"Ellis, I'm not sure if it's such a good idea to start those medical trials. Maybe Meredith needs some time to adjust first instead of-" Christopher started
"I'm a doctor, my concern is curing my daughter" Ellis frowned
"Of course, I agree. But she's just been through tons of procedures, she hasn't even been home for a week. I think it's not fair to push this into her already" Christopher frowned
"Dr Shepherd, she is my child-" Ellis stated
"And my patient! We love Meredith!" Christopher almost lost his patience
"Well I'll call when she can go home so you can see her. Is she almost ready?" Ellis asked
"I'm not sure. My wife was gonna pack Meredith's stuff" Christopher explained
"I'll wait in the car, tell her to come whenever she's ready, meanwhile I can get some paperwork done" Ellis said and left the house
Christopher watched his kids peeking from around the corner. He gave them a sad smile and made his way towards Amelia's bedroom which she now shared with Meredith
"Hi girls, are you getting ready, Mer" Christopher forced a smile to not concern the little girl
"My mommy's here" She had a sheepily smile on her face
"She is. You're going to the doctors again, maybe they'll find you some new meds" Christopher informed her
"But you're my doctor?" Meredith frowned
"Your mommy wants to help you really bad so she's gonna take you to a new hospital to see if they can help you better than I did" Christopher sat down next to Meredith
"Oh-" Meredith breathed
"Okay honey, your bag is packed. Do you have Puppy?" Carolyn asked
"I do" Meredith nodded
Christopher helped Meredith onto her feet and grabbed her crutches. He tucked Puppy into Meredith's shirt, causing the little girl to giggle
"This way you can carry Puppy while you're walking" Christopher kissed Meredith's forehead
"Okay honey, let's go down together but be careful" Carolyn warned and went downstairs first so she could catch Meredith in case the little girl would lose her balance on the stairs as she only has been practicing for a short while on her crutches
"Let's say bye bye to the other first" Christopher said and watched his kids walking towards them
"When are you coming back? I love having you in my room" Amelia smiled
"Dunno" Meredith shrugged her shoulders "I hope soon"
"Good luck, Mer. Stay tough" Mark smiled and hugged her as well
"I'll miss you. Call us if you are bored" Derek ended with a tight hug
"Goodluck sweetie, I know you will do great. Just ask your mommy to call us if you need something" Christopher kissed Meredith's forehead again
"Let's go outside, Meredith" Carolyn softly smiled and carried Meredith's backpack as the girl slowly made her way outside with the ugly grey crutches, still a bit unsteady
"Mommy!" Meredith smiled as she saw Ellis sitting in the car
Carolyn opened the door and helped Meredith tl get strapped in, laying the crutches down at her feet
"Hi mommy" Meredith smiled
"Are you ready to finally go?" Ellis asked and checked her watch "We're already late" Ellis rolled her eyes
Meredith sighed and nodded her head
"Bye bye monkey. I love you. Ellis, you can always call us, we can go visit Meredith and if she's released we can watch her, it's not a problem at all" Carolyn smiled
"Yeah, that's a deal then" Ellis started the engine and Carolyn closed the door, making sure to stay outside and wave until the car was out of sight

"Mommy, I need to go to the bathroom" Meredith quietly said
"Meredith, I can't stop now" Ellis sighed
"Sorry" Meredith muttered and looked out of the window and waited until her mother parked the car and told her she could get out of the car
"Are you gonna get out or what?" Ellis sighed as Meredith was struggling to open the door
Meredith then slowly got out and grabbed the crutches. With a small sigh she set her first steps and looked down as she heard her mother complaining about the fact that Meredith hadn't closed the door
"Meredith, hurry! We're gonna be late!" Ellis complained as they walked into the hospital
Meredith saw everyone staring and she felt weird
"Mommy, I need to use the bathroom" Meredith quietly repeated
"Meredith, we're almost there" Ellis rolled her eyes
"But mommy, I-" Meredith whined but stopped as she felt hot liquid running down her legs, closely followed by tears escaping her eyes
"Meredith!" Ellis yelled
"I'm sorry!" Meredith looked away
"Hi sweetie, did you have a small accident?" A nurse kneeled down next to Meredith
"I'm sorry, I promise she'll clean this up!" Ellis excused herself
"Oh no worries, we'll take care of this" The nurse said and grabbed a wheelchair "Why don't you sit down in this. Was she here to see a doctor?"
"Yeah. We have an appointment for a medical trial. She was gonna be admitted but of course we'll be late again, won't we Meredith" Ellis asked with a side eye
"I can look up in what room she's expected so I can help her get cleaned, no worries" The young woman smiled at Ellis
"Okay" Ellis nodded and crossed her arms, waiting for the nurse to push the wheelchair Meredith was in

Meredith was scared. She was sitting in a gown in a hospital bed. Her mother had left to get coffee so she was all by herself
"Meredith Grey?" A nurse came in
"Yes" Meredith quietly nodded
"I'm here to insert an IV" the nurse said and walked towards Meredith "Okay this will sting a little" She warned
"Where's my mommy?" Meredith asked as a tear ran down her red cheeks
"I'm sorry honey, I have to do it now" The nurse said and inserted the needle
"Mommy! I want mommy!" Meredith got scared from the needle and started crying
"Hey, you're a big girl. Your mommy will be back in a bit" The nurse spoke up "The doctor will be in here soon to give the first injection" The nurse smiled and left
She hated the needle, it was stinging on top of her already sore body. She knew how they had done it last time, with a butterfly and very gentle in her room on the pediatric ward with Carolyn and Christopher, not in a random white hospital room
Meredith curled up in a ball. Her hips were hurting from this position but she didn't care, her anxiety was out of the roof and she felt alone. She wished the Shepherds were here, they always made her feel somewhat better
She had no idea how much time had passed when her mother walked inside followed by a female doctor
"Hello, Meredith. Let's give you your first injection" The doctor smiled
"Mommy" Meredith whimpered
"Meredith, you're eight years old, you don't need me for this" Ellis said sternly and took a seat
"Here I go" The doctor came closer with the needle in her hand
"Please" Meredith whimpered and desperately tried to reach out for her mother's hand but Ellis didn't give in
The doctor injected the meds and Meredith kept whimpering. The needle scared her out so much, she hated this. She hated being sick
"Okay Meredith, I'll come back later" The doctor put a bandage on the spot and left the room
"Goddamn, Meredith! How dare you cry like that! What must they now think of me?" Ellis snapped, stood up and walked out of the door to go get another coffee
