her body didn't quite move. It was strange how her words and eyes were unsettling, yet her smile and demeanor were all the contrary. Kurva didn't make any move that made her think she was in any danger, and thus her body didn't have that instinct to run away.

"I mean no harm, (Y/n). I'm here to propose that you work for me" she talked again, she was now closer and (Y/n) could smell an elegant rose perfume coming from her. It was a weird proposition, so her wariness only increased, but Kurva's words made her relax more as well.

"Why? And what's the work?" (Y/n) asked. Kurva's smile seemed to soften at her question, but she could still clearly see that (Y/n) was far from trusting her.

"You work two jobs, can I ask how much you make?" Kurva asked the (h/c)-haired girl, but she stayed silent, not sure whether she should be telling what she earn to random people. But Kurva chuckled when she didn't answer "Well, you're not full-time, and you're underage so I'm guessing it's between 400 and 600... By your face, I'd say I'm right" her smile now changed to a proud sly smirk "The job I'm offering would give you 4,000 a month if you proved profitable. In any case, the basic earnings are 1,000" (Y/n)'s eyes widened at the numbers, and she couldn't even think of a job that could give her that much.

"What job is it?" the curiosity got the best of her as any trace of suspicion and alert completely faded away.

Instead of answering Kurva snapped her head to the side, where the rest of the streets were. Her smile dropped slightly before she turned to (Y/n) again and spoke: "I'm afraid we don't have much more time, honey" she said, now with her previous smile back on her face.

"What? Why?" (Y/n) asked confused by this whole situation and her subtle and ephemeral change of mood.

"Here's my card. Give it a thought" she said before she pointed with her chin towards the direction she had looked before.

(Y/n) followed her gesture and saw Kakashi walking toward them with an expression more serious than his usual. She looked back at the woman, even more confused, but she had completely disappeared. She took a few steps into the alley, looking around and at the rooftops, but there was no trace of her, not even from her perfume.

"Who was that?" Kakashi said as soon as he arrived.

"I don't know, she said her name was Kurva" she explained, looking at the card with a frown. Getting more and more puzzled as the seconds passed "She wanted me to work with her"

"Work as what" he asked, sounding as curious and suspicious as she was earlier.

"She didn't say," (Y/n) said, looking at him and letting this weird exchange go "she only gave me this" she added, giving him the card after she saw he was still doubtful.

He took it and inspected it, but as he saw the card had nothing but her name he looked at her with an arched brow. She shrugged her shoulders with an amused smile. In the end, he returned the card.

"Why were you here?" he asked as soon as they started walking out of the place.

"Because I was waiting for you?" (Y/n) asked, thinking his question absurd. She thought it was obvious after he always walked her home. Even if they had never talked about it or made an agreement about him doing it, it just happened every day as long as he was in Konoha.

"I'm two hours late. How did you know I was going to come?" he asked, looking at her directly. Something he didn't use to do as he would prefer to give her a side glance. She shrugged.

"I hoped you would"

"What if I hadn't?" he asked with a frown that was almost covered by his silver bangs.

"I guess I would have kept waiting" she shrugged with a small giggle, not understanding why he was asking so many questions. It wasn't common for him, but she didn't mind.

"How's your arm?" he asked once he was looking back at the front and settled with looking at her from the corner of his eyes again. She huffed internally, sad that she couldn't stare at his heterochromatic eyes and interesting scar directly again.

"It hurts less," she stopped looking at him as well and instead looked at her arm, inspecting the cast. A smile was painted on her face when she remembered something "Today I heard Retha talking," she started, making his eyes set on her again, but of course, only sideways "She said it was weird because the man who did this to my wrist didn't come today, but he normally comes every day. Once after lunch and all night until we close. What do you think happened?" she asked curiously, turning her attention to him. He averted his eyes from her to the front.

"He probably got arrested," Kakashi said uninterestedly "or he might have been caught in some trouble and is now in the hospital. Who cares"

"Mh.... You're right..." (Y/n) said thoughtfully, staring at the stars. She didn't actually care about the guy "But I must admit, I was more relaxed today knowing he was not there..." she admitted lower due to feeling slightly embarrassed. She stayed looking at the floor with a smile as they walked in silence, taking in the quietness of the night "Can I ask you something?" He didn't say anything but looked at her in a way that said 'go on'. (Y/n) bit her lip, unsure of how to say it and maybe even regretting saying anything. But she'd lie if she said she hadn't been thinking about it for a while.

"I've been lately seeing you with my sister," she started, remembering all the times she caught her trailing behind Kakashi, or the times she heard her calling his name "Are you two doing missions together?" she asked, trying to sound the less weird possible and instead just genuinely curious. She didn't want him to think she was a psycho or something "I'm not really sure how all the ninja stuff works, and it's fine if you don't want to answer" she added after he stayed in silence for a while.

"She's been assigned to my team in the Anbu," he quickly said with his monotonous voice but with his eyes staring right at her "The Hokage wants to see if she's made for the Anbu" he explained some more.

But (Y/n) couldn't help but slightly pout, knowing that Alys would probably manage to get in, and thus she would get more praise from their father and everyone, and then (Y/n) would be even more of a disappointment.

"I guess she will get there" she sighed.

"She won't," Kakashi was quick to answer. He was so decisive her head snapped at him.

"What? Why?" (Y/n) curiously and surprisedly asked. He sighed as if he didn't want to talk or as if it was a hard effort to explain, but he willingly did it anyway.

"I'm supposed to decide if she's qualified for the Anbu or not," he said, eyes focused on the horizon. Something sparked in her eyes with his words "and I'm deciding she's not"

That was it. That was all it took for a wide and very rare smile to take over her face.

"Oh my God, I'm such a horrible person" she said, covering her mouth with her hand in order to hide her smile.

"Why?" it was him this time who sounded surprised.

"She's my sister, I shouldn't be happy that she doesn't progress in her career. But I... can't help it. I'm horrible" she explained, still covering her grin with her hand while she looked at the floor imagining how exasperated her sister would feel when she for once didn't get what she wanted.

"You're actually not," he said, making her lose focus from the floor "I mean," he stuttered nervously, although she didn't notice "I don't like her either. But don't tell anybody" he said, looking at her from the corner of his eyes again.

Her eyes widened like the ones from a kid, just like her smile. She nodded excitedly as a promise to keep quiet.

"Why don't you like her? They say she's a great shinobi"

"She might be. But she's too full of herself. She's egotistical, and that normally leads to the rest of the team dying. She even asked for my advice" he added, and (Y/n) looked at him with admiration "But no matter what I tell her, she will never be able to solve that. That's why she's not suited for the Anbu. Because she can only think of herself... Besides... she's quite annoying" he added, the last part trying to whisper slightly. She giggled happily at the way he put his words.

"This feels so weird," (Y/n) exhaled while she looked at the sky, now finding it more beautiful than ever "I've never had someone to complain about my sister" she admitted. Kakashi looked away, so much in fact that (Y/n) couldn't even have seen his expression even if she tried to. He cleared his throat as he hesitated whether to say this or not.

"If it makes you feel better..." he stuttered, feeling his body burn and regret opening his mouth "you can... tell me about it" he said flushing under his mask.

It just felt so weird to say these things... but he had the need of saying them. In her, he saw a way to make up for Rin, to amend his mistakes. Of course, that wasn't the only reason why he was kind of drawn to her. She was also warm and special in her own way, and the way he felt around Rin—or Obito for that matter—was in no way similar to the way he felt around her. He noted he had never felt like this with someone else, or ever even. So... comfortable. But despite all of this, he still thought of Rin from time to time when it came to (Y/n).

Sometimes, in his nightmares, the both of them would mix together. He would pierce Rin's body, and see her surprised expression and bloody face as his hand took away her last heartbeat. But it would be (Y/n)'s voice he heard. It would be the scream he also caused when he healed her arm. That painful scream had drilled into his mind and would never leave him. He just had this weird, and sometimes annoying feeling, or more like instinct, of protection towards this small and frail girl who the world had treated so badly and unfairly. Just like him.

(Y/n)'s eyes glistened as she beamed with joy and thanked him, feeling a buzzing and also unfamiliar feeling inside her body as she, for the first time, felt like she could actually confide in someone.

"You can complain about anything too," she smiled before they both reached their stop: (Y/n)'s apartment.
