After the phone call Carolyn had rushed her way to the hospital
Her mind was racing, Meredith kept crying on the phone. Carolyn parked her car and made her way into the unfamiliar hospital
"Meredith!" Carolyn ran inside the hospital room
"Carolyn!" Meredith cried
"Finally! Can you now stop crying?" Ellis hissed from her spot
"What happened?" Carolyn turned towards Ellis
"She's doing this trial that's supposed to help her but she keeps complaining. It's gonna help herbin the long run hopefully" Ellis sighed and stood up
"Are you taking her home?" Carolyn asked
"No. I'm gonna grab coffee. I have a surgery later on" Ellis didn't even ask if Carolyn wanted coffee
"Carolyn, they hurt me! The shots hurt me!" Meredith cried in Carolyn's arms
"Meredith, I have to give you your meds again. I'm sorry sweetie" The nurse said, followed by the two pokerface nurses. They held Meredith which shocked Carolyn
"Shh, sweetheart. It will be over soon" Carolyn stroke Meredith's hair
"No stop!" She tried to kick but couldn't move. The nurse was holding her too tight which only scared her more
"Shh honey" Carolyn pulled the girl on her lap the second they let go of the little girl "Is it okay now?" Carolyn asked but the little girl didn't respond anymore, she seemed to dissociate
"I'm sorry" The sweet nurse said as she stayed in the room for a bit longer
"How many times does she need these?" Carolyn frowned, she had never seen the girl like that
"3 rounds. Every round includes 4 shots like now" The woman sighed
"Oh my-" Carolyn gasped "What about other patients?"
"None of them are underneath 14. But they all complain about it being very uncomfortable" The nurse sighed
"How much longer is this trial?" Carolyn asked
"She should be done for tonight. Her mother can see if she wants to try another trial but some of them are longer than the three weeks she had done now"
"Oh my-" Carolyn sighed as she cuddled the girl closer in her arms
...
"Ellis!" Carolyn held the woman and walked out of the room
"I have a surgery-" Ellis said as she came to collect her bag
"You can't do this to her! She's in pain, she's traumatized!" Carolyn raised her voice
"I'm trying to cure my daughter" Ellis replied as she put on her jacket
"I get that! But curing isn't gonna work. EDS is a chronic disease and maybe you should focus on making her as comfortable as possible as she's living with this illness" Carolyn softened again
"I can't take care of a disabled kid!" Ellis said and almost regretted what she said. She knew she had said something a good mother wouldn't say
"Then let us help you out, please! I can't see her suffer and we don't mind anyway" Carolyn looked at Ellis with tears in her eyes, someone needed to finally step up for the little girl
"Would you mind?" Ellis quietly asked, for the first time ever she wasn't looking into someone's eyes
"Of course not. But stop getting her into these painful procedures, please. She's traumatized!" Carolyn was fighting for the little Meredith
Carolyn stayed for the night until Meredith had gotten her last injections. She had called her husband and had quickly explained what was going on. He had left the kids home and they had decided to take her home today instead of tomorrow
Christopher entered the room and immediately went to the little girl to hug her
"Hey munchkin, I promise it will be okay. You're coming home with us" He tried but she kept quiet except for a couple of sobs
"Can you carry her?" Carolyn asked her husband
"Of course" He nodded and lifted Meredith into his arms while Carolyn grabbed Meredith's crutches and her bag but the little girl started to whimper
"Shh sweetie, we're going home" Carolyn held the girl's hand as they walked outside
Once they were home Christopher carried Meredith inside and the girl curled up on Carolyn's lap as they sat on the couch
"Meredith, can I check you out really quick?" Christopher asked but the little girl started panicking. She shook her head violently
"Okay. Not today, it's okay honey" Carolyn rubbed Merdith's back softly
"Meredith!" The kids walked in but were careful as they didn't wanna upset her, they felt something was wrong
"Hey guys, why don't you come sit with us" Christopher suggested
"Hi Mer" Amelia smiled and wanted to hug her friend
"Hi" Meredith had a small smile as she looked at her three friends
"We're glad to see you again" Mark smiled
"We missed you a lot" Derek climbed in next to her
"I missed you too" Meredith whispered
"Meredith's gonna stay with us for a while" Carolyn explained
"Really? Can you sleep in my room?" Amelia gasped
"Thanks" Meredith nodded and smiled a bit
Let's watch some tv, then we can go to bed in a bit" Carolyn suggested. Christopher got up to get the tube feeding for Meredith and did what had to be done while Meredith kept clinging onto Carolyn
"It's okay Meredith" Derek grabbed her hand as he noticed how stressed she was
"I'm sorry" Meredith whimpered
"You don't have to be sorry" He held her hand in his while Amelia and Mark started arguing over what movie they'd watch
"Meredith, you have to decide!" Amelia said sternly
"Oh-" Meredith gasped and got quiet
"It's okay honey, you can choose" Carolyn gave her an assuranting smile
"Can we watch Mamma Mia?" The girl asked
"Of course we can" Christopher smiled and turned on the movie
Meredith was watching the movie and by the end of it she even started humming a bit with the music
"Mommy! Look!" Amelia giggled as they watched the movie and they all had to laugh
"You made a perfect choice, Mer" Christopher smiled but the little girl kept quiet
"Okay honey, let's get you to the bathroom first" Carolyn said as the movie finally ended and remembered she'd have to keep a strict schedule to make sure she would have as less accidents as possible
Carolyn lifted the girl and she kept clinching onto her. She noticed Meredith's panties were slightly wet but she didn't mention as she didn't want to make the girl sad. She helped Meredith with a quick shower and dressed her into some comfortable pajamas
"Can you try to walk back, sweetie?" Carolyn asked but Meredith's lower lip started trembling "Oh I'm sorry honey, let me get Christopher really quick" Carolyn said and returned a few minutes later with her husband
"Let's go to bed, honey" Christopher lifted Meredith into his arms and made his way over to Meredith and Amelia's room
"Mer, I got Puppy for you!" Amelia ran after them and handed the stuffed dog to her best friend
Christopher placed her down on the bed and Carolyn quickly helped her to nebulize. Meredith cuddled the stuffed dog close to her chest as she was breathing in the medicine through the plastic mask
"You're doing so good" Carolyn rubbed her back
"Mommy, can Markie and Der sleep with us?" Amelia asked with a huge smile
"Please?" Meredith muttered through the mask
"Of course. I'm gonna help the boys get everything" Christopher nodded and took the boys to their room "Boys, can you sit down for a minute? We need to talk first"
"Oh- Okay dad" Derek nodded and took a seat, closely followed by Mark
"Meredith's gonna live with us from now on. She was in the hospital and it wasn't very fun for her so we agreed that she'd stay here if that's okay for you" Christopher explained
"Of course!" The two boys agreed
"We need to get Meredith adjusted a bit more so mom will stay home a bit to help her which also means you'll be able to spend much more time with mom" Christopher explained
"But dad, we can help Meredith too" Derek smiled, Mark nodding immediately in agreement
"We know, boys. Now let's get the mattresses to the girls' room"
...
"Amy?" Meredith whispered later on as she was laying in the bed
"Mer? Do you need anything?" Derek asked as he woke up by Meredith calling out for help
"I- I- I have to use the bathroom" Meredith whispered
"Oh- Do you want me to get mom?" He asked
"I'll be fine" She whispered
"Wait-" Derek said and turned on the lamp next to Meredith's bed and reached out for her crutches "Mom had put them here in case you'd need them" He handed them to her
Meredith nodded and put an armi underneath her legs to swing them over the bed before she pushed herself onto her feet and heavily leaned onto the crutches to make her way over to the bathroom
"Here you go" Derek said as he led her towards the bathroom, careful with the mattresses that laid on the ground. Once she was finished he helped her back into bed, placed the crutched next to the bed and tucked her in "Night night Mer" He smiled
"Thanks for helping, Derek. Night night" She whispered
